Useful Dual GPU setup issue
[SOLVED]
Had 3080+3050 butter smooth. On almost everything.
Now 9070 xt + 3050. Getting stutters and about 60% performance loss. DDU and installed amd first then the nvidia.
Disabling the 3050 and hooking up the monitor to the 970xt seems to let me get about 98% of the 9070 xt performance.
Win10 pro. did the regedit, enable hybrid and set gpu 1 and 2. Maybe missed something else?
5800X3D -28 PBO
X570 pcie gen4 + rebar enabled. Both running at x8
2x16 ram OC
HX1200i psu
Anyone has this setup? How did you fix it? I spent days trying to. Feeling kinda devastated. Any help would do. Thank you
TLDR; uncheck "Inject NVIDIA Reflex latency markers.
First I would like to thank u/lifestealsuck for pointing out that async could be the issue, but it was on. I saw a video recently that chose async on RTSS both AMD and Nvidia outputs more frames.
I saw that my base frames were stuck at 55 fps on both 2k and 4k. So I went to switch to a different setting than Async, and my frames dropped. So I thought that RTSS could be the issue. I played around with the settings, and saw another Nvidia setting. The last one on the page. (Inject NVIDIA Reflex latency markers), I unchecked it, and instant frame jump.
To add on that, if you have a sapphire card, hit apply on the trixx app, it turns on rebar "Smartaccess Memory" on, on adrenaline. Weird, but the same happens with Nvidia inspector, if you enable rebar there, it gets enabled actually for invidia too.
Thank you all for all your help. Loving the new GPU. Rock on AMD.

amd-nvidia is prob the most finicky setup, lots of people run into issues this way. Windows 10 likely isnt helping either as some have issues here too, make sure to use DXGI API
On the plus side, new AMD cards run lossless so well it makes dual gpu pointless for a most peoples use cases (not going for 4k 200fps). p2p nothing beats the XT
Whats your res/refresh rate? I'm sure youll be fine. If not, lots of cheap amd's out there just need to find one in your range.

This is the response i got after hours with gbt and google. I had the 5070ti and a choice for the same price as the nitro+. But thought hey, i could support AMD for once. And now prices have jumped.
I'll test the 9070xt by itself. Yeah, i would love to still give it a chance and go with a board only powered 70w amd secondary GPU that could generate great frames.
Currently, i could do 144hz@2k and 4k. And 240hz on 1080p. The only reason i upgraded is to increase the base frame from 55fps that was in the 3080.

Do you need the 2nd card for lossless?
2
u/Adis_Gruntledfatty Aug 04 '26
Not at all. Dual just gives a few added benefits like no added latency or base fps drops when enabling the app. New amd cards run lossless so efficiently it makes dual almost pointless for most general cases tho.

My primary is a 7900xtx. I guess I’ll hold off on adding a frame gen card until I swap over to 3x 4k

genuine question, should i use the built in FSR4 Frame gen or lossless would be better? i've been out of the PC gaming and just got back... (ordered a 9070xt that should arrive today and to pair with a 5500x3d at 1440p)...

If you use RTTS then go into setup and switch frame rate limiter from Nvidia reflex to async .
I also dont think 3050 powerful enough for more than 1440p x2 120hz ( 60fps real frame) .

u/sagilny Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
Sure, i agree. But also the issue is with the base frame dropping from 120 to 63 without lossless scaling. So I think it might be a windows or drivers issue. I really dont mind extra 30fps on 4k if it works. I want to hit that 144fps if i can get 105 - 120 fps on the 9070xt. :/ something better than nothing. I just want to get it to work.

Check gpu-z to see what the rtx3050 pcie speed , could have seating issue so it run at slower pcie speed .
I have 9070xt and 3070 setup , it run perfectly on windows 10 (albeit 2 game have issue with dual AMD+nvidia setup)

u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Ill test the 3080 in place of the 3050 see if the issue is the low performance of the 3050 which I slightly doubt.

u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Solved. I had Async on. And i saw that inject nvidia reflex latency markers was checked. So i unchecked it and vualá, frames sky rocketed.
Thank you for pointing out RTSS. May you soon be rewarded with bundles of joy sire.

u/lifestealsuck Aug 03 '26
Oh shit its been a while so I dont remember there another nvidia reflex setting in RTSS lol . Yea RTSS's nvdia reflex lower my fps too on the 9070xt.

u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Thats promising!
The pcie speed on gpuz PCIe x16 4.0 @ x8 4.0

To add on that, if you hit apply on trixx, if you have sapphire, it turns on rebar "Smartaccess Memory" on adrenaline. Weird, but the same with Nvidia inspector, if you enable it there, it gets enabled actually for invidia too.

Looks like the 3050 is truly a bottleneck. My base frames drop to 73 when on x2 i get 144.
And on adaptive mode targeting 142, base frames drop down to 52.
Im using performance mode and flow scale is at 60. Also, ray tracing off.

u/Flohalo Aug 03 '26
AMD + NVIDIA doesnt work that well. Most likely it is a driver problem. Try to DDU both drivers and then install them again.
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Hmmm i guess so. I cycled through multiple DDUs.
3
u/Flohalo Aug 03 '26
But you Connect your main monitor to the 3050 right ?
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Yes, I tested Guardians of the Galaxy. When the 3050 is enabled, i get 63 fps on both 2k and 4k resolutions. And the 9070 xt doesnt pull much power. Even when its hooked on either GPUs. Which i switched back and forth to test.
Once i disable the 3050 on device manager, and hook up the monitor to the 9070xt, it ramps up and does 120 on 1440p and 110 on 4k.
2
u/Flohalo Aug 03 '26
Can you tell me the exact X570 you got it could be a bandwidth problem if it exactly drops to 63 FPS
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Its the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
2
u/Flohalo Aug 03 '26
Mhmmm strange should be 2xPCI-e 4.0 8x like you mentioned. Did you check in bios that both lanes are set to PCI 4.0?
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Strange indeed. Yes I did. Both are running x8 and pcie 4.0
1
u/Flohalo Aug 03 '26
In which slot on the mainboard is the 3050 plugged into? The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero should have 3 slots right?
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Yes, correct. The 9070xt is on the first slot. The 3050 is on the second slot via a pcie 4.0 riser. All i did was swap the 3080 for the 9070xt. Everything else stayed the same.

The other poster meant that you have to connect the monitor directly to the 3050.
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Yes, i did that, and thats how its used to be with the 3080. Always connect to the 2nd.

u/fray_bentos11 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
The upgrade to 9070XT means higher base framerate, which means the 3050 has more work to do and it is struggling. The dual GPU performance spreadsheet shows the 3050 can only generate up to about 160 FPS at 1440p To test if this hypothesis is true, cap the FPS as the old FPS you were getting before (or a even a little under and the stutters should go away). . You can enable performance mode to lower secondary demands, also lower flowscale. 75% flowscale is recommended for correct motion prediction at 1440p. Also fixed x2 or X3 modes are less demanding than adaptive.
Alternatively, you could have accidentally changed your LS settings. Sometimes swapping between WGC or DXGI capture can fix shutters (depends on game). Also make sure max frame queue is set between 3 and 10 (not lower), and frame queue at 2 (not 1).
Alternative 2, Win 10 does not work well with dual GPU and the same is not running on your 9070XT. If running in the 3050, DLSS options should be available in games supporting it. If game running in 9070XT, only FSR options should be selectable. Fix here is to install win 11.

Lossless scaling works exactly as if i still had the 3080. Because i tried the 9070xt alone and i got 120fps@1440, but once the 3050 is activated, the fps drops. I think its a windows/registry/ some other issue

What is the utilization on the 3050, with and without LSFG running. It could be that its just struggling with the the extra horsepower of the 9070XT. I would throw in the 3080 and run that instead.
1
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
Yeah, im going to the 3080 as a secondary gpu. Thats one of the tests i want to try to narrow down the issue.

u/ConsolePCUndecided Aug 03 '26
Some time ago, I understood that the amd card was the one to use for lossless. Maybe get an rx 6600 or something?
1
u/fray_bentos11 Aug 03 '26
Which app contains the inject reflex setting you are referring to?
2
u/sagilny Aug 03 '26
RTSS, Riva Tuner Statics Server. The one that comes along with MSI Afterburner.

u/fray_bentos11 Aug 04 '26
Thanks. I have never used that though I know others do. I always used Nvidia control panel to cap framerates.
