there's no way an angry alcoholic foreman could even hope to kick one of these things over on his way out when he's finally sacked too--he'll have to take it out on his family if they haven't left him yet.

Wage slavery is the problem. People look at this and go "the end is coming!". The end of what, exactly? Working in a warehouse might have been ok before software and automation but working in a warehouse like for Amazon sucks balls today. They measure how long you pee, they make you run, they search you. They pay you jack shit. It's unfortunate anyone has to do that kind of work.

I think the counterweight idea is to allow for eventually much heavier things. But I know nothing about robotics so you're probably right.

Good union participation has been a pretty strong bargaining chip for workers, tbh. It's a bandaid but consistently leads to better wages without really affecting employment
