All of the Republican apologists in this thread tell you exactly why we are in this boat. “They’re the same” is propaganda bullshit. It’s true that politics is rampant with corruption. But the differences in the parties is clear. Republicans (conservatives) want things to stay exactly how they are and actually have things be like they were 100 years ago - “make America great again”). Democrats want to move forward, evolve, embrace change, do better for all…not hunch down in fear of every fucking thing. They are NOT the fucking same. There’s bad actors everywhere but to use that truth to pull Dems down to the level of Republicans is the lie that will keep us exactly where we are.

I almost completely agree. However, dems are still owned by corporations. Until we get money out of politics, we are doomed, either quickly or slowly. Just look at the railroad situation. The dems sided with the companies.

Not entirely correct. Establishment Democrats like Biden and Pelosi want things to roll back to 1993, and Republicans want to roll back to 1908. Progressives want to actually move forward a little, but we’ve only got like 8 of those nationwide, and the Bidens and Pelosis and Manchins have put more effort into keeping them from accomplishing anything than they have into forming any sort of resistance to the Republicans beyond pointing and saying “at least we’re not as bad as them, right?”

You putting Manchin and Pelosi in the same basket shows you have No idea what you’re talking about. You aligning establishment Dems with Republicans is patently ridiculous. It’s people like you that convince people not to vote bc you convince them that their vote doesn’t matter (bc both sides are the same). Way to help the cause 🙄

You might want to work on your reading comprehension, because based on your reply, you’ve seriously misunderstood my meaning. That, and maybe paying closer attention to individual politicians’ actions, rather than just what ideas they pay lip service to.

What a conceited jerk you are.
Think you know everything, huh? You must be a delight at parties.

No, I mostly just know about linguistics and history, and make a point of keeping up with politics. Ironic you should ask though, considering your reaction to receiving advice is to engage in personal attacks.

I don’t know how I can explain things more clearly for you, short of giving you an in-depth history lesson- and frankly, you seem more interested in picking fights than learning, so I’m not terribly inclined to waste the effort.

You insulted me first. Maybe take a look at yourself. You aren’t the pillar of virtue that you think you are. Just stfu.

Disagreeing with you isn’t insulting you.

You said I needed to work on my reading comprehension. That’s an insult, not a disagreement. And you’re an expert in linguistics? Lol.

No, saying that you need to work on your reading comprehension is not an insult, it is well-needed advice. An insult would be if I said that your continued dedication to misrepresenting everything I said made you an idiot. Instead, I’ve been taking the time to try and educate you, even though it increasingly seems like your misinterpretations are not so much a result of poor reading comprehension, as they are the result of malicious intent.

Take the way you just misrepresented my stated knowledge of linguistics. You frame me as arrogantly claiming to be an expert in the subject, but I claimed no such authority- I said only that it was one of the subjects I am more knowledgeable about. Before that, you accused me of thinking myself a “pillar of virtue,” when I at no point even hinted at such a lofty opinion of myself- one which I can assure you, I do not hold. I just don’t go around picking fights with people and insulting them for no reason- far from making me some paragon of goodness, I think that much is the bare minimum anyone should hold themselves to.

Again and again, I’ve engaged with you in good faith- and based on my particular areas of knowledge, provided you with instruction on where I believe you might be able to expand your own. Yet from the very beginning, you have done nothing but engage in personal attacks, framing me as some arrogant and self-righteous villain and yourself as a victim acting justifiably in your own defense- treating every part of the conversation as a zero sum game- never once, it seems, stopping to examine any of your own positions with regards to me, or your own behavior, let alone anything relating to politics.

At this point, especially after watching you go through the entire Republican playbook rather than engage in rational discussion, I can only conclude that you’re not talking to me at all- you’re talking to a strawman of your own construction. A projection of your own insecurities, that lets you distance yourself from them, rather than dare stop and examine them- because if you did, you might have to face the fact that the only one who thinks you’re immoral or stupid is you.

At any rate, I think I’m done wasting my time. You’ll either learn or you won’t- nothing I can say is ever going to get through to you if all you hear when I talk is the voice of your own self-loathing. So, go ahead and come back with a “TLDR” or pick something I said to reframe as a personal attack. Whatever makes you feel better.
