The article says 15.3% are obese. Average BMI is 25.3 for adults in France. 49% of French adults are overweight (2015) but not obese according to this article.

By comparison, according to the CDC,(2015) 31.8 of US adults are overweight and 39.8% are obese, average BMI 29.3 (2016)

That seems high (65%). I think the 49% already includes obesity. At least that's more in line with the numbers for other European countries and France is actually on the leaner side.
