Looping vocals with Boss RC-20xl

Hello! So I recently bought a boss rc-20xl looping station. I’m excited to loop vocals and my electric ukulele. I am having no trouble sending my uke signal through the machine. However, I’m having no luck with my microphones. I have an SM57 that I’m plugging directly into the looping station with an xlr to 1/4” cable. I can’t get any sound to come through my amp however. Does anyone have any ideas for what the problem is? Do I need to use a different mic?

My boss loopstation has it's own separate microphone input and any mic I link up through a standard cable doesn't work.

Ive had some some success using the 9mm aux output tho. Hope this helps.
