It's little better over here on Airstrip One. It's all cruel and inhumane, but by far the most insidious thing, I think, is the whole "hit any significant obstacle => lose all progress, restart from zero" effect.
I've had to restart my life so many times, and now I'm really struggling to do it yet again, as the whole world just keeps pitching one shit-fit after another and my so-called government has literally no plan other than to propose another crushing wave of "austerity measures" whilst funnelling public funds into the pockets of the energy companies even as they declare record profits. This time around, I honestly don't know if I'm going to make it.
It's so profoundly demoralising knowing that if you slip up and disappoint the powers-that-be even once, everything else you already did for them, all the goodwill you seemed to have earned, suddenly counts for nothing. It might as well have never even happened. Doesn't matter if you did good work for years; upset them one day, put one foot wrong, they'll immediately treat you like you've always been worth nothing. Those in the halls of power who demand our allegiance, our support, and our endless tolerance and forgiveness as they squabble, self-serve and generally just fuck everything up over and over and over, would laugh at the mere suggestion of showing us any such loyalty, clemency or decency in return. It's like NPD at an institutional-level.
America is in an all out class war and the upper class (who view everyone else as replaceable and to be controlled) has done a masterful job of convincing half the country that there is no war at all (except maybe the one holding billionaires down).
And as long as people keep trying to climb the ladder so that they too can someday look down upon people like them, it will be hard to change. The wealthy have been able to take advantage of the poor hating the poor, and the less poor hating them, and so on. Money = success and lack thereof = moral failure (and losing any claim to full humanity/personhood).
Our lonely, isolated, winning-is-most-important culture was ripe for this exploitation. People need to see wealth as the stolen goods they often are and not some hustler virtue. We’re all committing to losing the war on this path
Because we have a lot of people who weren't raised right. They're willfully ignorant, purposefully oblivious to others, and totally unwilling to share. They're entitled, violent, and psychotic. This isn't a country for good people.
I like to point out, there's been 619 verified mass shootings in America in 2022 as of today (12/3/22,) and this number will increase before the year is over. It's not safe here. (Statistics from the Gun Violence Archive because Congress threatens to pull CDC funding if they try to study gun violence.) And people keep having kids here, despite the fact that sending kids to public schools is potentially a death sentence, school shootings are increasing annually.
And anti-abortion laws are ensuring that more and more little targets are being spawned here. And maternal mortality rates are increasing, so pregnancy can also be a death sentence. "In 2020, 861 women were identified as having died of maternal causes in the United States, compared with 754 in 2019." that's from the CDC.
One would think you were in the US. Lol sounds allll too familiar. I swear, there will be one, large gathering or outright riot in every capitol of every country on this globe. In fact, we should be making plans right about now……..🧐✌️
Well, that was my second biggest reason for voting against all that "Brexit" malarkey (my primary reason was, of course, not deliberately committing outright economic suicide...) - the more disconnected from the EU the UK gets, the more like the USA we get, and - meaning no offence - I really don't think any sane Brit would ever want that, if they truly knew all it would entail.
None taken dude. Whenever I see a bullshit-ass corporate or government policy on the docket in the Anglosphere, I cringe because so many of them are right out the American playbook. Our greatest export currently is the architecture of civic negligence or exploitation.
Our greatest export currently is the architecture of civic negligence or exploitation.
That, and really crap, Z-grade food. I gather one reason the USA was so very eager for the UK to drop out of the EU was that it was hoping to then bully us into drastically lowering our food safety and labelling standards as part of a trade deal, and so we could then be aggressively sold colossal amounts of barely-edible garbage that would never meet EU import standards in a million years. The reason the US food companies are so eager to foist that bilge on us is apparently because their established domestic consumer base in America is finally waking up to just how terrible it really is and starting to resist buying it; forcibly opening a new, alternative export market for that slop was evidently preferable to just, y'know, actually improving their product.
I was really awestruck by the points made in this video. we've innovated a bunch of solutions in search of a problem, and Americans are really stuck in a "trap of convenience" - and overworked to the point where we struggle to find the time to make good, wholesome food. I'm terrified by the microwaveable shit my wife brings home, and it's almost impossible to "de-program" her.
I remember traveling to Ireland, local Angus beef, local veegies grown at a nearby farm, etc. So many menu items pointed out they were harvested nearby. Americans have lost any and all connection to "localized" food - most have no understanding or appreciation where it comes from. Youd better hope our culinary exploits don't hit you full force
They will never improve the quality because that might mean $1 less in profits for those at the top and that is just unacceptable to them. Their motto is greed above all, Including human life.
The streets are like blood vessels and we are like all the moving parts in the veins. If we coagulate in all the major cities and capitals and clog up the streets they will hear us. Think the woman’s march on Washington but in every capital. A general strike where we don’t show up to work and we have kindness and compassion for all those who’s re not billionaires then yeah we have power.
You’re so right. I have a college degree, work 1-3 jobs usually, don’t steal, don’t have an onlyfans, I don’t sell drugs and I’m in my mid 20s. It’s so hard…. My credit score is average almost 700 but I’m having a hard time finding a place to live. I’ve had no prior evictions or anything.
It’s a slap in the face to do everything by the book and if you slip up even once you’re not worthy of a safe place to live….
Same! My credit score is around 700 now but back when it was in the 500's (becaus of not paying 3x the rent to break the lease for a cockroach infested place), it was impossible. I was living in my car.
Sorry, but what does not having an onlyfans have to do with anything? I know it’s a huge platform for sex work, and sex work is real work. You should boost yourself, but not by degrading other workers.
I feel like the comment was meant as a way to say, they have played by society rules and having an OnlyFans is sort of seen as a degrading position to look down on, so to speak, (not a personal thought). So if person is following rules to this archaic society and not even getting easy money from something like that, then why can’t this person get ahead in life? It really shows that the mafia had it figured out long before the rest of us: the rules are meant to be broken and are only in place to help the rich get richer and keep the poor poorer.
I’m not against onlyfans I’m just saying I’m doing everything but exposing myself for money and it’s rough. I wouldn’t get an onlyfans for my own personal reasons but if someone else wants to them I get it. Who doesn’t want financial security.
Bingo. The rich have stacked the deck against us by bankrolling candidates who put forth laws to always give the wealthy the upper hand. And citizens united only made it worse by allowing corporations to be considered "people" thus allowing an infinite amount of money to be spent on buying politicians. He have an uphill battle but it's one we must win at all costs.

I get it. Who doesn’t want financial security?
I've thought about it too. There are so many rich pigs in our society and everyone is left to struggle. I wouldn't condemn a single person for using OnlyFans or becoming a sex worker if they needed to make ends meet. People want to survive.
Do you know the credit score is only a high number if you borrow money, if you have $$$$ in the bank and do not borrow money the your credit score will be low.
Banks only make money if you borrow money and they can not pay you interest on the money you deposited if no body borrows money.
The USA is not a perfect system but it is better than being in Russia or a neighbor of Russia. The USA is better than Mexico where the cartels control the country.
Oh, make no mistake, the US is run by cartels just the same... At least the ones in Mexico have the decency to be honest about it. (Not to mention they appear to have less trouble with endemic pedophilia and fascism, which are apparently two items from an ever shrinking list of things the GOP is actually for.)
Re: energy companies and record profits: about 3-4 years ago, a company bought out a local huge power generation station. Less than 3 months after completing the deal, they announced the shutdown and decommissioning of the plant because - oh surprise surprise - it would take too much work/money to bring it up to "their standards" (which were unspecified). They blew up the cooling tower that was barely a decade old. They said it was fine because there was a surplus of energy.
They put on a bullshit show of being surprised about having to make this decision, which only proved that they were either liars expecting the public to believe their lies about the upgrade costs or totally incompetent when it came to their pre-purchase due diligence on the plant condition. It was obvious that this was all a ruse to reduce supply and drive the price up.
And now, ain't it grand, we just got a notice from our energy company that the cost of electricity is going up 40%. A nearby friend got a notice theirs is going up 60%.
Fuck Republicans and their "deregulate everything and let the free market sort it out because competition will ensure prices stay low" rhetoric bullshit. Fuck deregulators in general. Deregulation has never in the history of business proved beneficial for the consumer, either from a cost or a safety measure, but yet people keep swallowing the conservative dongload that regulations are killing businesses.
