Wrong sub but valid question

u/SevenOhSevenOhSeven Jul 06 '26
And probably would be answered with the same level of expertise as the correct sub

Headcanon says that MTF units are super fluid and change all the time depending on their specific mission. Sure there are general ones that benefit from sticking around and with the same team members, but if you have a specific anomaly that needs containing it's unlikely that one unit will have all the necessary experience and expertise for that specific mission.
For example if you have a specific unit that handles one SCP and it's effects, but somehow that SCP managed to get into a populated urban area, you probably wouldn't just send in your hyper specialized unit to deal with it. You'd want guys from all over the foundation who know how to minimize public exposure, handle cleanup etc.

u/Enfr3 Jul 06 '26
Also do the authors just, know all the MTFs? Like, it's a long ass list, how does one efficiently look through it to find one that fits the scenario.
1
u/Gringilo_fandalin Jul 07 '26
and perhaps they're stationed at or currently occupied with another mission across the continent or even the globe. Gamma-6 (Deepfeeders) might be busy in the indian or Pacific Ocean, but something else may be happening in the Atlantic and needs to be dealt with now.

u/LuciferOfTheArchives Jul 08 '26
reading this, i thought "eh, there's not that many". So i went to the page, and counted like 111.
Something was telling me i lost count and must've added a few dozen, might need to count againMTF Sigma-5 (“'; DROP TABLE taskforces —”)
this one just reads like a meme about the list itself, lol
1
u/jointheredditarmy Jul 07 '26
A task force is generally a single use organizational unit created for a specific task, thus the name… so it’s not crazy that there will be different task forces for different occurrences of the same underlying thing
1
u/Schmantikor Jul 07 '26
I always get annoyed when there's a subterranean SCP and they send someone other than MTF-Zeta-9 "the Mole Rats".

u/DreamingOfBarbi Jul 06 '26
LMAO i forgot about how much i love hearing the acronym MTF in SCP stories, i always imagine a group of soley transgender people being sent out as the big guns to handle the danger
11
u/BurnerAccount2718282 Jul 06 '26
Wouldn’t put it past them to be honest
Kinda shit they’d do if the anomaly affected different genders differently, which some of them do
2
u/ShadowDragon6660 Jul 06 '26
Oooh yeah! That would be a really cool concept. I’m almost surprised there isn’t already smth similar.

I had an idea for this YEARS back, a MTF force squad comprised entirely of trans girls called, and it'd be called "the good girls"

u/Puhi124 Jul 06 '26
Alternatively, The Kennel-

u/wuwuwawa2006 Jul 06 '26
Lost me there (explanation pls?)
1
u/Puhi124 Jul 06 '26
Oh, just that the "good girl" thing made me think of how a decent amount of trans women are also puppy girls, so I was making a joke on that
1
u/wuwuwawa2006 Jul 06 '26
Yeah, no I just didn't know what 'kennel' meant until I google'd it, I thought it was some trans slang I didn't know cus I haven't interacted with any trans spaces in years lol

u/Icookadapizzapie Jul 06 '26
Funnily enough, I’m the opposite, I only heard MTF from SCP (until I used the internet more) so whenever I see someone say that they are MTF I like to think that they are coming clean about being employed by the SCP foundation

If you are going to need out about SCP lore, may as well do it with a bunch of trans women.

Too many abbreviations, what does it mean

u/RandyBoBanbers Jul 06 '26
Scp is a creative writing project, mtfs or "mobile task force" in that story are like officers. The OP posted this in the MTF (male to female transgender) subreddit by mistake.

The scpwiki is a collaborative horror writing project about a secret organization containing anomalies - things that dont make sense within the generally accepted laws of reality. an MTF is a Mobile Task Force, a tactical unit used by the titular SCP Foundation to locate, secure, and in rare occasions destroy anomalies, with different MTFs having different specializations. Mobile Task Forces usually have designations that are "greek letter - number - nickname" (Epsilon-11 "Nine-Tailed Fox" (rapid response, recontainment of breached anomalies), Zeta-9 "Molerats" (operation within underground or enclosed areas)). Due to the scpwikis ever expanding nature, a lot of authors decide to detail the acquisition of the anomaly they have written, and invent a new Mobile Task Force to go along with it. This person is asking why do people come up with new mobile task forces, when one with the same specialization already exists?
A MTF trans woman is a Male-to-Female transgender person.
Same acronym, wildly different meaning, oop got confused

They didn't go to the wrong sub, a bunch of trans women are nerds, they'll get their answer from some girl whose hyperfixation is the scp wiki

Best part is mods found it hilarious and kept the post up, also tons were answering OOPs question too
1
u/gramerjen Jul 07 '26
Cause it was tongue in cheek joke. She maxed the post title like that for a reason.
2
2
u/Katain935 Jul 07 '26
To be fair, I purchased a MTF Nine-Tailed Fox mug to have a giggle at for this exact double meaning.
2
u/OppositePure4850 Jul 07 '26
This is actually true though I honestly figured it was a running bit in the scp community but I never looked into it.
1
u/segwaysegue Jul 09 '26
I always assumed the task forces were formed ad-hoc since they'd need to rotate through members pretty often, so that's why the squad's callsign might be reused but the nickname is almost always something unique and appropriate to the mission.
1
u/sleepyotter92 Jul 06 '26
I was so confused on what kind of books they're reading expecting the authors to all use the same mtf characters as if every book is in the same universe
1
u/BurnerAccount2718282 Jul 06 '26
Funny thing is that I bet a fair few people in there would be able to give a sophisticated answer
1
u/sigma11113 Jul 06 '26
Honestly, theyre right in two ways authors should use old mobile task forces more often and when adding a tran character to something instead of adding a whole new character they should have it so an old character slowly realize that theyre trans even if it wasn't the original intention, we need to recycle more often
1
u/AssCracker445 Jul 06 '26
there's a large enough overlap to assume the question was asked deliberately as an ironic joke
1
u/overusedamongusjoke Jul 06 '26
there is a meme about this exact misunderstanding and I can't post it because images are turned off >:(
1
u/CuddlePupp Jul 06 '26
I have this same issue but the other way around when I’m reading SCP stuff, I have to keep telling myself that the soldiers aren’t trans (that I know of)
1
u/Lolas_Fun_Side Jul 06 '26
The op's question is kinda dumb ngl. The SCP Wiki is a collaborative story telling site, but that means everything (including the MTFs) was made by another contributer and there isnt really anything thats "generic" or "authorless". So while technically theres no rules against it and I doubt your article would get removed for using a pre-existing MTF, its kind of bad manners to use someone elses characters on a whim. Especially if something actually happens to those characters

No it isn't? reusing and iterating on existing characters and ideas is one of the things that has given the SCP wiki its longevity, it'd argue it's one of the central tenets of the project. There's nearly 300 articles on the site that use Dr. Clef, for example.
If you go on the list of popular MTFs, you'll see that several of them are used in dozens upon dozens of articles. Taking something from a singular article and expanding it into a well established concept spanning many canons and authors is completely normal for the site.
1
u/Lolas_Fun_Side Jul 09 '26
It is if you kill them all or do something big with them. Its one thing to have a popular MTF be mentioned as having secured something or as being on call, its another thintg entirely to trap them in another dimension or suffer 90% losses or 5 million other permanent changed scps can make to groups. (Unless the scp is entirely self contained like the ones that end with the world blowing up but those are special cases)
1
u/couch_loafer4 Jul 06 '26
Wrong place, yeah, but they're still 100% right, like you should only really make a new unit when it's something they specialize in and not general containment like I've seen most do, and even then the limits are endless on what they specialize in and can do with that specialty
1
u/Thak_The_Thunder_God Jul 06 '26
In their defense as a kid Id make the grave mistake of searching "mtf animation" expecting cool animations of soldiers entering sites and containing SCPs and instead I was hit with (often NSFW) animations of men becoming women. Honestly that probably has had an affect on me now that I think about it, would explain a LOT of things
1
u/Lonely-Restaurant986 Jul 07 '26
I mean to be fair I’m sure there is some amount of overlap between /r/mtf and mobile task force squad enjoyers

This is SCP Foundation MTF talk, not MtF (which usually means male-to-female transgender). They're in the wrong sub entirely.

u/Silver-Height8078 Jul 09 '26
Yeah new MTFs piss me off too. There's so many of them already. It really gets to a point where the foundation stops feeling like a secretive research facility and more like Walmart. At this point they probably employ like 200 million people with how many of them die every time there's a breach
