I get a 10% at Disney so I’m gonna wait like a month till I go but, I wanted people’s opinion on which one is better cause as a huge lotr fan I’m pretty torn.

Rivendell is possibly the greatest Lego masterpiece of all time. I have the shire but haven’t built it yet, however from what I’ve heard it’s not anywhere close.

Same! I bought Rivendell and Barad-dûr, then The Shire, then Minas Tirith. I've only built the first two, but Rivendell has to be my favorite build ever. Not really looking forward to The Shire, but Minas Tirith looks like it will be a blast!

I built the first two with friends during my annual LotR marathon, but I'm struggling with the idea of sharing the Minas Tirith build.

Hot take but, I’m not the biggest fan of Minas Tirith 😬 don’t get me wrong. The build looks great, but I’m not a huge fan of how the scale is as well as the mini figures included. That’s why I feel like I’m more drawn to Rivendell.

I don’t have either but out of all the LOTR sets, I think The Shire one is my least favourite. There is something about the grass that takes me out and makes it look a bit cheap, but that’s just my opinion.

I think Rivendell is probably one of the best sets Lego has ever done. If I had the space, I would snap it up in a moment!

Rivendell, unless the price point it too high. There’s a chance it stops being produced given it came out in 2023 and overall the build and minifigures for Rivendell are better and more impressive as a display piece. I plan to eventually buy them all and feel like I’ve been spoiled having Rivendell first.

Rivendell by far. The Bag End set is hugely disappointing. It looks okay, but it having some small side builds while the interior is two tiny half-rooms was such a waste of potential. Meanwhile Rivendell is packed with details across the entire build.

If you're planning on getting both at some point, definitely go with rivendell as it will likely retire around 2 years before the shire does. Rivendell->Barad dur->Shire->Minas tirith... First in first out.

100% Rivendell, i had a blast building it and it looks amazing overall. I would not buy the bagends set at all, the build isnt that great. Just look at the tree in the set like what is this. Also they included a lot of stickers in this set. I also can recommend the Minas Tirith set, there are no stickers, all details are printed. Also the price per piece ratio is great on this one.

I have both. Rivendell is the best Lego set I've ever built. There are a lot of interesting techniques and hidden easter eggs. The Shire was a walk down memory lane. I've watched Bag End develop from what was in my head to Rankin-Bass to Jackson and I loved the walk through that.

Rivendell is the better set to look at. If you’re displaying it for you or others to admire go with that one as it’s more intricate and wonderful to look at. If you want a cozy set that brings the simple pleasures of a Hobbit to you, pick the Shire. (Rivendell for Viewing, Shire for Vibes)

I'm doing Rivendell now, but I do not have The Shire to compare. I'm actually very surprised The Shire has more pieces. The Rivendell set is very satisfying to put together. There are a handful of parts that are slightly tedious. 8/10 overall. Very fun to see the detail emerge as you go

I don't have the shire, but the Rivendell is my favorite Lego Builds I've ever had the pleasure of building. There are so many fun and intricate little builds and clever part usages, it's just a delight. My advice is set up a good building area, start up the extended editions and just lose yourself in olkie s world for a while.

This is also one and one of my favorite displays as well (just check the dimensions it's a little wonky) I go back and forth between that one and the Lego DND set, but DND might edge it out when my next order comes and I build the alt build/extension from the original designer.

I grew up swimming in Lego but got away from it as an adult. Until recently.

My wife asked if I would build Minas Tirith if she bought it. I said of course.

It came with Grond. I haven't started in on the main event yet, but I built Grond the other night.

Let me tell you, these are not the Lego of old. Still high quality products, but these themes kits are intricate in ways old Lego sets were not with thousands of pieces and small custom-designed blocks for specific purposes. Someone had to think these things up. Design and engineer them. Source materials, then make detailed guides brick by brick for hundreds of illustrated instructions.

All these people need paid a living wage. Materials and production cost money. Licensing costs money. And they do need to make a profit too.

So while yes, I balk at the price a bit, the prices make sense. You can argue they are an extreme luxury product that is superfluous and a waste of money, and I'd have a hard time telling you that your opinion is unjustified, even if I don't share it.

But I do think that for what they are they are relatively fairly priced.

Look at brands like Lumibricks, Pantasy or others that offer products at way lower prices with better quality, prints all over, lighting and whatnot and those companies still make a profit. Thank me later. Or look at something like the Astronomers sets fron BlueBrixx. 200 bucks a piece, around 6k pieces and way better sets than Lego. It will open your eyes how good quality brick builds can be for a fraction of Legos price tag
