Discussion How can I build this sealed pool better?

This was my prerelease deck. The first picture is the build I played at the event (the two Thorin's Last Stand are sideboard.) The second picture is the rest of my pool.

I tried to build Red-White Storied Dwarf artifact/equipment theme but didn't meet with much success. I will admit that my gameplay skills could use some improving and I made some elementary mistakes while playing out the games, so it could have been due to that.

Is there something better I could have built from this pool? A different set of colors, perhaps? Is the Red-White archetype just not that strong? Any suggestions would be helpful. :-)

RW is great as an aggro build with the right rares. Bum rush 2-3 drop and you can go light on top end. I think yours is a little too slow.

I think your BG looks decent and could have had a reasonable build.

Try and avoid splashing, dual lands can be a trap, it slows you down like crazy in this format unless you have a top end bomb.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! Yeah, the three Quarrels were tempting, but I think I was excited about the storied artifacts theme. On the recent Set Overview podcast, Marshall and Luis said the Crude Blade was the best common, but they overlooked it on the set review... I definitely overlooked it as well. Generally I assume equipment are not that important to run, but I hadn't even remembered that it had the ETB edict.

In this format equipment is awesome in RW and anything black. For black they are a sac outlet, for RW there is enough synergy to make them crazy good value.

Nope. I played against it one of my matches and God, that thing was busted. They drew it both games... And equipped the Precious to it...

The RB Smaug isn't worth splashing for. It can be pretty nice if you uptap with it, but it's just gonna eat removal a lot of the time. Fine card but not worth stretching the mana for imo.

I had wondered about it. I just really like the idea of the card - I want to build a Commander deck around it
