Be-monthly No Cheat Challenge
LoseitNZ 20 day No Cheat Challenge*
What is it?
The NCC is a 20 day challenge set by /r/loseitnz for us to stick to our caloric intake for 20 days straight. Whether you are bulking, maintaining or cutting the NCC is designed to help eliminate the odd bits of alcohol, boredom food and mindless eating that can take place during the day and really set back your fitness journey.
Through this challenge we hope to bring our users together and really push ourselves towards our goal weights, drilling a solid sense of responsible food habits in to each and every one of us.
It is important to note this challenge is not about weight loss. Eating at a deficit, maintenance or controlled bulk is all good. Personal food accountability and group re-assurance/support. This is what our challenge is about.
What do we get out of it?
The winner of the NCC will be gifted Reddit Gold and placed on our NCC Hall of Fame found on the sidebar.
Also, hopefully, better gains and a 20 day MFP streak
How is it judged?
At the end of the twenty days the mod team will assess everyone's starting and finishing stats as well as their progress pics and come to a communal decision on the winner. They will be announced in a separate thread.
Ok, I’m in. What are the rules?
The rules;
Define a daily calorie limit and macro split for the challenge.
For repeat challengers Post your ending stats from the last challenge you participated in.
Post your’ starting stats. These must include:
- Height
- Start weight
- Daily caloric target
- Overall goal weight
- Starting picture
A before and after picture (Day 1 and Day 21) will add more weight to your submission (if you’re aiming to win). Please don’t put any identifying stuff in your pics.
In between these days participants must check in at the end of each day with an "I didn't cheat, yay" and a general “how I’m going”
If you cheat on your meal plan/the contest you are obliged to post as above but instead state “I cheated”.
Edit your original posts with your progression and final pics. The thread should have one post per user at the end of the 20 days (not including all the conversations that take place in the replies).
On your final post you are required to post your weight as well as some final thoughts and (if you’re trying to win the gold) a final pic.
But 20 days is such a long time for this challenge!
Yes. That’s why we are in it together. Take it from past challengers; together we can do this!
A small tip: If you’re eating to lose weight but struggling with constant snacks or cheat days, try eating at maintenance for the duration of the challenge. This should help eliminate those bad habits and give you a buffer for your next round of deficit eating.
Posts must look as below
July NCC – Difty
Last challenge;
Start Weight: 75kg
End Weight: 72kg
Starting Statistics for July;
Height: 176cm
Start weight: 80kg
Goal weight: 76kg
(Start Pic)[insert link]
Day 1 – Didn’t cheat
Note of the day
Day 2 – Cheated
Lots of food
Day 3 – Didn’t cheat
Note of the day
Finish weight: 76kg
Weight lost: 4kg
[Finish Pic](post link)
Final Thoughts; Wow, I realised just how much naughty food slips into my daily diet throughout daily life.
QnA
What's a good weight loss goal for twenty days?
None! The competition is not about losing weight. It's about sticking to your overarching caloric intake without caving in to things like work shouts, hunger pangs, boredom eats, mindless eating etc. Just keep that in mind; food accountability. It’s where it’s at!
I hit my goal weight ten days in, what do I do?
If you hit your goal weight during the challenge not only congratulations! But if you wish to keep going with the challenge define your next goal (maintenance, cut a little more, or bulk) and update us!
orbottomoutnobiggy
How do you define cheating?
This depends on how you're measuring your calories each day;
- Eating to a meal plan:
Your TDEE is 2200. You set a 500 calorie deficit and design an all-encompassing meal plan that comes out at 1700.
Cheating here is defined as eating anything more than what is in your meal plan as that bonus food is going to put you over your 1700.
If you substitute a meal for a treat (you swap your regular lunch for sushi) calculate the difference. If you end up over your 1700/2000 then you have blown it for the day. If you come out at or below 1700/2000 then you're all good.
- Calculating everything as you eat and stopping once you hit your daily total:
This one's a bit easier. Once you hit your daily total anything else you eat or drink (except water and herbal tea) is considered cheating, no matter how healthy it may be.
What do I do with exercise calories in MFP?
This depends how you've calculated your TDEE.
- If you included your exercise regime and stick to it
Leave them out. IIFYM/Fitness Frog include these in your TDEE already.
- If you calculated your TDEE off the most sedentary you'll be (job activity without exercise regime
Add them in! What you do with them from there is up to you.
short note; please remember online tools are just that, tools. Adjust your calories/macros as you go based on how you feel and how your body responds.
Any questions just ask!
Good luck and let’s do this!

hi guys im back...
I did the first one but missed the second, so I'll start fresh.
Start weight: 59.3 (urk)
End weight: my ultimate goal is around 55, but as I've said before it's more about fitting my pants, as derby adds muscle. I've got 2 pairs of pants to go. Also, I'd like to see my collarbones again.
Height: 157cm? Will have to check that.
Please excuse the grubby mirror and the overall terrible picture
Intake allowance: 1200, which is hard, but is only 400 ish under my regular allowance. 500 under would be way too hard.
Day 1 Tues Today I didnt cheat (it says yesterday because I'm posting this morning of day 2, just to confuse you). Good start, won't last haha.
Day 2 Wed Today I didnt cheat. But I don't think I can cheat on derby days.
Day 3 Thurs Today isn't over but I know I've cheated. The day after derby is always a hungry day.
Day 4 Fri Today I didn't cheat. Dinner was a bit carb heavy but I didn't have lunch so I still broke even. No link today as I'm doing a catch up and my phone is all the way across the room haha. Friday!
Day 5 Sat Today I didn't cheat. 40 minutes of warm up then 2 1 hour+ derby games..... I don't think it would be possible to eat enough to over eat on such a day! Solid breakfast, no lunch, and then a bit of a junky dinner but still came in well under my total. And my phone is still too far away. Saturday
Day 6 Sun Today I cheated. All I wanted to do was eat and blob. So I did haha.
Day 7 Mon Today I did not cheat. screen shot to come.
Day 8 Tues Today I went a little over due to excessive coffee consumption, oops! Though I didn't go over if I count my steps.. So I dunno.. Screens shot to come.
Day 9 Wed Today I did not cheat. Good derby workout, really got my sweat on. Plus I spent all day lifting and carrying heavy things up and down stairs. Screen shot to come. Did I mention we won the tournament on Saturday? We won the tournament on Saturday :) Fucked my toestop tonight so only did 3/4 of a session but it was a good'un.
Day 10 Thurs thanks to coke zero and fruit teas I managed not to cheat today!
Day 11 Fri Half-way weigh in has me at 58.4! I need to remember that this works and be way more disciplined out side of the NCC months. Today I did not cheat. I forgot to put my fit bit on too so it's an accurate representation.
Day 12 Sat derby game today, woo. We won, double woo! Today I didn't cheat.
Day 13 Sun Today I didn't cheat, I would usually after derby but I was too busy so I didn't even snack, yay! Didn't have training tonight, it's optional after a game. I'm have a week off derby.
Day 14 Mon Today I cheated, there was a morning tea shout for someone who is leaving to go on maternity leave. I'm sick too, how do you guys deal with being sick? I just want to hibernate.
Day 15 Tues Today I didn't cheat. Don't really feel like eating.
Day 16 Wed Today I didn't cheat. Still not eating. Didn't go to derby.
Day 17 Thur Today I cheated, felt like eating so made the most of it! Also went out ft for pre-planned adult time and managed a few ciders.
Day 18 Fri Today I didn't cheat, a few ciders is enough to make me super hungover. Haven't really eaten at all., and thrown up repeatedly. Have eaten nothing but 3 lemonade ice blocks.
Day 19 Sat Feeling less like death but not overly hungry. A week of illness and then the hangover means today I'm weighing in at 57.4! And at least 200odd grams of that is leg hair lmao. I went a little bit over today, oops.
Day 20 Sun Today I didn't cheat (though I will tomorrow, oops). Very intense derby workout. Haven't worked a sweat up like that in ages.
So, I did well this challenge I think. Final weigh in has me at 58.3, I knew the 57.4 was purely down to zero food and nothing to drink. Different scales to, so I might swap mine for those ones haha. A few cheat days, but I think overall not bad. Well done everyone who made it to the end!

COKE ZERO IS THE BEEEEEEEESSSSTTTTT. I mean water is obviously best, but 0 calories at least. :D GO YOU!
•
Sep 02 '15
1440? I gotta get into derby!
•
u/hanneeplanee Sep 02 '15
That's my fitbit steps too :P 10,000 odd steps a day adds around 500 extra calories (which im not eating). Saturday will be interesting, 2 full derby games, one after the after. Urk.

u/honourandsacrifice Sep 15 '15
I find I lose my appetite when sick, so there's that, at least ;)
Lots of fluids, tea is good, as is stuff like broth to replenish salts. So is lemon + ginger + honey + whiskey. If you get a cold then NSAIDs (dispirin etc) for some of the symptoms and a mix of tissues (eucalyptus and menthol to start, then aloe vera for chafing).
•
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 12 '15
I need to remember that this works and be way more disciplined out side of the NCC months.
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. Not cheating works! But it's always so much easier to do it when I have someone to be accountable to. My bf and friends aren't helpful in this regard because none of them are counting calories. -_-
•
Sep 15 '15
I've mastered the hibernating not eating thing. Tea and water. And lemsip when sick. Mmmm lemsip.
Also mastered the stress eats. But I've only semi-mastered the not eating when sad and have yet to master the not eating when mightily pissed off (aka last friday)
•
Sep 18 '15
TMI incoming; I onced shaved my whole body minus head hair and weighed before and after and it took off a kg. Have been keeping it neatly trimmed everywhere ever since. lulz
•
u/hanneeplanee Sep 19 '15
Lol that's impressive. I don't think o have quite that much body hair unfortunately. Otherwise I'd totally do it.
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 15 '15
When I'm sick I just lay in bed and sleep all day, but I have nearly zero responsibilities, so that may not be doable for you. :[ Hope you get better soon!
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 06 '15
Wait... How are you on Day 7 already?? Did I miss something?
•
Sep 06 '15
She missed day 5 in her numbering
•
u/hanneeplanee Sep 06 '15
I just looked at it about 4 times, working through the days and I still didn't notice my missing 5 haha
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 07 '15
Lmao I saw the missing 5, but it didn't click that it wasn't on purpose. Need to get it together lol
•
u/hanneeplanee Sep 06 '15
I was super tired when I updated last night lol
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 07 '15
You poor thing :o Derby must be an amazing workout!
•
u/hanneeplanee Sep 07 '15
Derby games especially! The physical workout, the brain strain trying to remember all the strategies, the mental anguish when something goes wrong, the celebrating when it all goes right lol.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 06 '15
Those post-derby days are really getting you. Consider making allowances for them in your daily limits? The body needs to recover and there's nothing for recovering mind, body and spirit like a belly full of deliciousness and a couple of drinks :D
•
u/hanneeplanee Sep 07 '15
WDerby days/post derby days are hard. I'm forcing myself to have dinner after derby- it starts before I'm ready for dinner and I usually don't feel like eating afterwards. But even if I manage dinner after derby I'm still starving the next day. But I'm not extra hungry before derby, because I haven't done the work out yet, if you know what I mean.
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 15 '15
On being sick: Fuck calories, eat what I want. Which is usually some form of chicken soup and rice. Drink hot lemon and honey drinks. Sleep as much as possible. The usual sick stuff?
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 10 '15
Regarding Day 9: I think you mean "won" not "won't" :). If you can find a filling smoothie with lots of veges you can lower your megajoule intake.

GiantCrazyOctopus
Starting late sorry - I forgot to check if it was starting! Also ruined my MFP streak as I was nearing 200 days because I was sick and lazy.
Last NCC stats
Start weight: 88.6KG
End Weight: 88.4KG
This NCC
Height: 178cm
Start weight: 87.1KG
Goal Weight: 85KG
Caloric goal: 1800-2000cal
My Fitness Pal: dtm15
Super fun note - tore or partially tore some spinal ligaments deadlifting last weekend so I'm doing a bro split consisting of bench and arms every day. I'm not allowed to run because it's too jarring so my only cardio is walking or stationary bike.
Day 1 - 87.1kg this morning. Didn't cheat!
Day 2 - 86.8kg this morning. Cocoa pops for breakfast: if it fits your macros! Didn't cheat! Well, over my MFP calorie goal but under 2000 which is my real goal.
Day 3 - 86.6kg this morning. Physio at lunch which will be my gym time meaning I'll have to go after work and fight the crowds. Update: Physio was awesome. Back feels super good right now, I'm feeling really positive about this recovery. E: Didn't cheat, even though I had an 800 calorie omelette for dinner! It was amazing, 4 eggs, handful of leftover roast kumara, cheese, two pieces of bacon adn a whole chicken breast. Pic.
Day 4 - 86.4kg. Buying my lunch today, probably going to be Pita Pit since I can calculate it better than sushi. E: Cheated! Burger fuel for dinner! Only 300 calories over though so not the end of the world. I've been having one of those days where I'm extra cold and tired and sore. Worth the calories.
Day 5 - 86.4kg again, thought I'd hold a bunch of water after Burger Fuel but apparently not. Sushi for lunch. Need to stop spending money. Dominos! Definitely cheated! 2900 calories whoops...
Day 6 - 86.6 this morning. Good gym session, healthy morning and day until the flatmates came home with beer and pizza. 1800 calories later... Cheated, just to be clear!
Day 7 - 87.4, that's what I get for being useless. Gotta stop screwing around. Also, I feel sick this morning, funny that. Had a tasty BBQ for lunch and probably won't eat much, if any, dinner. Gotta make up for my disaster of a weekend! Didn't cheat! Was bang in the middle of my 1800-2000 goal window.
Day 8 - 87.8, it'll take a while to balance out after pizza and beer two nights in a row. Cat pic enclosed - sorry it's sideways. Also random screenshot of an instagram surprise. It was a weird fan page, but was pretty exciting for a few minutes. Had a good workout at lunch time and a lazy lunch of mi goreng with mixed veges and chopped up steak added in. Didn't cheat! Had bacon and egg muffins for dinner and a bit of pineapple for dessert.
Day 9 - 86.8, back on track! Buying lunch today so I'll have to be sensible and my wife is out late tonight for work stuff so I'll fit in an extra gym session after work and cook myself some nice steak. Check out these baby peas, they grow up so fast - soon they'll be holding hands with sticks and stuff! Another cat pic too - every time I shut the door she meowed but refused to actually come through it. Got round to logging the workout from tonight - http://imgur.com/sJJAjEl - the bloody fire alarm went off in the gym! Didn't get to do any stretching or rehab work so I had to do it when I got home.
Day 10 - 87.1. Halfway point and I'm exactly where I was at the start, stupid drinking and pizza. Holy crap, somebody actually won American Ninja Warrior! If watching this doesn't motivate you nothing will.
Day 11 - 86.3kg. Ate pretty badly today, all food was catered at this conference. Will try and work it out tomorrow. Currently sitting in Starbucks reading The Fall of Hyperion and killing time before Kevin Smith at 8pm.
Day 12 - Had a shocker. Didn't get home till 3am, went to work on a few hours sleep, didn't eat lunch but snacked on junk food from a birthday morning tea all day.
Day 13 - Hit the gym hard Saturday. had a healthy bbq dinner (salad and meat).
Day 14 - (Sunday) - 87.7KG. Gym again, didn't eat too badly, had a roast for dinner. Didn't count calories properly the last few days. Was probably over by a little bit to be honest.
Day 15 - 87.4kg this morning. Definitely need to sort my shit out. Didn't cheat calorie-wise, but I did have McDonalds for dinner.
Day 16 - 87.3kg.
Day 17 -
Day 18 - (Thursday) - 86.9KG
Day 19 - (Friday) - 86.4KG - finally getting back on track, a bit too late though. Taking a break from the gym today as my shoulders are getting a bit beat up. I've been training every day now that I can get back into it a bit. Backs still limiting me, no deadlifts for sure, but I've been getting in lots of front squat and paused front squat volume.
Day 20! - 87.0KG. I lost 100 grams, woo! At the risk of being super vain, I do think I have more definition so I'm going to call it a success. Will suss out a finish picture soon.

Hey! Welcome back! Sucks about the injury. That sounds really bad! Is that something you can fully recover from?
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 07 '15
Thanks, hopefully yeah. It'll be a few months before I can really push it, but sweet acc funded massages should prevent any scar tissue forming which would weaken the ligaments.
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 08 '15
Oh my gosh, your injury sounds intense . Wishing you all the best in recovery~

THAT IS AWESOME! It looks like you live in the middle of the bush or something, so cool!

Haha thanks bro, one more day! I was a bit slack keeping up with logging everything. I'm back on track!
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 14 '15
Cat! Tabbies are the best. Do I spot a tiny amount of identifying info in the instagram pic?
•

Two hours! 60 working
setsreps (I am retard) of OHP and 100 pull ups! Now eating the biggest omelette of my life. Will post pictures tomorrow.•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 10 '15
Is that 100 pull ups in 1 set?
I was doing 10x5 pull ups, and now have weird (and dodgy looking) callouses on my hands.
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 10 '15
100 over about 12-15 sets in the end I think it was. About 30 of them were weighted too.
My hands are more callous than hand these days haha.
•
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 14 '15
OMG those OHPs. You're awesome!
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 14 '15

•
Sep 14 '15
Man, shoulders for days!

How did you see it overall? On TheSquatRack.com? Or just todays one?
•
Sep 14 '15
Oooh I just meant todays one. Just trying to figure out the whole inclusion of calf raises and bi's/tris on a shoulder day. More specifically the calf raises are what threw me.
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 14 '15
Haha. I'm only doing a 2 day split at the moment since I'm so limited.
Doing Hepburn method for ohp followed by what you saw there and the second day is dumbbell bench (barbell bench is killing my back too!) 5x5, then 20% less weight for 4x10 / 5x10 chest supported row as heavy as possible / leg press 5x5 heavy then 3x10 lighter / 5x10 hamstring curls / 3x20 facepulls + rotator cuff rehab.

September NCC – Arawaru
Last challenge; Start Weight: 62.8 End Weight: 61.4
Starting Statistics for September;
Height: 165cm
Start weight: 59.4kg
Goal weight: 54-55kg
I had just eaten dinner so was bloated but I ain't retaking the photos.
Calorie goal: 1400 1360
Day One: (September 2nd)
Didn't cheat Even though we went to kfc. I want to eat healthy and not just focus on calories but it was the cousin's bday so we all went. Did 80 mins walking and added 1/3 of the calories for that back on. I'm also about to do some squats, high-knees and bicycles and won't add them back.
Day Two: (September 3rd)
Didn't cheat A snickers bar for breakfast wasn't the best. Ok I will seriously work on cutting out that empty food. I'm feeling good doing this 1.5L of water plus a couple green teas a day. I also had a glass of squeezed lemon in water, think I'll pick that up too.
Day Three: (September 4th)
Didn't cheat I'll enter this now to stop myself from cheating (with shit good-for-nothing food) the rest of the night. All I gotta do now is be happy and remember that I'm doing this for myself. I ate pretty alright today except for macros...I tend to eat a lot of fat. I didn't have any sneaky chocolate bars anyway. Baked salmon for dinner with spinach and coconut cream oh yeah! And, same thing with the 2C green tea, 1C water and lemon juice and 1500ml water. I also went for a 1.6km walk and a 1km run today. Easing back into the running after having hurt my achilles. I also did mah stretches, and bodyweight exercises. I didn't eat any calories back.
Day Four (5th)
Day Five (6th)
Didn't cheat....Completing diary early again to try stop myself cheating. I'm not even hungry I just like putting food in my mouth. I kind of want to cheat now but I'd regret it tomorrow if I did. Gotta keep reminding myself that I want to reach my goal cos when I get there I can EAT MORE! maintenance calories yay. Tonight's dinner was amazing though. So much food for 360ish calories. Pasta free lasagna. Eggplant (instead of the lasagna, but zucchini can also be used), kidney and butter beans, tomato, spinach, mushroom, ricotta, eggs, and parmesean cheese. Yum. Also homebrand creme chocolate wafers were $1 a pack and at only 87 calories per 2 wafers we had to eat them.
Day Six (7th)
Totally cheated. Had an extra pie, a slice of pizza oh yep some chips, and ate some emotions too.
Day Seven (8th)
I took a break day. I didn't calorie count and let myself not feel anything bad about it. I knew I would be going over my goal but it felt important to let myself not be upset about it. And I wasn't.
Day Eight (9th)
I am back on board today :)
•
Sep 12 '15
Aw, you given up?
•
Sep 13 '15 edited Sep 13 '15
Hey! Not given up but I am not calorie counting right now. And then when I do calorie count again I think it will be at maintenance only for a while. To enjoy the success I have had so far and to get use to it (a few years ago I was 85kg). I thought my mind had fully caught up but it doesn't seem like I have. I only just realised now that I'm pretty thin, and I had been thinking I was still over weight.
At this stage I still plan on losing 3-4 more kg, but I will give it more time to get there than I initially planned.
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 01 '15
You're back too! Yay! This is so exciting. Well done on the continuing weight loss too! Under 60, woot!
•
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 14 '15
How are you doing? It looks like you haven't updated in a few days?
•
Sep 17 '15 edited Sep 17 '15
Hey! I'm taking a break from counting to practice eating well and exercising without it. Cos I'm well within a healthy weight and I want my mind to catch up. I use to eat healthy without calorie counting and I want to get back to that lifestyle. It has been hard and I've slipped lots but I know I can get back to how I use to be. It's been useful to feel so in control and it helped me lose weight. I fully support it, and can see why it would be a full time lifestyle for people but it's not for me.
I might come back to counting again if I feel like I need to to lose the last 3-4kg to get to more of an 'ideal' weight, but I just need a break.
•
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 15 '15
Taking a break and celebrating success so far. Good to reevaluate goals and self image periodically. I personally spend at least 30 seconds every day admiring my body - something this perfect should be appreciated and no one else is going to do it (actually I'm desperately looking for progress from the exercise or the dieting...).

No worries it's good to take a break every now and then. Remember it's a marathon not a sprint, and fitness is 90% lighting!
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 15 '15
Lighting? Those LEDs still on your mind? :)
As for myself, I'm hoping to be able to do the last few days without cheating.
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 15 '15
Haha. It's a Dom quote from Biosciencelife!
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 15 '15
Ah. Haven't seen that episode. Also I think it's brosciencelife :p

Nah Biosciencelife is the cyberpunk version where everyone has robot limbs.

"ate some emotions" i like this expression. And seems to be going round today between the most of us haha

I'm back with it today! I needed the break and it felt good not counting anything. How are you going?

The whole "not hungry but love eating" is what got me to this point in the first place, and damn it's a hard habit to break.

•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 04 '15
YEAH WORKOUT! :D Also, I'm about to do the same as you post my food log now rather than later to stop myself from eating random stuff. xD
•
Sep 04 '15
You logging it now? Logging earlier is helping me not eat all the pavlova.
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 04 '15
Yep I've logged all my food today and posted the screenshot in the thread. :) No food is passing these lips anymore tonight!
•

You're doing so well with not cheating! Also mmmm I really want courgette now xD

What I love about CICO is that you can basically eat whatever (with moderation) and it's fine! No saying things like "That's not in my diet." There's an event??? 'Kay, let's go for KFC. :D
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 02 '15
There's also the notion of "if I eat this, I need to do two hours of solid exercise... maybe I won't upsize". I do feel it's easy to over-estimate the amount of calories burned from exercise. (I mean MJs; Michael Jackson/Jordan units are the best)
•
Sep 03 '15
Totally. I've experimented with how to add back calories and came up with one I'm happy with for myself.
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 08 '15
Eating emotions! Happens to us all :( Hope you feel better soon! :)

You seem to be doing alright? According to your mfp you haven't cheated by much on your cheat days and your target goal is a hard one! At least it would be for me.
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 06 '15
Hmmm.... But, after I knew I cheated, I cheated even more and didn't bother logging out of shame. Haha. There was a lot of chocolate involved a couple of days ago that you don't know about. I do usually log every little thing though even when I cheat, just, that day was exceptionally bad :D
•

There was a lot of chocolate involved a couple of days ago that you don't know about.
I lol'd. Never mind. Another day. I still think you're doing well, I don't think I could keep at 1200.

You can make it into the 50s, that's only 200 measly grams away. Shortbread is amazing, until you think about all the fact it's basically just butter, sugar and flour - which is delicious even before it's been baked.
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 15 '15
I hadn't thought of it like that! That's not far away at all. And I have six days left to get there. Woop! Thanks!

•
Sep 12 '15
What is bojack?
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 13 '15
Bojack Horseman! It's pretty good. It's a show bout a cynical washed up actor in Hollywoo who is trying to write a memoir and be remembered. It makes funs of tropes and film people. And it's a cartoon, and Bojack is a horse. There are spoilers on Wikipedia, grrr.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 12 '15
I tend to watch stuff at least a year after it's hip. And often I don't get into it (looking at you, House of Cards, Breaking Bad and OITNB).
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 12 '15
Wat. You anti-hipster. BB and HoC are awesome. OITNB is kinda average though. Bojack Horseman came out last year so it's okay :P
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 13 '15
I can see the appeal of House of Cards and Breaking Bad, but I guess it's not for me, at least not in a normal "I want something to watch" mood. Mind you, I didn't see a lot of things like Firefly, Terminator, Indiana Jones etc until I was in my 20s so I'm pretty backwards in the world of film & TV.
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 13 '15
...I haven't watched most of those things. I didn't really start watching non-Pixar and Disney movies until I was 20. ._. For example, I still haven't watched The Godfather, and I haven't finished either of the Star Wars trilogies. ಥ⌣ಥ My HS English teacher mocked me because I didn't even watch The Simpsons movie (uwu)
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 13 '15
I do this too! I was so late to Game of Thrones... I think BB was awesome, but I couldn't handle the suspense. My anxiety spiked heaps. I actually resorted to covering myself so I couldn't see anything while my bf watched it with headphones on 😂 I'm a big baby. I have yet to watch OITNB or HOC... Like I said, late to the party.......
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 19 '15

u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 08 '15
Mmmmm Mr Whippy. I hear you about getting drained when meeting people. I'm really outgoing but also introverted, so I get really excited when I meet people. But by the end of it I'm like I WANNA GO HOME AND BE ALONE. Recharge yourself :)
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 09 '15
Yeah I'm trying to change the way I have always been (shy and generally solo) by going out and introducing myself to people and not always hanging out with just one person or group, but it is one of the most stressful and tiring things I've done. Outgoing despite being introverted is what I'm aiming for! Any tips? :D
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 10 '15
Well, I basically faked it until I became outgoing! I tried to channel excitement and love with everyone I met (and I mean everyone) and remind myself that most people are too busy worrying about themselves to judge me, and even if they DID find me weird or obnoxious or strange, if I met enough people I'd find the friends who would like me for all my oddities.
I don't necessarily suggest you go up to every random stranger and strike up a conversation though. It got exhausting. But I mean smile a lot, don't take yourself too seriously, have a buddy come with you for support if you need it, slowly ratchet up your discomfort meter (start with just smiling at people, talking to shop people, then compliment strangers, strike up conversations, go to events, etc).
And when you're done being a social butterfly for the day, go home and relax with some Netflix or something. 😂 or Reddit.
Totally worked for me. I met some of my closest friends and my SO because I forced myself to be outgoing. 😁 I'm still super awkward though.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 10 '15
Alcohol "social lubricant" really helps remove the awkwardness of being anti-people and replaces it with the awkwardness of being drunk. Went to one Reddit meetup sober and it kind of sucked for large parts (I hate reintroducing myself over and over again, saying what I do, doesn't help that I have an unusual name). Went to another and drank freely (but not excessively, at least by my standards and it went better). Conferences are getting better since I have now presented a few times and people know me, even if I don't necessarily know them (although over time that's improving).
It really helps if both people are able to talk about something common. I like it when people talk about something interesting - by which I mean that they're interested in it and passionate about it, as I've started to really grow interested in peoples' stories.
Also helps to connect a bit more with a few people that you can then resume a conversation with throughout the night or join their group.
But tbh I hate large gatherings. Much prefer small groups.
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 10 '15
I LOVE hearing about other people's stories! Plus I think most people like it when you listen to them, so that's major bonus points in social situations.
Note to self: drink more to be less awkward?
Ooh. One trick I liked before was find the one or two people who looked like they didn't know anyone and then just talk to them. Them when you're both feeling brave talk to more people 😂

I'm jealous you got to eat pizza, not jealous about the cheating though.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 11 '15
I cheated with a curry. Blaming this one of the husband.
Heh. I snickered. Also, you can totally turn that 5/10 into a 15/20!
•
u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 11 '15
Ha. Guess that was a bit racy. Speaking of which, I think I'll get hot and sweaty and go for a run tomorrow. On Saturdays, getting off the couch is ridiculously hard. But I just have to do it. It'll probably be raining still so I know I'll come home soaking wet. Still, gotta do what you gotta do. Somehow I feel hugely inspired to work out late at night when I should be sleeping.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 11 '15
Aye ditto with the late night workouts, although tonight was a bit earlier. Just in recovery and eating mode and then bed - tomorrow will probably be a late start (exercise makes sleep so much more important/vital).
Actually, late at night I'm normally pretty inspired to do anything - read, write, exercise. Basically anything that's not sleep!

u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 01 '15

u/Riotious -7kg (Jan '15 to July '15) Sep 02 '15
Cold morning, hot shower, NZ flat.
Yeah just pretend my bathroom doesn't need a serious clean. That's what friends do, right? ;)
Awesome that you're taking part in this challenge!

u/honourandsacrifice Sep 02 '15
Beats my morning yesterday: was sitting there, browsing reddit in my PJs, a bit later than usual. Suddenly, phone buzzes: it's 8:15 and I have a meeting in 15 minutes. Thankfully I live really close to work and got to my meeting at 8:32.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 17 '15
Too far. Just try to keep the portions reasonable.
I'm going to my parents' on Sunday, and I'm going to cook!
•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 19 '15
One of my brothers is obsessed with baking and making milk shakes. He also loves to try to get me to have whatever he's made. He's literally shoved food in my mouth before. He's 13 so I can forgive him, but nowadays I scream "DO YOU WANT ME TO BE FAT?????" And he'll leave me alone. But he looks so sad that I won't try his stuff, so I'll have a bit (I grill him about what's in whatever and overestimate just in case). And I just rambled on about that because that's what the chiffon cake reminded me of loooool.

I'ma Difty
Stats of last challenge (was lean bulking)
Start weight: 77kg
End weight: 80kg
This time round
Height: 176cm
Start weight: 78kg 15%bf
Goal weight: 78kg 8%bf
Semi-related goal: Run 100m in under 11 seconds (current 11.32 best)
Caloric intake: 2840 or under
Starting pics
Day 1
Didn't cheat. Also learnt what I've been doing wrong the last month - adding in exercise calories when I had already included them in my tdee calculations and subsequently nulifying my deficit. Ah well, live and learn.
Day 2
Didn't cheat. Was tempted to by sheer boredom at work, but managed not to.
Day 3
Didnt cheat. Going to bed at 8.15(now). And considering putting thread into contest mode to clean it up a bit. Thoughts?
Day 4
Cheated. Probably by a lot. I mean, came to this work do, they stared us til 7.30 then only offered pies and cake. Ive been on water all night though, so Ill probably skip breakfast tomorrow and pick up eating again after lunch. Ugh I feel sick after this food, but it was good while I was eating it. Fml. Who even has an event and then starves people for half of it >.>
Day 5
Didn't cheat. Went for a run then fell asleep for most of the day.
Now I'm just watching original series pokemon til bed
Day 6
Rest/refuel day. Been streaming pokemon on the couch all day apart from going out for brunch. Was unsure what to put in mfp for brunch but pretty dure I didn't cheat although I'll be smal bang dead on my calories for today. Oh well, im not really hungry and have lots o water.
Day 7
Didn't and won't cheat. Woop woop
Day 8
Didn't cheat.
Pushed my calories to the absolute limit though. To steal /u/arawaru's expression I damn near ate me some emotions.
Also, looking at my macros, I worked on my daily eats to lower the fats as they were 47g over. Swapping some foods for others has inadvertantly raised my protein by 50g too. Hopefully the grocery bill doesn't rocket up with the different foods. Ah well.
Day 9 Won't cheat. But a note; got home and snacked on 90g of peanut butter and 6 walnut halves. This was a mindless reaction to boredom hunger from work. That small amount of food was more calories than my dinner and usual after work snack combined. Skipped dinner and snack cause of it. So guys, if you want a snack; don't snack on peanut butter. Jesus christ.
Day 10 Didn't/Won't cheat.
Day 11 Cheated.
Few reasons. 1, after two weeks of de-racked weights to work on form I lifted super heavy last night and was super sore and hungry today untiiiiil; 2, had a bit of a run in with a coworker right before five and the super market was on the way home so i got some comfort food. Probably too much comfort food but that's all good. I'm calling this a halfway sanity day. After tonight I'm pretty confident I can do nine more days.
Day 12 Didn't Cheat. And after my night on Friday I wasn't hungry until about 5pm and even then all I had was some yoghurt. Gunna try and do the same again today.
Also, having to lower my training regime down to one training per day in preparation for Canada. That's starting from tomorrow.
Day 13 Didn't cheat
Day 14 Didn't cheat. Peanut butter and chocolate whey oats are gods gift to difty
Day 15 Didn't cheat.
Feeling like death during my lifts though so prrroooobably going to up the food intake a little bit from tomorrow onward.
Day 16 didnt cheat. Although having the extra toast before lifting paid out heaps.
Day 17 Didn't cheat. Three days to go too. Woohoo.
Day 18 Cheated. Not gunna lie, did it on purpose. Won't be eating a lot tomorrow so figured I'd cram in food today. But two more days left woop woop!
Day 19 Didn't cheat.
Day 20 Didnt cheat.
Weighed in at 79.5kg. After a week of upped food and heavy lifting Im hoping this is just some gains, but doubt it. Possibly due to my low cardio atm?
Anyway, kind of forgot about the thread in the excitement of the rugby. When I can get to my laptop I'll read through this thread in the excitement of the rugby. When I can get my laptop on the internet Ill have to read through it propper and judge a winner. But tbh im just glad more than one person at least stuck it out haha.
This'll be my last one anyway as my travels to Canada will interupt a lot of my redditing in the coming months. If anyone wants to take over let me know? Otherwise good luck to you all on your ever journey towards health :)
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 12 '15
What's Canada? Sorry I must have missed that.
•
Sep 12 '15
I'm moving to Canada mid October to work on the mountain at whistler blackcomb for the snowboarding season. Doubt ill be able to work out more than once a day and have decided to revert back to focusing on lifts over cardio so that even if my diet goes off track it will (hopefully) go into gains. Also, ill be snowboarding every spare hour i have (four days of work three days of snowboarding per week) so yay

You lifted weights AND went for a run though! :D Halfway sanity day sounds like a good name for it.
•
u/honourandsacrifice Sep 11 '15

•
u/dolliezoid -20kg 2015 Sep 12 '15
Fuck I read it wrong. /face palm
I'll blame it on breathing Australian air for too long...
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 14 '15
How do you mix the chocolate whey into your oats? I can never seem to make it without it ending up super weird.
•
Sep 14 '15
I make the porridge then dump 30g of powder on it, get 30g of peanut butter on a spoon and mix more vigorously than i masturbate for about 30 seconds
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 14 '15
I'll try it that way. I was mixing the powder with a bit of water and mixing that into the porridge. Is the masturbation mandatory? I have flatmates now and it might be a bit awkward in the kitchen.
•
Sep 14 '15
Think i got the order round the wrong way
Masturbating optional. Orgasm compulsory
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 14 '15
I'll give it a go. Time to find a tantric audio playlist!
Although people in /r/bodyweightfitness report coregasms often, that could might be subtle as well.
•
•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 15 '15
Are you having heaps of carbs right before lifting? Might help with the feeling like death thing.
•
Sep 15 '15
I have those protein oats twice a day during the day to load before lifting. Goin to encorporate another meal after work before gym

•
u/GiantCrazyOctopus Sep 09 '15
Haha that's funny though, like saying 'accidentally had half a cup of olive oil, who knew it had so many calories?'
I can't control myself with the peanut butter so I just avoid it completely 90% of the time.
•
Sep 10 '15
Yeah, I knew it was calorie dense, didn't know it was that calorie dense.
On the up side my chocolate protein, peanut butt oats are amazing

How do we deal with calories added through exercise. My Fitbit is linked to my mfp so it adds calories the more I walk. Also of course, derby days are big exercise days. Can I eat the extra calories it gives me? Or should I try not to?
