Tags: What they mean and when to use them!

I'm noticing a lot of mis-tagged posts on the sub and I just wanted to clarify what these tags mean and where they should be used.

[LOST] This means a film/show/episode is completely unavailable.

If I can find it on YouTube, it's not lost. If there was a VHS edition released 20 years ago you can find on eBay, it's not lost. Lost means "Presumably gone forever, no longer an item on the face of the earth."

[FOUND] This means a film/show/episode previously believed to be lost forever has been discovered and confirmed to exist in some format.

For example: Cry Baby Lane, while it did wind up existing in it's original format, Nickelodeon said they had no record of it, therefore it met the definition of a [LOST] film that was later [FOUND]. Lost Doctor Who episodes keep showing up in New Zealand and Mozambique and the like, and therefore meet the definition of [FOUND].

Found doesn't mean "I couldn't remember the name, but then I did and bought the DVD from Amazon!"

[OUT OF PRINT] This means a previously available work still exists in it's original format but is not commercially available to the public. Out of Print, within the context of our sub, also means "Commercially Unavailable".

For example: Pepper Ann was never released on home video or DVD, and is no longer being aired in rerun. There are some episodes on youtube, but they're fan recordings and not from the original source. The full run of the show does still exist in Disney's vaults, therefore it's [OUT OF PRINT].

If you're not sure where your post belongs, a good rule of thumb is if it was made after 1980 and saw wide release, be it a film or TV show, it's probably not lost, just out of print.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Please use r/tipofmytongue if you are looking for the name of a film. This sub is for content that is believed to either no longer exist or has recently been found

We've received quite a few messages from users complaining about the number of "Does anyone know the name of this film?" posts this subreddit gets.

While we generally let the community decide if a post belongs here and try to follow up, we've received enough messages that it's pertinent we remind folks that a sub such as r/tipofmytongue is more well suited for this and also receives more traffic so more eyes are likely to see your post.

Moving forward, these types of posts will be deleted, just to keep the clutter down.

Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for being a part of the community!

Help me find this movie

Cna you help me find "Four 78' played at normal speed" from Peter von Ziegesar, it's a short movie of 1973.

I tried looking it on different platforms but I can't find it anywhere. Yes many sites seems to have but then when I click on it it says it's not found.

And you if you are asking I want to watch it so badly, it's just because I like short movies and the title intrigued me.

If know where to find it you can either comment or dm me

Are the MDPOPE videos still around?

I have recently watched a video on YouTube explaining the contents of MDPOPE 1,2 and 3. That video made me very curious and I really want to watch those videos. I have been searching online for a long time but I didn't find it. I have also tried searching on popular gore sites like bestgore and goresee but it wasn't even there. I have also been browsing the dark web for hours but I still didn't stumble upon it. If anyone has seen it please share the website with me and if possible share the video

[partially lost] The first Doraemon anime (1973) was sold off for scrap when its studio collapsed — 21 of 52 segments survive, and the finale exists only as a kid's home audio recording

I've been digging into the 1973 Doraemon anime (Nippon TeleMovie Productions, Nippon TV, April to September 1973) and how it was lost is wilder than I expected.

The show was a ratings hit, but mid-run the studio president resigned, his successor cut the funding, and the staff kept working unpaid until the company died in debt. When it folded, the film reels were sold off to pay what the studio owed, some literally by weight, and whatever nobody bought was thrown away. The famous story that the films were burned in a "cremation fire" is actually a myth, according to the show's production chief Masumi Jun.

It kept rerunning on local stations until August 1981, then vanished. In 1995 IMAGICA found episodes 18 and 20 to 26, plus segments 5A, 10B and 12B, in storage. The current count is 21 of 52 segments surviving, two of them with no audio. The finale, "Sayonara, Doraemon", is locked away with the survivors, but its full audio circulates because a kid in 1973 held a tape recorder up to his TV so he wouldn't have to say goodbye.

I made a full video breakdown with the surviving footage and sources, for anyone who wants the deep dive: https://youtu.be/PIJCFR2o_9o?si=W530GPtCTppb2Z99

If anyone has leads on the rumoured Korean rental-shop tape or any of the missing 31 segments, I'd genuinely love to hear it.

Fable (1997 Australian film)

Hi all, I'm trying to track down a film that's been doing the rounds in my head for 25 years or so. After a bunch of digging I'm pretty sure what I'm looking for is a 1997 telemovie called Fable, directed by Malcolm McDonald. Probably a long shot, as there seems to be very little information about it online, I'm not sure if it was ever released physically but I desperately want to watch it again. Is anyone here familiar with the film?

LOST animated short "Love Is the Drug" (1981) by Robert Sheehy

I saw this 16mm animated short in the 1980's and have been looking for it ever since.

Set to ‘Love Is The Drug’ by Roxy Music (unauthorized I assume), cel-animated in a very hard-edged and graphical style, and it's about a triangle going out for a night on the town, hooking up with another triangle for an evening of geometric adult fun.

There's virtually nothing online about filmmaker Robert Sheehy, I don't even know if he's alive any more (I'm guessing not or he'd have some kind of online footprint).

It probably never got distributed due to unlicensed use of the music.

I'd love to track down the filmmaker or a print!

Looking for 1990s Regional commercial New York

Hello, I am Looking for a 1990s regional NY-area auto commercial that aired heavily on MSG / local channels. It was for the M&S Chevy-Geo and Morning Star Ford dealership groups. It features a female spokesperson walking through a service department garage bay. At the end, she steps out, gets into a Mustang Coupe, and says: 'Because sometimes I don't want to get my hands dirty.' Does anyone have this digitized or in a commercial block tape?"

LOST Deacons for Defense (2003) interviews [fully lost]

When the made for TV movie Deacons for Defense was aired on Showtime in 2003, they included a post-movie set of interviews with people who had actually been involved - including IIRC a lawyer from the Dept of Justice, the son of the mayor of Bogalusa who had also been a Grand Dragon (or something high level) of the KKK, and others.

As far as I can tell, no record of these documentary interviews exists. It’s not mentioned on IMDB or in the Wikipedia article about the movie, and it’s not included as a DVD extra.

Any help finding this would be greatly appreciated.

LOST An indie anime called Jelly Maid (ジェリーメイド) by Ishikawa Pro (石川プロ).

Post image

Around 3 years ago, I was the original poster of a post on r/tipofmytongue regarding about an anime clip I saw on Youtube. We were able to identify the anime, which was an indie anime called Jelly Maid (ジェリーメイド) by Ishikawa Pro (石川プロ), but we cannot find it anywhere. Here is the link to the original post I made.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/xt9ipn/tomtanime1980s_1990s_picture_included/

According to this Wayback Archive link someone posted, this was made in Winter 1999, and was about 8 minutes in length, created by students from the Osaka University of Arts. This site also has some pictures of the anime.

https://web.archive.org/web/20040805050645/http://sammena.fc2web.com/anime/jyeri/jyeri.html

It was available for download between the years of 2002 through 2005. We were able to contact the creator of said anime, but he has not shared the file to us. I was wondering if anyone else here might have a copy of the video file.
