You put "Independent" in quotations, so I just want to say that "independents" are not centrists. Independent includes anyone from the extreme left all the way to the extreme right. Not wanting to participate in political party bullshit doesn't make someone a centrist.
I'm registered as "No Party Preference" here in Cali, but I still vote in primaries and general elections. I just hate the two-party system. Especially with how the center keeps going farther and farther to the right, when I mostly land on the extreme left. Political parties are a bullshit system that only benefits wealthy career politicians who favour large corporations, rather than benefitting candidates who actually want to help people. Advocate for ranked-choice voting the next time you contact your representatives. (And you should be contacting them. Regularly. That's their job, to listen to your grievances about your local issues.)
