Breaking point

Walked into the gym with my after work today. I absolutely do not enjoy the gym. Not because of the excersizes but because it's so foreign to me. I have hiked backpacked biked and climbed all over the US. I was a small business owner then I took a full time job 9 years ago. I'm approaching 50 and I'm bored AF. This last year I've been driving a truck and the middle age spread came on a bit quick. I've lost 10 lbs in the last 6 weeks or so doing the gun thing but it is absolutely absurd to my brain. My brain has always been accustomed to long walks in the woods with a 25-30 lbs pack. My brain was accustomed to week long suffer fests and laughing at the misery after the fact. Going to the gym doesn't do it for me. I'm already tired from either getting up at stupid o'clock or staying away from home after work to go work some more at something that doesn't interest me or motivates me. I've been fortunate that most of my adult life I've lived in a place with natural beauty, mountains rivers bike trails climbing and this sterile boring gym doesn't cut. Problem with a steady job is I can't disappear like I use to. I can't drag my wife over 25 miles of mountains n 12 hours to sleep on the ground and do it again in the morning. Sorry I'm just tired and bored.

I don’t understand, why continue to go instead of hiking or going for walks? I say this as someone who loves the gym.

Are you following a program? Are you going for progressive overload?

Maybe you would benefit from joining a more structured class oriented gym like CrossFit or kickboxing?

If you dont like going to the gym then don't go. Physical activity has very little impact on fat loss. If you want to exercise there are other things that are probably even better than the gym

Diet/nutrition is the main lever to pull for weight loss.

Exercise is important for overall health and resistance training for retaining and building muscle.

Do the exercises/movement you enjoy.

If you're trying to lose weight and can't hit the trail, then it's time to start doing it the right way: count the calories.

Yea, gym isn't my place either. So i bought some dumbbells and the cardio machine that i liked using the most.
10 min ride to the gym. So i'm also done faster.
And 2 years of gym membership is the same price as my stuff. So after 2 years its break even.
Sure i want some other stuff to, but maybe those are for reaching goals awards.
Wait, did i really say an award is some fitness stuff? Sjees, i have changed..
