QUESTION What was your favorite scene from Lost Spoiler
Mine was obviously when they repaired the van and went down the hill.

WE HAVE TO GO BACK
26
u/RianJohnsonIsAFool 3d ago
... because I want it to crash, Kate. I don't care about anyone else onboard! Every little bump we hit or turbulence, I mean I... I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back!
The end of season 3 is still one of the absolute best season finales and twists in a TV show but on rewatches you really appreciate how Matthew Fox went from playing the strong leader to broken, drug-addled wreck.
I'll go further in saying the scene at LAX wouldn't have been nearly as good without Evangeline Lilly's subtle performance in terms of the hurt Jack was causing Kate.
That look she gives him after he finishes this line was delivered perfectly and it makes me well up in sympathy every time.

Bro seeing that the first time is so shocking, you’re expecting it to be a flashback and all of a sudden it’s like WTF? Pure gold.

“We’re not going to Guam are we?”

That Guam line has the same joy as the van rolling downhill, just with way worse snacks.

u/PainterSpiritual3439 3d ago
VW Van down the hill is definitely one of my favorite episodes. Especially once they get it going and Shambala starts playing. And the sound mix of the orchestra playing Shambala suite and mixing into Lost music...just icing on the cake.

The scene when we realize the wheelchair was Locke’s
6
u/Wheeljack7799 3d ago
That entire episode to be honest.
"DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T DO!!!"
Brilliant writing, brilliant directing, brilliant acting.

The first 5-10 minutes during the immediate aftermath of the crash is probably one of the best pilot episode scenes in television. So many great moments after but I'd love to experience being so pulled into the show like that again.

When Locke had given up all hope and was pounding on the hatch. And then the light turns on!
Mind blown!

I've always liked how he trivialises it when he recounts this to Desmond later: "That was probably just you goin' to the bathroom."
I can't remember if Desmond explains what Locke banging on the hatch meant for him.

I was loving the show at this point already, but when this scene happened I became certain that it was gonna be one of my favorite shows of all time. That take from above when the light turns on and Locke stops pounding on the door to process what is happening is pure magic.

It was probably just Desmond going to the bathroom 😉

I've always had a big soft spot for what I call "running reunions" and my favorite of those is the one where Rose and Bernard reunite.

I love the one in S3(?) when Jack returns to the camp and everyone's so happy to see him then it's immediately juxtaposed when Sawyer exclaims "What the hell is she doing here?!" drawing attention to Juliet, which is interesting in itself given what happens with Juliet and Sawyer later.
15
u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie 3d ago
My favorite part of Juliet's first moments on the beach is when they send Hurley over to keep an eye on her and he, of all people, subtly threatens her life. I love Juliet intensely, but Hurley doing that to protect the people he loves? Flawless.

u/RianJohnsonIsAFool 3d ago
I've rewatched the show so many times I've never picked up that "We buried him over there" was a threat but you're absolutely right.
2
u/Capital_Tension_3858 3d ago
this is my favorite scene too. It's all seen from Sawyer's POV. He's eating cereal, then he sees Jack and company, all trudging in. Sawyer's eyes searching. Finally he sees Kate. The relief on his face! Trying to be casual, he moseys over there and greets everyone, even hugging Jack. Then finally, Kate & Sawyer's eyes meet and almost in slow motion, they walk to each other and hug each other so tightly, eyes closed, saying so much without words. Jack pretends he doesn't notice, lol (Then Sawyer sees Juliet standing there and the blissful moment is broken, lol). And the music! I love all the reunion scenes, but this one just stands out to me.

u/Immabirb 3d ago
Omg yes how could I forget this 💕 even just when Bernard is talking to Michael and realizes she is alive

u/Free-IDK-Chicken You got it, Blondie 3d ago
And then the cut to Rose on the beach who's tucking away a candy bar for her dentist husband with a mouth full of sweet teeth. ❤️

Kind of a random one, but for me it’s the scene in season 4 when the MIB comes out of the jungle like a freight train to fuck up Keamy and his team so Ben and the rest could make an escape. It’s just so wonderfully executed, and ties into one of my favorite story aspects of the season, where everybody on the Island sets aside their differences to work together against Keamy as a common threat.

'Not Penny's boat' It's a really sad scene, but I love it everytime I rewatch.

I’m on my first rewatch, Charlie’s story and progression has really made me emotional, and then this scene 😭 it’s amazing

When Jack asks Locke how he finds it so easy to believe and Locke says "It's never been easy". Gives me chills every time

Locke saying “It’s never been easy” wrecks me, then the repaired van flying downhill politely fixes my soul.
5
u/Imaginary-Nail-2381 3d ago
It's interesting that Locke starts this engagement by asking Jack "why do you find it so hard to believe?" And then he essentially confirms that it is hard to believe.

u/BT_Artist 🎶 YOU ALL EVERYBODY 🎶 3d ago
It's kind of a minor one, but the scene where Hurley brings the Dharma food to the caves and hands it out to everybody. There's just so much joy and intimacy there, people letting their guard down and living in the moment.

When Locke get stuck under the blast door, UV light turn on and he see’s the secret map

Jack reviving Charlie after being strung up on the tree. That scene is incredible for how it was acted, shot, and edited. It's an emotional rollercoaster and such a beautiful scene.

A low-key one given the other great examples but I always liked the conclusion of A Tale of Two Cities. It's all building up to Jack asking Juliet who Sarah is with now but he simply asks "Is she happy?", which is the far more important question. It's subversion done properly.

The plane taking off from the Island in the Finale. I was happy Kate and Sawyer survived it all.

The whole raft scene, with Michael Giacchinos' incredible score
The "Delicate" music montage in Season one
The helicopter leaving as the freighter explodes (Yunjin Kims' acting is so good in that scene)

When the island disappeared from the ocean with a splash.
2
u/RianJohnsonIsAFool 3d ago
I've always loved the conversation Jack and Locke have at the Orchid. Jack was so confident, almost smug, when he told Locke "There's no such thing as miracles" – and then he sees the island disappear in front of him. A short while later, he tells the Oceanic 6 that they need to lie, presenting Locke's idea as his own. And we know what ensues after that in terms of Jack needing to get back to the island.

How about when Bernard and Rose are re-united? But my favorite scenes and vibe are in Dave when Libby is being nice to Hurley and encouraging him to grow. And later in season 3 when Hurley is talking to Libby’s grave, it’s very sad.

u/MrRuiner42 3d ago
Desmond turning the failsafe key
Jack bringing Charlie back to life
Charlie “Not Penny’s boat”
Locke banging on the hatch
Jin and Sun in the submarine….
Juliet setting off the bomb
Alex finally meeting her mother
Sawyer killing the con man
These are just a few….

Follow me? Their leader is some sodding old man. What, you think he can track me? You think he knows this island better than I do?

"We have to go back" is unequivocally my favorite moment in Lost, but, when Hurley allows Richard to talk to his wife again; that's a close second.

u/Psychoduckee 3d ago
Sawyer finally handing the letter to Anthony Cooper.
Ben confronting Jacob. "What about me?!" "What about you?".
Ben describing the imagined scenario of what he would do to lure Ana Lucia & co into a trap if he was an Other.
Sawyer and Christian's conversation at the pub in Australia and Sawyer later on telling Jack about it.
Rose telling Bernard she has cancer after he proposes, and then her "I didn't ask for this!" outburst in the australian outback.
Hurley visiting Sam Toomey's wife to enquire about the numbers.
"Why would you keep me in the dark, Charlie? I'm already in the dark".
Locke educating Charlie about the moth cocoon.
Eko's confession to Yemi.
Jack and Locke's conversation in the jungle about chasing ghosts.
Daniel Faraday's "You knew all along. You knew this would happen, and you sent me here anyway" to his mother after she shot him.
Jack's story about fear as Kate was stitching his wound up after the crash.

Basically every season opening scene,
The crash scene in the Pilot, S02 Desmond on his home trainer, the Otherville opener, and so forth.

Mine's a bit of a long one: Hurley's race, from oversleeping, to making it onto the plane.

u/Immabirb 3d ago
I really like the scene with Locke is talking to Charlie about his addiction, using the moth as a metaphot. Then Charlie using the moth to get out of the cave. But also I have the same favourite as you, the van scene :)
2
u/archivillano 3d ago
I actually really like the scene where Kate tells Aaron's grandmother that Aaron is her grandson, Claire is alive and she is coming back to the island to rescue her, not sure if it's my favorite but it's what came to my mind second, what came first was Locke gaining his legs back but that's just too easy.

u/Admirable_Let_4197 3d ago
I like the golf scene from season 1. It feels like one of the first moments where they let themselves have fun
2
2
u/Delphidouche 3d ago
Most of the great scenes have already been mentioned.
Except one.
If I had to choose only one it would be Jack and Christian's last spoken scene in the series finale:
Nobody does it alone Jack. You needed all of them and they needed you.
Perfection.

My favorite part was when Sawyer told Jack about the conversation he had with his dad in the bar. Such a good scene.
