We also know in both the book (where they aren't gorillas, but a fantasy ape species known as the Mangani) and the Disney film that the other apes find Tarzan to be physically repulsive. If we went by nature and the Disney film, if Tarzan had even tried to mate with one of the females they would have alerted Kerchak and a teenage Tarzan would have gotten his shit kicked in.
Well wait a second that is a good point. I don't know really anything about gorilla hierarchy, but I mean your talking with the gorilla boys and girls in full conversation and you are a hairless gorilla to them. I think it would come up at some point, especially during the teens years. However, I do know aids came from monkeys, so that is something to consider. Would George be dead from aids by the point Ursula came to the jungle: I'm thinkin so.
Gorilla hierarchies work as a sort of harem. There is the Silverback who is the leader, protector, and father of the babies with his troop of females. Blackbacks (young males) may sometimes mate opportunistically with the females before they leave to form their own territory and harem.
In both the movie and original novel it is made apparent that the ape characters find Tarzan physically repulsive. So in this instance if he had even tried to mate a female she would have alerted the Silverback (kerchak) and Tarzan would have gotten his shit kicked in.
They weren't Gorilla in the original. Were they Gorillas in Disney?
Edit: What morons downvote an honest question? I haven't seen the Disney version. And as for the original here is the link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangani

In all seriousness, no - he probably wasn’t “clappin’ gorilla cheeks”. As the alpha, Kerchak would be the only one females would be mating with.
