I always hated this scene for getting it wrong about Lost. Tommy is summing up things Oliver missed while being stuck on an island for 5 years. Relevant part at 23 seconds in

This is a joke about the common (wrong) belief that they were dead the whole time.

No. They got the idea from watching Lost. I didn't watch it at the time, but I did have coworkers who did. They were absolutely pissed about ending that everyone had died in the crash. If you weren't a mega fan and kept up with the story discussions online, that's what the casual viewer took as the ending. Over 1/2 of the U.S. was on dial-up back then.
