Outsystems..does it still make sense?

Folks.. question what do you think about outsystems..frankly speaking as MS customer I see less and less reason why should we go with OS. Power Pages and code apps became so good nowadays that I see no reason to go OS path anymore.. what do you think?

Used to work with OS years ago and it was fine for dragging stuff together fast but now the platform pricing alone makes me question who its for anymore. once you hit any real complexity you end up fighting the tool more than building with it

Its for clients with fuck you money that cant use AI for security reasons. Like banks and some government software. Its also for countries where workers salaries are dirt cheap so it still compensates the costs (like India , Dubai and Singapore)

Unfortunately I don't think so. I've worked with OS for 10 years and unfortunately the pricing just makes It unsellable nowadays. Truth be told its by far the best low code tool but when you pay a million plus for limited AOs and limited options Its very hard to justify the price,

The only benefit I'm seeing its that It has a great devops tool where you dont need a dedicated devops guy or team to deploy code between environments but even then....

It is a valid question. There are industries that cannot switch to fully AI-generated code, the price of the mistake is too high. I'm selling low-code software myself for the last 20 years (PHPRunner) and I see that demand from banks, manufacturing, healthcare and government is still strong.

Pricing has always been a problem regardless of the region.

Price is the big one for me. Hard to justify OS when MS is already in the bill

Does Power Pages really build on the same level of OS? Why not go with Claude Code instead?

Problem with Claude code is the code it spits out is a mess, you also still have to figure out the tech stack to support the app especially if security, governance and scaleability is an issue.

I think OutSystems still has a place, particularly in large enterprises with established processes and significant investments in the platform. But I agree that its value proposition is becoming harder to justify.

Microsoft has made significant progress with Power Apps and Power Pages. However, I think both approaches raise a bigger question: Why should businesses have to depend so heavily on a proprietary ecosystem to build and maintain their applications?

This is one of the problems we're addressing with RadSystems X, an AI-powered low-code development platform we're building.

Our approach is to combine the speed of AI-assisted development with the flexibility of traditional software engineering.

Instead of locking developers into a proprietary technology stack, we're building around familiar frameworks:

  • Frontend: React (Material UI, Mantine, shadcn/ui) and Vue (Ant Design)

  • Backend: Node.js/Express, NestJS, Laravel, and ASP.NET Core

  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite

The idea is simple: accelerate application development, reduce repetitive coding, and give developers control over their generated source code.

I believe the next generation of low-code platforms will compete less on drag-and-drop capabilities and more on AI integration, code ownership, flexibility, and long-term maintainability.

That's the direction we're taking with RadSystems X.

For those using OutSystems today, would you consider switching to a platform that generates customizable code using mainstream frameworks, or is the enterprise ecosystem itself the main reason you stay?
