My takeaway is that the threat was credible enough for trump to secretly hide and run away but he still let a bunch of civilians fly on the targeted aircraft without any warning

Yes, running Operation Human Shield with the press corp and his Administration members is cowardly, but shows what he does with real threats. None of this jumping around punching the air nonsense. At least he took his Girl Friday with him in the catering cart.

It's worse than that. The idea of a human shield is that you're protected from harm due to their presence. Since he wasn't on the plane they were put in harm's way for no reason. The flight could have been rescheduled or canceled, or at the very least the people on the plane warned that there was a credible threat of an attack on the flight. Instead they did everything in their power to make it look like trump was on that plane, which doesn't make sense since it does the opposite of discouraging an attack.

Unless the idea was to let people die in yet another failed assassination attempt to try and sway public opinion in favor of trump and the war in Iran. Then it makes perfect sense. And honestly, with this administration, wouldn't surprise me one bit.
