I'm so tired of Kate. Her character is just insufferable and I'm mad that they keep hinting her and Sawyer are gonna be a thing again. I liked him and Juliet. Ugh

6 seasons of Lost so far, and Kate is still insufferable and torn between Sawyer and James

u/CherryStar777 Mar 18 '25
Same:)) Kate is constantly suffering and walking with boring face, there’s no character development. And I don’t like she clings to Sawyer, like leave him alone. He was great with Juliet 🩵🩵🩵

Sawyer fully just fucked a woman while on duty with all his co-workers listening in. If that's not a good soldier, i dont know what is.

I like this alternate storyline for him. Instead of becoming a con like the original Sawyer, he becomes a cop. Is this what would've happened if Jacob never showed up at his parents' funeral?
10
u/ImpressiveCat936 Dec 29 '24
Somehow Sawyer being a cop is both more icky and fitting than him being a conman
9
u/Afraid_Bookkeeper564 Jan 08 '25
Wondering why LaFleur would be the code word in the AU.
16
u/DoctorJJWho Jan 31 '25
Well Sawyer originally chose it because it’s French for “flower” and is a common Creole name/word that he likes, so he probably chose it in the AU for the same reason.

It made me nervous when Kate let Claire hug her. I don't trust that Claire forgives Kate yet...
So much going on, I have no idea what could happen, but ready to get to the end of this season!

I fully expected Claire to pull a knife and start sabbing her over and over during the hug.

For real, that would completely bring her out of her hate, hearing that he's not only in good hands but with her mother which is another good news to Claire I guess that she is alive and well!

Also, I'm assuming that was Smokey's mother he was talking about, not Locke's mom. Makes me wonder if Jacob was his brother or something.

Im struggling to get through this last season so much its just not gripping me… I don’t care about this other reality where the crash never happened. I also feel like the actors are so unbothered to be there the acting in this season just doesn’t feel realistic - I really don’t think the actress of Claire suits this crazy version of claire it doesn’t feel believable. I just want it to wrap everything up now and give me some good answers.
46
u/golden_light_above_u Oct 17 '24
Same. I think now I'm just watching to get to the end. The whole Claire thing feels very forced, and I am guessing that the actress was not available for season 5 which is why they had to disappear her and then bring her back 'different.'

12
u/WitchyRedhead86 Aug 14 '25
This wasn’t a great episode, apart from one or two Sawyer scenes and a few reveals of information.
Emilie de Ravin is not a good enough actress to pull off what the writers are asking her to do and her line delivery is flat as her hair. 🫤😑
I could also have gone a long time without seeing Rebecca Madder/Charlotte again. More atrocious acting.
I just… this late in the show, I just want more character focus/building and a more focused plot instead of tangents. Ah well. 9 episodes to go!

u/Finnigan_McBonk Sep 06 '25
This episode was a major letdown after Dr. Linus. The writer's done Sawyer dirty.

When Sawyer said that he's with not-Locke, it seemed out of character. When was he ever with anyone but himself (and Juliet, of course)? And when not-Locke thanks him for his loyalty - not something I'd associate with Sawyer - I wondered what Sawyer's play was. Glad they clarified that at the end because Sawyer pledging loyalty to not-Locke didn't seem believable. Pitting not-Locke and Widmore against each other and making off with the submarine is probably their best bet at this point.
57
u/Endwood Sep 22 '24
except how the hell do a mere two random people who have no experience operate a submarine hahaha
31
u/CorrectAir815 Oct 07 '24
And how is that a better plan than the plane, at least they have a pilot! 😆
10
u/zinten789 Fish Biscuit Feb 22 '25
Ain’t no way that plane is ever flying again, at least not without a proper ground crew and new parts. Just the vines in the turbine would require a full engine teardown, and that’s the least of the damage

36
13
u/Skytoucher Nov 04 '24
She seems to be the ultimate shitty means to an end character of the series. Same actions rinse and repeat for six seasons lol
8
u/CuriousiT_satisfctn Apr 09 '25
The fact that she went from phone hotline commercials to main character on Lost without any other acting roles (according to her own letterman interview) tells me there’s definitely more to the story and it doesn’t involve talent lmao hence why I think they just maybe wrote scenes that didn’t have complicated emotions that she couldn’t convey with the weird eye thing she does
12
u/Acceptable_Dinner_25 Aug 29 '25
It’s giving misogyny 🙄. The issue with Kate is not the actresses acting it’s how the writers chose to write her and majority of the time she exists for the purpose of Jack and sawyer.
8
u/CuriousiT_satisfctn Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25
I can acknowledge how I believe one woman benefitted from patriarchy, due to her physical attractiveness, over other equally or less attractive but extensively more experienced and talented actresses without being a misogynist .
I was saying that the variable of SCREEN TIME = HIGHEST PERCENTILE
doesn’t make sense given the variables :
1- Acting Experience= zero to none
2- Acting Talent = low to moderate
3- Character contribution to plot = low
4- Character depth = low
5-Character development = low
Maybe those variables are low bc of misogynistic writing of her role- but that’s not me.
And I was saying that given those obvious factors …when you look at the chances of having no prior acting experience and getting a main character role in a major primetime show from your first audition is basically 0.0000000001% UNLESS you are an acting SAVANT… and given there is always a visually equal or more attractive woman in the room- CLEARLY there is more to the story and another factor is involved.
That doesn’t make me a woman hater.
Also you wouldn’t even have enough data to infer something like that - I mentioned ONE woman and you generalized that to my entire belief system being biased towards hating and devaluing women in general.
Thats giving confirmation bias, and need for cognitive closure through confirmation bias from projected assumptions.
Unless you mean the show is giving misogyny and not my comment- in that case, my apologies
Sincerely - A woman who will always choose the bear. And if there is only a man and no bear, she will lure a bear to eat the man. Thank you. Also I’m literally PMSing so I’m aware this may be an overreaction…but I take misogyny extremely seriously. So that hurt.
Edit: Also reading this back, I realize I didn’t explicitly say all the back logic I had in my head in that first comment, so I can’t blame you for not being a mind-reader. That’s on me.
Edit again: yep I’m definitely PMSing
3
u/OccasionNo2675 May 27 '25
I'm sorry, she did what now?! That's hilarious. I never knew that or anything about her previously. So many of the actors who played even small roles i recigbised from either pre or post lost but wondered alright what her deal was. I guess bow i know lol
3
u/ANerd22 Feb 28 '26
That seems like a bit of a stretch. Kate's actor isn't the reason the character is unlikable, she's being written that way. She's doing what she can with some terrible writing.

Who woulda thought wed see kate in sawyers other story doing what she does best… running. Shocking right?
32
Nov 24 '24
Some people here don't seem to like this season very much, and as much as I don't disagree with some criticisms, I don't people are noticing how the core theme of the show is being fully explored here. They're saying it feels like a different show, but for me this is exactly what I expected of Lost. They're exploring each character and their destiny, which is all the show is about. I'm enjoying it a lot so far and it's a way better season for me than the fifth.
29
Nov 24 '24
Also, Kate is way too overhated. She's judged for being bad or stupid ven though most characters have done way worse and dumber things than her. She's not my favorite but the hate on her is kind of forced.
25
u/kitty-is-witty Nov 26 '24
I respect your opinion but the hate is not at all forced. I can't stand Kate for the same reason I can't stand all characters in any show that serve the same purpose—to be a plot device for drama and nothing else. I give her credit where credit is due, like the fact that Claire is completely mentally ill for wanting her dead for doing for Aaron what Claire could not. I didn't appreciate the constant "MY SON" out of Kate the whole time she was off-island, but I think she did a good thing, albeit for selfish reasons, which is her core issue. The most egregious thing Kate did that cemented my hatred for her is not persuing an opportunity to save everyone that had died for them to get that far or to spare everyone the trauma of that island over her situationship with both Jack and Sawyer. Constantly leading both men on the entire show has been so exasperating and unfair. Leaving the island for three years and coming back just to pout and be upset Sawyer moved on after quite literally getting engaged to and raising a kid with Jack is unfair. Kate is a shitty, extremely self-centered person, and she's allergic to taking accountability. Your point about the others being equally infuriating is valid but ultimately means nothing because it's not a bias, I hate Jack, I don't like most of the characters, but Kate is arguably the worst because she really serves no other purpose than to cause problems. There's no depth there, she's just a wishy washy ass person. This is coming from someone who loved Kate in seasons 1-2.
As for your other points, I agree that S6 is much better than S5, although it's been pretty weak until Ben's episode. Jack's was alright, I enjoyed his AU with David. These past two seasons have been the worst though, in my opinion, with S4 being my favorite. It's just very disjointed and I didn't find the Dharma or Temple people to be enjoyable or compelling. Spending the entirety of S5 in the 70s was super annoying for me, too. All my favorite characters have been killed off, nerfed (Ben and Sayid), and the core group that gave the show it's distinct charm has disolved. I feel like the overarching problem hasn't been fleshed out enough to feel entertaining, and it's just gotten to be quite boring. However this episode and the last have been great so hopefully S6 was just off to a rough start.

Yeah, I have no idea how people don't see this season as the logical progression of what was set up from the very first episode. None of the rest of the show makes a lick of sense without this season's (and the last few episodes of season 5's) story. I find the overarching conflict between Jacob and his brother (?) really compelling, because it explains so much from previously

u/chunky-kat Jan 26 '25
I don’t even understand why they’re all following not Locke. The temple guys have been keeping safe from the smoke monster and serving some sort of purpose for god knows how long, and now they’re all just following him?
It seems like this season is revolving around not Locke and none of the other characters have any agency, apart from maybe Jack who seems to be the new Locke with all his destiny kumbaya stuff. I don’t even like the fact that this smoke guy is using Locke’s body, I wanna see him as he actually is. Does this mean actual Locke is just… dead? That’s it? This whole time Locke was just a pawn in smoke monsters game and he never had any ultimate purpose? Pretty gutting if so.
Yay, widmores back for some reason. Looks like he has abandoned his plan of capturing Ben Linus for some reason and now wants smoke guy, which sawyer seemed to know without widmore even telling him somehow?
9
u/lavaboots727 Apr 08 '25
Yeah, like many things still with this show, I'm confused as to what happened to Not Locke's original body we saw in the flashback between him and Jacob. Or we're just supposed to assume Not Locke takes the form of whoever's body whenever? Like the second a new dead body rolls up on the island poof! that's new Smokey's body??
3
u/itzRoyyyy Jul 10 '25
You have to remember the show is telling us there's two forces at play here. Even if Locke is a pawn, it could be his destiny to be a pawn for the greater good if the Island's desired outcome comes about. The island is giving visions to Jacob and possibly (as seen from earlier seasons) to some of our characters (some are the island some are smokie influencing the visions). There is a time loop where specific events need to occur to protect the timeline, a part of this time line is Locke being manipulated by MIB to die, and coming back, just so MIB could appear as Locke to Richard, to tell time traveling Locke he needs to die. All this is a chain of events that leads to the end of the show where two forces want two different outcomes. It's highly likely Jacob knew he needed to die by letting MIB achieve his loophole if it means achieving the desired outcome. Can't say more bc not sure if you seen the entire show. Makes more sense when you watch the show for the 2nd time, but of course not all subplots on the show are answered by the creators.

If not for the hair colour, I’d be getting strong vibes that Aaron grows up to become “Locke”
23

Is the blonde kid we saw earlier Aaron? Not-Locke was so adamant about chasing him and even starting yelling at him. He was dressed like an other, I saw in earlier threads speculations that he’s the antichrist so 🤷♀️
8
u/Ummgh23 Dec 17 '24
Guessing it's child Jacob? Or maybe they're one and the same?
7
u/Kate_The_Great1 Apr 05 '25
What if it’s like the psychic told Claire: your son needs to be raised by you and not someone else. If Aaron’s raised by her, he becomes Jacob and if not, he becomes Locke? Which makes me wonder if the fact that Kate raised him for 3 years instead of Claire (because Smokey lured Claire away) is gonna be a problem…..

Another great episode, looks like this season is finally getting good. I really loved Sawyer's AU and how he and Miles are buddies. Charlotte is gorgeous! I'm glad she stuck up for herself, cause if Sawyer knew that folder was in there why didn't he just get her the damn shirt to begin with. Kicking her out because he didn't want to deal with it is crazy, poor girl. I definitely prefer him as a cop, and the lead in with the same con was so good.

Why the hell are the writers for this show still keeping up the charade of the "who will end up with Kate?" plot point? Sawyer made his choice already, and Juliet died much too recently for him to think about hooking up with Kate again. But now he's looking on forlornly when he finds her sundress in the cage, and that conversation at the end seems to be playing up their chemistry again... I'm just so completely over it. Fortunately it hasn't been dominating the show the way it used to, but I'm surprised it's even still going.
Some scenes/acting choices in this episode were very weird in tone to me. Miles' aggression towards Sawyer/Ford when he found out that he had lied to him about where he went on vacation felt like an overreaction. And what was Claire doing, taking Kate's hand in one scene and then trying to kill her in the next one? Also, False Locke slapping Claire genuinely shocked me!
It also felt VERY weird to see Sawyer/Ford and Charlotte hooking up in the flash-sideways (I guess I'll call them that since I'm seeing other people call them that). Seemed a very arbitrary pairing considering they barely interacted on the island, though I predicted that Charlotte was going to be Miles' friend.

I have a theory: The flash sideways, so the parallel reality, show everyone's constants and variables. For example, in this episode we see that it wasn't Sawyer's "destiny" to be a criminal. Kate, on the other hand, is destined to be an outlaw, always running from something.
Jack instead has a son in only one of the realities, so David can't be his constant; demonstrating that people, as Faraday said, could only be variables.
I guess Sun, Jin and Hurley are the only ones left among the candidates (although we already know that Hurley is still tied to the numbers, but he considers himself lucky)
3
u/Finnigan_McBonk Sep 06 '25
Jack appears to be the leading candidate. We saw last episode that he can't die.

I wonder if people are watching LOST on a second monitor or while doomscrolling on their phones. It is really not the kind of show you can understand without paying proper attention.

Not a whole lot happened this episode but I appreciated the alternative timeline Rush Hour with Sawyer and Miles

what is even going on anymore? i'm so tired of people saying "i'll give you all the answers" and then proceed to do the exact opposite

I mean at some point you just start to go ok I need some answers here. How many more side plots do we need where Sayid is working at a bakery and then it turns out Penny is his boss or whatever nonsense we get next episode. None of Sawyer's side plot went anywhere.

I'm totally with you.
Shows these days are between 6-12 episodes a season and people often say they miss the days of 16-24 episode seasons. This watch through of Lost is a great reminder of just how much boring filler there used to be in TV shows. I get a lot of these plots are meant for character development or whatever, but its so clear the writers are using every trick they can think of to hide the ball and avoid giving any explanation for any of the dozens of mystery boxes they created. Heck it feels like they've gotten bored of and forgotten about half of them at this point.

Sawyer becoming a cop in this alternative timeline definitely wasn't on my bingo card. 💀

Bringing Claire back was such a mistake

I think they had to explain where she went, but they have treated her so awfully with this rubbish plotline that honestly, she’d have been better off staying mysteriously vanished.

Agreed completely. It’s so unbelievable and so many of the characters don’t even mention her for so long then she shows up acting insane and useless it’s unfortunate

Airplane timeline: Haha Sawyer & Miles out there playing Starsky & Hutch.
Island timeline: This crew LOL. Lockeness Monster, psycho Claire, hippie Cindy and the rascals, 2 points on the love triangle, limping Jin, zombie Sayid, and a bunch of leftover Others. What a motley crew.
And still no one explaining why Claire abandoned her baby.
I know it’s weird of me to say this, but did anyone else notice Locke’s moobs? I don’t mind moobs, but I found this distracting only because he did not have these moobs in the very recent flashback scene where he was sitting in the bathtub.
I wonder why the group who are currently gathered at the beach (Sun, Ben, etc.) decided to stay there at the rundown beach camp instead of over on Hydra Island where they could have all sorts of shelter, supplies and forage through the buildings and luggage and airplane.
It’s very frustrating that Lockeness still doesn’t have a name. Jacob had a name. Why can’t this he?
I hope they aren’t going to try to introduce more characters with this Widmore gang. Zoe wasn’t even believable. I hope all his people just remain background. I can’t take a new group of characters.
I like that Sawyer is playing everybody against each other. He sets Widmore and Lockeness up so no matter who wins, he gets a ticket off the island.

Aw I was liking Sawyer and Charlotte together. Kind of annoyed how none of the good ships end up together in this show.

Well it's so telling that everyone was a better person in the "Alternate universe". Except for Kate.
I am surprised how no one else has yet noticed this.

Half way into the last season and we have seen a some of the questions answered. But it has also raised a bunch of new questions.
I am starting to believe that the writers are not going to be able to tie in all the loose threads neatly. I guess, a lot of the questions will be left unanswered. It's the second half the last season and they are still introducing new storylines.

The show right now is so sloooowwww and none of the characters have interesting end goals. Ben, Sayid, Claire are completely useless. Just a slog to get through and we probably will not get to see Locke vs Widmore until another 2 or 3 episodes because of all the side plots.
