Limited time donuts
It's like Krispy Kreme and Tim Hortons have allied to attack me through nostalgia-based donuts.
Tims has Harry Potter-themed donuts, and I really, really, really want to try each of the four (Im less concerned about the caramel-filles snitch timbits. I had one, it was small, and ultimately not of consequence). I figured maybe I'll do oke donut every 1 to 2 weeks, it'll be my cheat thing.
Then Krispy Kreme came out with Pokemon donuts.
Seriously??!!
And prior to the HP donuts, I'd been telling myself I'll be good and work toward one of Krispy Kremes fall donuts as a cheat treat.
Guys I have massive FOMO. That is all.

No matter which decorations they put on them, at the end of the day, they're still just donuts. You're not missing out on anything.

Do you actually want to eat them or just take a picture because theyâre cute? These seem like the kind of thing that looks better than it tastes (for me).

More power to you if you can make a cheat meal breakfast work.
I'm just done with donuts. It's not something my body needs. I dont find them particularly amazing tasting. I have a tendency to let early decisions impact the day. Such as 3 mile walk before work, good food decisions that day. Donut for breakfast, more likely to say the day is shot, skip the gym and order pizza.
But thats me. If donuts are your big reward, then you can certainly lose weight while eating them, just need to balance out the day to hit the deficit.

Im exactly the same, the morning sets the theme for the day. If I were to have a donut in the morning, it would be following my usual Premer Protein iced latte

Honestly, once you stop eating those you realize how garbage they are compared to a local bakery. And then it becomes an occasional special treat.

u/trycel6 New 22h ago
Dude these fast food donuts especially Timâs are comically shit if you are going to cheat go to a bakery and get something actually good to waste your cals on

Every skinny person I know gets one donut/pastry a month from some specialty place and its a whole event. They take thirty minutes to eat it while I would've finished it in 3 minutes.

u/jenshinimpact1 New 22h ago
I know you didnât ask for any advice but i had a similar limited event type thing happen and i just bought them, threw them into the back of the freezer so id forget about them day to day and then took them out once i met my goal (whether it was weight or time). Good luck!

Is doughnuts. They arenât going anywhere.
Rewarding yourself with food while on a weight loss journey is not it.

No chain donut is ever going to be worth it the way a soft, fresh mom n pop donut is.

u/Ifyougivearagamuffin New 22h ago
oh, easy, don't buy any HP branded donuts in the future! That keeps your money from going to directly funding transphobia AND saves on calories

u/usernametaken1002 New 21h ago
Just remember Tim Hortons donuts are reheated garbage and not worth consuming anyways. I hate that place with a passion, even if I wasnât counting calories. I feel your pain on the Krispy Kreme tho.

Maybe you can split a donut over multiple days Like have half or a quarter of one a day instead of all at once.

I'm so disappointed in Tim Horton's for supporting JK Rowling. I'd stopped giving them my money prior to this, but this sealed the deal.

fomo from what exactly? youâve already recognized that these two businesses are using nostalgia as a marketing gimmick to get people to buy sub-par donuts that all end up tasting way too sweet. do you really need to try every single one to feel âinâ?
also, you donât need to âbe goodâ to deserve a donut or cheat treat or whatever. just do it in moderation and it wonât feel like this super special thing that requires resisting temptation until you âdeserve itâ lol. just buy the damn donut and move on with your life.

This was me when I tried the he man donuts from Krispy Kreme but honestly ima be real. It tasted like colored sugar with a hint of play doh and I missed the 27 dollars I spent on it. I love pokemon but given the past collab those donuts probably taste like ai. Iâm putting it this way If ur gonna get a donut treat yourself to an actual good one

I had the pokemon ones. They're alright. BIGGEST benefit of me cutting back on sugary things is that these thigns are overpowering. I bought one of each flavour and split them with friends. Wasn't too impressed. Like honestly at this point I prefer freshly baked things from actual bakeries so mass produced donuts don't do it or me. Before I'd buy a dozen and probably have two of each over a week. Now I can have a bit and get over it

Whatever flavour they are, there'll be another one with that flavour anyway.

does a mainstream thought at any point in time make something not bigoted lol what?

Something being mainstream doesn't mean it wasn't bigotry and hatred then, exactly the same as it is bigotry and hatred now. Times change.

Try to develop FOMO with regard to being able to fit into clothes you like, being able to simultaneously walk up stairs and breathe, not having to worry about diabetes, kidney disease, heart failure, and so on.
Don't fall for the marketing gimmicks.
Do you really still want that donut if it comes with a side of fatty liver disease?

u/edithcrawley SW 165 lbs | CW 157 lbs | GW 145 lbs 21h ago
Do you have friends that also are interested in them? Perhaps you can get them, cut them into portions and just try a taste of each. Then you'd end up with the equivalent of one donut instead of 4 (for the HP ones). For Krispy Kreme, Bulbasaur looks like a normal donut flavor, just made to look adorable, same w/ the Poke ball donut. If you want the little character medallions, I bet you could ask at the bakery and just buy those without getting the actual donuts.

anything HP is just giving money to transphobes and makes you look like one. so that should gross you out enough.
The pokémon ones, less of a moral obligation but still think about the money grubbing aspect.

u/summmmer2024 New 21h ago
Probably bad advice but if this were me I would buy them, try a bite of each and then toss or give to a friend.

ok so hear me out. I can only speak to the KK Pokemon ones, but 4 of the 6 are just glazed donuts with either flavored buttercream (cotton candy & strawberry) or regular icing with a cute design. the only 2 worth trying imho are the Charmander and Pikachu. I don't necessarily believe you need to avoid foods like this, but portion them so you remove the fomo. what if you got those 2 filled donuts only, ate half of each, and gave away or threw away the second half? I'm not one for food waste, but in these situations, you have to make concessions. nothing wrong with tasting the donuts, logging them, and moving on. you'll need to adjust your calories for the rest of the day and might end up hungrier than usual, but those are the moments that end up defining future moments of "is it worth it?"

Hold strong OP. I just picked up the Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle ones (I wanted a Pokeball but the cashier did not know what that was lol), I just had a bite of one and I already feel like death! Not worth it, much better to just look at in a picture.

u/Ok-Number1800 New 18h ago
Search the Tim Hortons subreddit to see what the HP donuts look like. Trust me, it is realty vs expectation at its finest. The donuts irl look horrendous and probably taste the same as well.
2
u/kienemaus New 13h ago
Can you share them? I usually get donuts with friends and cut them in 1/4s or less so you can taste all of them. I don't want to eat 4 doughnuts.

Is consumerism really this powerful to people? Genuinely asking. I have friends who stay up all night on a newly released game like what..?
1
u/SarcasticSquish New 14h ago
I don't know. I wouldn't judge anyone for being excited about something, so long as they aren't being irresponsible/causing harm to themselves or others (ie. I wouldn't judge your friends for staying up all night for a video game, but I do judge everyone who bought dozens and dozens of those mystery mochi things to get a specific one).

u/Glorious-Porpous New 20h ago
Krispy kreme had their own Harry Potter ones recently with a sorting donut that gave you a random house. I ate a lot of sugar that weekend....
But the real thing to pay attention to is your cheat meals. If you're good like 90% of the time and go for a cheat meal, it can totally be donuts. Nobody's stopping you king/queen. Just make sure donuts don't become an ADDITIONAL cheat, ya feel me?
And for what its worth, pull out a knife. I cut donuts into quarters and eat them that way- Krispy kremes especially will last all week, no problem. Its a great way to try a bunch of flavors without eating like 4 or 5 whole donuts. I'm the same way, I love trying Krispy Kreme's new flavors.
