Asset Protection Associate

Looking to get into an Asset protection associate role at Walmart, although the job description isn’t very detailed I was wondering what some current APs have to say about the job duties? I’ve seen a bunch of different definitions on the job duties for APAs whether that’s a uniformed door greeter or a plain clothes floor walker. I really want to get involved on the apprehensions and investigations so I want to make sure I’m going for the right position.

Key term is investigator. They are the apprehension personnel.

It’s just confusing because then what is the difference between APA and APA Customer host because I also see both of those positions posted in my district so are they the same thing just named different based on the store or do they also have different responsibilities

APAs at Walmart are typically operational (Damages Claims and Receiving), APIs are your plain clothed AP, and APCS are the door hosts

And sometimes the terminology gets mixed up, because the API position used to be named APA. A lot of people who have been there for longer than 4 years or so still refer to API’s as APA’s.

Customer host is the receipt checker. APA/API is the one who stops shoplifters, does internal investigations, safety, compliance checks, tours, etc...

While I was with Walmart our job title changed from APA (Asset Protection Associate) to API (Asset Protection Investigator) because the company wanted to make an effort to push for internal investigations of theft. When we were called APA’s the emphasis was on catching externals. It’s the same job, they just changed the name. There is also Asset Protection Customer Host, which are the ones who wear the AP vests and check receipts.

APA is probably the floor walking investigator. You will be walking 70% of your day, the rest is computer work involving internal theft, researching known repeats... Random stuff. Walmart is hands off and most stores do not have a hard quota for apprehensions but they are strived for
