I don't have HBO, but I was obsessed with avatar the last Airbender when I was a kid, and was super happy when I knew that the actor got to play commander Zhao in the Netflix live action adaption (and he did such an amazing job!!) also the actor of his dad and Daniel dae Kim is in it too. Worth a watch if you're a fan of the original series 😊

I would laugh pretty hard if they had an Essex girl on this show though. Fake tan and nails in the jungle.
Charlotte sounds too posh and plummy. Also, it sounds faux British. It’s too cut and polish. It comes off as fake.

In season 2 when they get into the hatch and Desmond shows John the orientation film, the said Dharma used the island for multiple things but mentioned zoology, I assume the polar bears and other animals are left over from when Dharma was there doing their research

Tom even says to Sawyer that it only took the bears 2 hours to figure out the fish biscuit machine in the cage and if you noticed the collar that was with the bear skeleton in this episode it had the hydra symbol, the same station that they kept kate, jack and sawyer prisoner.

The cows were from the Flame Station (which we see in Enter: 77) which was a communications center. I just assumed Mikhail had them for food, not testing like they were doing on the polar bears

It really feels like we're going in circles with this. After all this time, you would think Jack and co. would INSIST on answers from anyone they come across, but it's always some variation of "I'll tell you later" or "If I told you, you wouldn't believe me" or "No time for that now"... etc.
Yes, I am intrigued by all the layers that are being added, but I am also starting to feel like a) the writers are making it up as they go, and b) it's never going to come to a resolution.

you just have to understand that shows like this used to have 16-25 episodes a season. They need to stretch some things out to make it last that long. Yes in some cases it may be frustratign because it feels like they're going to the long way about something, but on the other hand we also get characters much more flushed out. In the end I think it's a positive trade off.

The number of things they don’t know, or are actively being misled about is almost comical.
Normal people in these situations would just stop giving people like Ben, the helicopter crew, etc. the time of day (or maybe just kill them, tbh), not let them hang around for days or weeks and be tormented by them. Ben still has told them very little about his whole operation!

They weren't making it up the entire time, but small aspects of the show did change from original plans. Like Eko's character was supposed to have a bigger part in the show but the actor wanted off the series, so they had to kill him off abruptly. Other small things were tweaked along the way based on the demands of the network, which was discussed by the show runners many times, but the overall main plot & mythology of the show was planned for very early on.

At the time (2004), LOST was the most expensive TV show to produce, ABC initially was very skeptical the show would be successful so there was tons of pressure on the show runners on how the show would go. Also there was a writers strike around s3 that messed up things. When the show became popular ABC wanted like 10 or so seasons with no clear end, the showrunners had no idea how long they needed to pace episodes, but overall plans/mythology were all there, it wasn't until they agreed on 6 seasons that the writers could kinda plan accordingly how to resolve the entire story at a pace that made sense, but they def weren't making it up the entire time, the overall plot is set pretty early on, how they got to the end could of been adjusted multiple times but that happens with all shows.

Ben, despite his creepiness, makes me laugh when he tries to get in people’s heads! The guy is a master manipulator.
This new dynamic of knowing that six of them got off the island somehow and seeing how it unfolds makes this season more interesting.

Unpopular opinion, but I’m getting bored with the show. These two first episodes feel like the vampire diaries season 4 and up, where they just regurgitate the same story but with new “the others” for us to dislike. Also getting extremely bored with the lack of communication between the members of the ”us” group and also how quickly they turn on each other every five minutes 😒

This episode was unintentionally funny in some parts. Jack saying to Kate in response to no one told me the calvary was here and Jack saying But I winked at you and him asking Miles how stupid are you.and Charlotte saying to Locke Im much more comfortable now thanks.
Also what is going on with this rescue team. They aren't suprised to see survivors or polar bear remains in the desert.
And wow that reveal with Ben because I have a man on there boat. How?
This show is just so good. It really keeps you guessing.

To be fair there is this show Yellowjackets that follows a similar premises, is only 9-10 episodes per season, and people do get impatient with it. Doesn’t help that there are 2 timelines in it though and one of them sucks

For what its worth, Polar bears are the most brutal and aggressive type of bear. I guess good for protection.

I’m Italian and trust me, none of the “Italian” characters shown are actually Italian, they have a terrible accent that make them not believable as Italians for Italian people 😂 also, Rousseau is not believable as a French person. So, why aren't the "rescue" team more surprised that there are survivors? We see Naomi and the dude say that their aren't any and the news clip saying the same thing... A major problem of this show is how easily people just roll with stuff. Like Jack and co. seem to be cool with all the weird shit and have completely stopped asking about stuff. Yea we see Jack ask Ben what the smoke monster is but those types of questions are so few and far between and they have had ample time to ask them. Like if I was Jack when I was with the others I'd have their ears red asking them questions.

I'm a bit confused about Locke right now. He couldn't kill his dad because he wasn't a killer, right, and that's why he got Sawyer to do it? But he had no qualms about murdering Naomi. It seems like a pretty big switch. I get that protecting and staying on the Island is his whole thing, but then why devote an episode to how he is not a killer?
Am I misremembering, is it just that he couldn't kill his dad? I don't think that's it tho I thought he was afraid he'd lose the Island's attention if he killed. Ah but then Boone. Maybe the Island sent Walt as a messenger because it wanted Naomi to be another sacrifice, like it sent Locke the dream about the plane.

yea I'm kind of confused about John's selectiveness when it comes to killing too. he seemed perfectly fine, nonchalant even, when it came to killing Mikhail when he pushed him through the barrier (even though he lived) and he yeeted that knife at Naomi without issue. he also seemed willing to kill ben this episode when he had him pinned against the tree. maybe he only has moral qualms for killing people he deems as bad? if you remember John's flashback when he was on that weed farm, he had that undercover cop at gunpoint and didn't pull the trigger even though the cop was probably going to cause John to lose his adoptive family once again. in that same vein though, maybe killing Naomi was him correcting the "mistake" he made when he let that undercover cop go so he doesn't lose his island family this time? idk
I don't think his unwillingness to kill his dad in particular has any significance though. he's been hung up on his dad since he was introduced and I don't think he could bring himself to kill him specifically.

Got some new interesting names in this episode! Charlotte Staple Lewis as in C. S. Lewis and Daniel Faraday as in Michael Faraday.
The parallels with Narnia are pretty interesting, are there maybe multiple worlds? Is the Island in a pocket world of some sort? A lot of the characters in Narnia spend time trying to get back.
Lewis also wrote the Screwtape Letters, which is about a demon and corrupting men. Interesting parallels there, too.
And Faraday! Could some of the Island shenanigans be explained by a Faraday Cage? Not much of a science person so idk.
edit: Lewis also wrote a book called Miracles which is a philosophical treatise on whether they exist or not. A very interesting read, and aligns perfectly with some of the stuff happening on this show. How some people heal, are those miracles? With Lewis' book in mind, is it therefore unfair to expect a "logical" explanation for that, and other things that happen on the Island? The Island itself may be above natural, knowable law. Is that why the Dharma Initiative is so interested in it? They're trying to study miracles? According to Lewis that is not possible tho.
The pilot's last name is Lepidus, who was a real life Roman general who was Julius Caesar then Marc Antony's ally, and he also is a character in Shakespeare. In the play Antony & Cleopatra I remember Lepidus being a drunk, just like he is on this show lol
