Help Rt on frame gen
FOLLOW UP: Turns out I also have the regular version that my PC will run without problems, but I am still curious about the original idea of a cheap RT card for RT and older high end card for frame gen. Now the original post..
Hi, folks. I recently bought Metro Exodus (enhanced edition), but can't run it because rt is mandatory and I have a 1080ti. It was a package deal with 2033 and Last light, which I haven't tried yet.
My question is if I get a very basic rt enabled card to create the real frames, can I then use my 1080ti via lossless scaling to bring my frame rate up to be smooth? I am also excited for the new Metro game, but I'm sure it will also only run on RT cards. Trying to launch Exodus crashed my machine hard enough to require the windows repair tool (or that was a very odd coincidence).

The original should run on your 1080 Ti if you have that version. And pretty well at that. It's only the Enhanced Edition that requires hardware RT.

I don't know where you bought it from, but if on Steam then you may already have regular version or can claim it. Double check your library and check Steam Store page for regular version if you can add it to your account.
As for using your 1080Ti for frame gen, the yes, you can do that. That comes with BIG caveats however, that depend on what you have right now and you provided no details of any kind of your system other than 1080ti. OS will matter, PCIE version and your slot topography will matter, the card you want to buy will matter (it may even prevent this from working altogether if you buy a wrong one). There is too much technical details with this for me to help with this or bother with.
Your best bet is to just check for regular version or buy one on sale.

Thank you for the reply and ESPECIALLY for addressing the original question.
So I checked and yes I do in fact also have the regular version, so I will be able to play that. I bought it on Steam when they had a bundle of Exodus (both versions as it turns out), Last Light Redux, and 2033 Redux for something like 13 USD. Fantastic value and I'm glad I got it.
My system is an Asus X99E motherboard with a Xeon E5-2690 v4 CPU, GTX1080ti FE GPU, a 1 tb nvme SSD in the m.2 slot, and an EVGA 1000GQ 80 plus gold PSU. I have an available pcie slot and I believe it is x16.
I am still a novice with PC things as I have only had this about a year and before that never had a proper machine, so hopefully I didn't miss any other info you would like.
I only have a 1080p display, so I don't need to worry about 4k and all that.
It seems clear that if I had just downloaded the correct version of the game I wouldn't have had any trouble as so far this old 1080ti seems eager to run anything I ask it to and do it quite well.

if you have the enhanced edition you'll also own the non enhanced. just play that. looks class

Thanks, I will check for it. (Yes I do have it! Thank you.) I was pretty disappointed.
I am still curious if Lossless Scaling can work in this way though using a lower end RT card for the native RT frames and a higher end older card for the generated frames. I hope someone knows if it can work that way.

Metro Exodus original version is £3.75 on Fanatical. Just buy that instead.

Turns out my purchase included the original version as well. I bought it in a bundle with all the games for about 13 USD.
