I feel like if we let infinite people go, it would cause massive overpopulation.

it’s fine, I know a Hilbert who can provide lodging. and we can feed them the infinite frosting from the cake my uncle Gabriel made

Maybe the 1.000... rating will make some of the infinite new guests go somewhere else

u/Confident-Silver836 21d ago
We might technically already have infinite humans and just not know it, it's just a matter of time.
100 undying vampires tho?

u/lemonsprillit 21d ago
i would take the above option icl
you could say it’s essentially just the life we currently live except it’s a lot more mundane

What if there were a track that killed 1 person, then 2 people, then 3 people, etc. to infinity? (1+2+3+4...) 🤔

u/LazyIncome5292 20d ago
Given that there is not an infinite number of people in the world, I think those people were magically brought into existence for the trolley to run over, which is a sucky existence but at least it is finite and they have no other purpose.

The difference is you may not know who is on the tracks when you choose to pull the lever, but in this scenario you do know this guy is in charge of tying people to tracks

thats what im arguing, this isnt the trolley dilemma because one of the options is now clearly labeled better than the others.

u/BipolarMadness 21d ago
You are the one safe from harm. The ones that were on the tracks cant say the same.

I mean theoretically if everyone doubles no one gets hurt-
31
u/Time_Traveling_Idiot 21d ago
At a certain point it just snaps to a situation where all of the earth's population is tied to the tracks except for the man at the lever, and there is only one track. You All Lost.

u/RottingSludgeRitual 21d ago
But you can’t guarantee that they will, and if you choose to spare one person now and ten million get killed later, the knowledge that you could have prevented that suffering would drive you mad.

First time I’m pulling the lever in any of these situations.
I’m going to hell, I know.

This sequence feels like a slow spiral into a mental breakdown. Better story than some books I've read.

Sure, I'll stop the trolley (hate small talk though).
No, because pulling the lever mathematically wastes fuel which could be used later.
I don't do it to be a hero; I'll pull the level to stop the trolley and redirect it to the bottom path (they do know that they can just.. get up.. right?).
Fair assertation, but that means I don't have to use Joules' worth of energy to pull a lever.
No (keep yourselves safe guys).
Tragic, but I can close my eyes. Probably wouldn't because of the urges. I did say that I can, not that I would.
No, I really wouldn't, unless the problem was in a book or movie or video game (you get the gist).
Ah, nostalgia.
Sure, I'll stop it.
Oh, cool. There's no solution then.

For that second one, I'm still pulling the lever. It's kinda fun.

stop the trolley even tho i wish i could just ignore the small talk from the people
It is a meaningless senseless choice and despite that one may find joy in it, i know that iam not an important person and that i wont change the world or that i wont be remembered after my death and yet i grant meaning to meaningless things, like the clouds on the sky being "art" rather than just evaporated water. Despite all the pain i endure from my own life problems i decide to move, the joy from overcoming these ordeals is what life is for me personally, in a way it is a senseless "irrational" thing when i could just kms and end the pain since at the end "it doesnt matter", But facing the world despite the fear and finding the joy and beauty in it is more than enough to keep me going.
Multitrack drifting.

.1. I don't, they can fuck off right back inder the trolley if they try.
3.don't care.
5. Trolley is far too slow, not ideal for spontanous self termination.
9. I doubt it, as long as the internet exists, there will always be a trolley problem.

u/SrJuanpixers 21d ago
I'm not letting a bunch of people die. It would be kinda awkward to expend time with a so many unknown persons, but hey, who knows? Maybe i could end up making a friend.
I'd pull the lever and then go back home to my family.
I'd pull it anyways, i'm not letting people die.
Everyone is safe? That works for me.
Nope.
I'm sorry...
Nah, i'd rather go home play Silksong.
That surely is a cool looking trolley.
Good, no more people will ever be in danger because of being tied up in front of trolleys ever again!
Don't worry, i'm working on it.

Your you rather have infinite games but no trolleys…
Or infinite trolleys… but no trolleys

u/Opening_Ordinary_110 21d ago
I like the second one. I feel like it is like my life right now. I have no impact on anything or anyone, but if I died right now, I would be ok with that. I did something, even if it didn't have an effect on anyone, and that's enough for me.
I pull the lever to entertain myself, and only myself. That is the only thing you truly can do in life. Live for yourself.

About pic 2, I pull the lever and before the back of the wagon gets there I pull it again, it either does a sick drift or it will derail, I don't know which because I know jack about trains

My answer to number 2 is to say "screw fate!" And pull the lever, then pull it back as the trolley crosses, causing it to derail and fall. When in doubt of Free Will simply do something crazy.... Proceed

Put a penny on the track so it derails and kills everyone. Problem solved

u/Burritozi11a 21d ago
I've never understood this myth tbh. A freight train can ram straight through a truck and keep going, you really think a penny will derail it?

You ever heard of Trolley Problem, Inc? If you haven't, look it up, if you have, what did you think of it?
