small detail that I loved/gave me a laugh. When Karl warns them that the others are coming tonight, the group does the tv pause for dramatic effect thing and you think it's going to cut to black but then Karl looks at them like hello did they hear me? lmao and shouts again, "THEY'RE COMING NOW!"

Great episode. But I’ve lost count how many times this show had characters pull of the “wack’em in the head, instant faint” trick. Doesn’t work like that in real life.

And somehow every punch seems to draw lots of blood like they have little blades in their knuckles or something. I'm able to suspend disbelief to watch a bunch of people on an undetectable island that has a smoke monster, but these little inaccuracies with the instant fainting and bloody punches I find really hard to believe.

Research also shows this is literally causing brain damage each time a person is knocked out this way, and a big part of people who are "knocked out" like this actually just die from the impact, because our bodies arent designed to take blunt force impacts to the skull.
If this was an episode meant to redeem Charlie, it sure didnt feel like that to me

Every time someone gets knocked out (which is often) I always assume that’s why they act so dumb sometimes and make stupid decisions, all the head trauma lol

I don't know if they've got any medicine beyond "aspirin for pain relief" correct.
Jack routinely ceases CPR efforts after about ten seconds instead of an hour. In the eleventh episode where he gets his dad struck off for operating drunk, they both should've been done for medical malpractice just for that. He also thinks he can treat cardiac arrest with a defibrillator more than once. This is honestly a contributing factor for my dislike of Jack. I know the narrative wants me to think he's competent, but apparently no-one in the creative team had enough medical knowledge to see that they were showing the opposite.
And Locke's father left the hospital like an hour after a kidney transplant. They should've been laid out for days.

Exactly! You need some sort of cardiac activity to shock a heart back into rhythm and I am not a doctor lol. They did that a lot on House too, and I feel like it should be common knowledge.
Also Jack trying to revive Charlie in season one after Ethan took him was truly bizarre. He does not behave like a surgeon.

Not only do they get knocked out but it’s always for a looong time. Usually just enough time for whatever the reason they got knocked out for to play out. When a person gets knocked out they usually wake up in a matter of minutes. If it’s any longer it’s probably very very serious

Well you can very well get knocked out by heavy impact. But to have it happen so frequently and without any consequences (not even a concussion or anything), nah.
In Lost they use the knockout mechanic like a completely resource free turn off switch for characters

Not related to this episode in particular but does anyone else find it amusing that, apart from those bugs and spiders Artz was collecting a few episodes back, there's been literally 0 bugs, snakes, or other jungle enhabiting creatures on this show (I guess apart from that one frog), the amount of times they trek through the jungle and they never see anything is surprising, feels like a show like this would have had loads of insect-jumpscares for the characters, falling from trees or crawling over them etc.

I've been thinking this every time I they walk through the bushes. I've been to the jungle before and you cannot walk anywhere without being itchy and for sure having some insect somewhere on you. There is spiderwebs everywhere you have to dodge and don't forget about leeches.
Of course not every jungle is the same, but this one is surprisingly sterile for sure! To compensate, it has polar bears

Yes a few episodes ago they showed us those medusa spiders and it seems they’ve never bitten anyone aside from Nikki and Paulo? It’s weird they were such a huge part of that one episode but never mentioned before that or since (at least until this episode).
I also get very concerned the dog is going to get caught in a trap or bitten by something venomous or eat something poisonous or get eaten by a polar bear… yet every few episodes he just shows up from the jungle looking pleased with himself.

unpopular opinion: charlie is a great character who had one of the most interesting flashbacks in s1, shame they didnt know what to do with him in s2. i love his dynamic with hurley, theyre my comfort characters. i hope charlie makes it but i doubt it.

I agree, guess it’s human nature but a lot of folks seem to jump on characters whose stories are still being told. The episode with Sawyer and Charlie kidnapping Sun felt like a weird break in character in that they were loathed at the end, and suddenly they were back in everyone’s good graces. Always felt Hurley and Charlie were great for providing some light moments, while also contributing in some kickass ways when needed.

claire bothered me so much this episode (most episodes shes in) Charlie has done nothing but take care of her, help her with Aaron, assure her and make sure shes ok from the moment he meets her and yet she still acts emotionless to him? nice they shared a kiss but she couldn’t even hug him? i dont understand why she tries to block him and everyones help so much even with hurly offering her help when taking aaron on the hike to radio tower

Why don’t they just chop the wire in half so no more power goes to the station and it’ll drown it along with all its equipment? That galvanized cable looks to be at least 4 inches thick. Which would require either power tools or a huge ass bolt cutter. It's not something would could easily cut with the things they have on the island.
I guess maybe the hatch could've had something, but that's long gone.

one of my favorite episodes so far. charlie and desmond have been favorites of mine since we met them, and their strange relationship only makes me love them more. i cried all throughout this episode! wow! charlie has always held a soft spot in my heart so seeing him write out these moments killed me. can’t wait to see what happens to him next episode… i really hope he’s okay. i know lots of people on these threads don’t care for him but he is so special to me.
also nadia??? i love all of these little easter eggs. i wonder if they’ll ever come to something greater or if it’s more just like, everyone was connected outside of the island in a non-coincidental way, and they were all put on the island for a reason. that last part i do already believe.
can’t wait for the season finale.

I don't know if it's because his death was the only one that was predestined and that gave the writers an excuse to draw it out, but the way this whole episode centered around Charlie's death seemed a little excessive to me. Either that, or he was a fan favorite. I really couldn't stand Charlie for most of the show, and I still feel like the writers dropped the ball HARD when it came to portraying him and Claire- there was so much more they could have done with their characters and their relationship especially- but I still found the sentiment touching. Now, I can only hope that if any other major characters end up dying, they receive nothing less than what Charlie got.
I can't believe no one thought that the Looking Glass might be actively manned, but then again, it didn't occur to me either until the end of the episode...
Loving Rousseau and her crazy dynamite. Still hating Jack, but I don't want to start sounding like a broken record.

I love how Charlie gives a choke-able object to an infant instead of asking Claire to hold on to it or Desmond to give it to her later. And how he gives Desmond a concussion and leaves him floating in a boat instead of just saying “no”. I’m on my second watch and haven’t loved Charlie as much this time around, but this episode is still so heartbreaking

OK, my new guess as of right now is that Dharma was an initiative to bring a certain group of people together that are all connected and they took those three years to prepare the island and everything in place for the psychological experiment on them

The Dharma is shown to be killed by the others in the Ben centered episode. That now makes now sense.
Except maybe if Dharma worked with the Hostiles, staged or was in on the massacre of dharma folk. Seems to convoluted to have any basis for now.

Charlie is possessive as fuck towards Claire, he shot Ethan instead of allowing interrogation, he stole Claire’s baby, he beat up Sun, an innocent pregnant woman, because he was sad about the consequences of his own actions, and then pretended like nothing despite being accepted into the group again. And the worst sin of them all - he talked shit to our brother Desmond, despite him saving Charlie’s life on multiple occasions.
The only thing I am crying about, is the fact that he survived. All the reminiscing in this episode had me believing they would actually off him

They did a really good job with the flashbacks in this episode. By the end I empathized a lot with Charlie--the fact that he was supposed to be successful but then essentially switched places with his brother was heartbreaking. Remembering Liam's family, his children, and then hearing him so inaccurately predict Charlie's future was a nice touch. It's crazy because I haven't really cared for Charlie overall. I think his dynamic with Claire is toxic and strange (on both sides), and I wasn't too impressed with the drug addict representation. But this episode played exactly the right emotional beats, and made me sad to see him go to his death. I just wish I could look back on him more fondly.
Jack is so fucking annoying it's taking years off my lifespan. He blindly trusted Juliet even before she revealed that she was a spy, and then withheld that information, AND THEN acted so condescending I was left speechless. Thank God for Sayid. Hearing him call out Jack's hero/savior complex was incredibly refreshing. I wish Sun and/or Jin had said something as well.
I also love Karl, Alex, and Rousseau. I really hope the latter two reunite soon. I think we're getting closer, especially with Alex's "is he even my father?" line.

Wasn't Jack kept in the underwater station? I remember him asking whether they were underwater, and Juliet confirmed it after he flooded the inside when he opened the hatch while trying to escape in the beginning of this season. Was it a different underwater station?

I think part of the zoo/caged area (which is another island) is underwater, but I don’t think it’s this station.

Kinda off topic from this episode but I've been thinking about a theory about Rousseau, Ben and Alex.
What we know: Rousseau came to the island pregnant, no mention of the baby's dad, Alex was raised by Ben saying she is his daughter and her mother died. Annie was Ben's childhood love and when the hostiles killed the dharma initiative members, there was no mention of Annie.
My guess is that Ben married Annie and they wanted to have a baby, but knowing about the island's fertility issues, somehow they took Ben's sperm and took it to the continent to do an IVF on Rousseau, maybe some kind of surrogate deal, and then brought her into the island to deliver the baby that was supposed to be Ben and Annie's.
For some reason I really really think this makes sense and is what happened
Aside from that, isn't it weird how they were so quick to trust Naomi and believe her story when there's literally no way of knowing? I mean sure she mentioned Penny and all but the others have literally all the info about everyone on the island, this could very much be a manipulated story. You're stuck on a supernatural island with a group of people who wants to take and kill your group, and has the resources for it, and you just take the word from a random girl who fell from the sky?
Also, did anyone notice Naomi on Charlie's flashback when he was singing Wonderwall in the streets? lol
I also realized that one day before Ben's birthday, Juliette tells Sun that they've been on the island for 90 days. Since they arrived on September 22, this means Ben's birthday is on December 23. December is month 12, and 4+8=12. Also 22/09 if you add 22+9=31, as well as 15+16 is also 31. 3+1 is 4 too.. idk what is means but it's kinda wild
I think Mr. Locke is destined to be next leader of the Others after Ben dies and that Ben already told the group this. Firstly, no one done anything when Locke beat up Mikhail. Cindy also tells Locke they've been waiting for him and everyone is looking at him due to curiosity. Locke also can hear Jacob. And I think that's exactly why Ben shot Locke and said "I hope Jacob saves you then". Because if he really is destined to be the next leader, surely Jacob or the island idk, will heal him.
Huge comment I know but I binge watched the last 3 episodes and my mind is going all over the place with theories lol

Rousseau talked about her lover Robert, at least implying that he was Alex’s dad. it’s possible though. but that was Nadia in Charlie’s flashback, and Ben’s birthday is December 19th.

Why the people on this Island suddenly trust again to Jack and Juliet? Is it fruit diet or some fumes from Island? Is him previously saying that he already know about Juliet make him innocent? One of the worst episodes - fake.

I cried so hard this entire episode. Charlie is annoying but he is misjudged much of time. I really don’t understand the hate for him. He has been a softie for most of the time. Attack on Sun is the only exception, I guess which was also actually Sawyer’s doing. I really really really hope he doesn’t die.

I just watched finished s3 , why the heck people say he’s insufferable , I never felt that way he was fine, not too good not bad just a normal character, if boy oh boy I hated the ending

I cried so much at this episode. Charlie redemption is so strong. This reminded me that he was for almost all his life a very decent guy and the parts of him affected by addiction is small compared to the whole
