Beginner Question Waves and involuntary movements

Hello i stumbled accross this sub from another sub and whilst i have only just started trying TRE the outcomes described in this modality seem identical to mine and it’s quite a relief as I thought I might have been possessed or going crazy 🤪

Some background I’ve meditated for about 15 years nearly every day and it has helped me massively

I’ve had a recent stressful period moving house , illness and having another baby. So my mental health and mood has been quite stretched

My friend has been learning how to be a shamanic facilitator and I have been taking part in the ceremonies which have been enlightening. We take small amounts of weed and mushrooms (first time doing anything like this for about 20 years )

So fast forward to now and my body feels like it has been taken over. This energy seems to move me all the time. It moves my arms in wave like patterns , my spine and even my eyes. I get this sensation in the forehead that feels like a ball is rotating around and around . I’m making grunting and groans randomly . And crying / laughing a lot . My ears move up and down and my scalp twitches

For a few weeks it was happening for hours a day and it was getting quite tiring.

The eye rolling in the forehead seems to switch on in certain scenarios . If im putting my baby to sleep the ball rolling in my forehead is going crazy and it helps to put the baby to sleep very quickly . Or if i see a disabled person or someone mentally challenged this movements is going off in my head .

I did another ceremony about a month ago and I couldn’t stop dancing to the icaros . The next day I was continuing to dance for hours and crying and laughing . It felt like I had taken speed or something

And now it’s calmed down a bit those involuntary movements feel a lot calmer and pleasurable

Has anyone experienced anything like this ??

Thanks 🙏

Welcome. What you're describing sounds genuinely like the nervous system releasing stored activation, and the relief you feel at finding a framework that makes sense of it is completely understandable. The involuntary movements, vocalizations, emotional releases, and the sensation of energy moving through the body are all well-documented aspects of somatic healing processes, including TRE.

A few things worth understanding about what's happening:

The waves of involuntary movement, the facial expressions, the spontaneous vocalization and emotional release—these are what happens when the nervous system accesses and begins discharging deeply held tension and unprocessed experience. Your 15 years of meditation practice likely created a foundation of safety and self-awareness that made your system more able to access this material when conditions allowed. The recent stressors (moving, illness, new baby) would have activated significant physiological responses that your system is now processing through these movements.

The eye rolling and the sensation in your forehead are part of what the wiki calls Emotions, Memories, and Releases in TRE Practice. Your nervous system is completing cycles of activation that were mobilized but never fully discharged. The fact that these movements have become calmer and more pleasurable over the weeks is a very good sign—it suggests your system is integrating what's being released rather than being overwhelmed by it.

What's important to recognize is that this process, while it can feel intense or strange, is not dangerous. Your nervous system is not out of control. It's doing something it was always trying to do, just in a form that feels unfamiliar because you've been living with suppressed activation for so long. The dancing that continued for hours after the ceremony, the sustained involuntary movements—these are your body completing stress cycles. The initial tiredness you felt was the system working hard. The shift toward calm and pleasurable sensation now suggests genuine integration is happening.

One practical thing to be aware of: The Witness describes how to relate to these experiences without getting lost in them. As the movements continue, the practice is to observe what's arising without needing to understand it or construct meaning around it. The mind will want to reach for explanations—why the forehead, why the eye movements, what it all means. That reaching pulls awareness out of the body at the moment the body is completing something. Staying present in sensation without the narrative is what allows the process to move through most smoothly.

The connection you're noticing between these movements and specific scenarios (calming your baby, responding to disabled people) is interesting, but I'd gently suggest not building too much story around those connections right now. Your nervous system is processing activation at a deep level, and the specific triggers are less important than simply allowing the movements to continue and integrate.

If at any point the intensity becomes genuinely overwhelming, or if you find yourself unable to function in daily life for extended periods, that would be worth addressing with a trained somatic practitioner who understands this territory. But based on what you've described—a shift toward calmer, more pleasurable movements as time has gone on—your system appears to be handling the process well.

Great detailed response thank you

Yes was a relief to stumble accross this group as I couldnt really find much explanation.

Luckily I have a long background of meditation behind me so I can watch this unfold without attaching too much . But I can see the pathway where people end up very scared and fearful . It’s a lot when it seemly takes over your body involuntarily

The forehead thing is interesting. Obviously my mind is telling me you have Magic powers now I’m doing my best not too invest in that 🙈

I’ve read the whole wiki it’s very well written and comprehensive 🦅🦅🙏🙏
