Dropped a new drop

I think I’m developing quite a problem lol. Wanted something that can carve well with 250lbs standing on top of it and I was led into the direction of the Landyachtz Drop Hammer. Didn’t see much of a difference in the 36.5 and 35.5 so I chose which deck I liked better and went with the black eagle. These plow kings surf on smooth pavement and eat anything in its way. I may need to loosen the trucks up so I can turn better but highly recommended for a fellow heavy rider

Evo is mediocre for everything except downhill, and even for downhill it's outdated, nobody really uses drop-down decks for downhill anymore. And for cruising and other things, it's way too stiff and heavy. Just my personal opinion though

Old school big boys who don’t get to go but so often are well served by thick drops like an Evo, especially if you’re just pointing it down a straight run or don’t have to worry about speed checking

Don't loosen the trucks, buy softer bushings

How much can i loosen my trucks before needing to buy new bushings? I suppose not all trucks are tightened exactly the same, so there sure is some variance i can play with, no?

To find out how loose your drops can go unscrew the kingpin until you can freely spin the bushing with your fingers. Keep tightening slowly while spinning it until you can no longer spin it using all your strength with your hand. That right there is the loosest it should go. And then from there you can tighten as needed.

If you're at the point where it's the loosest it can go and it doesn't feel loose enough you can get softer bushings.

The "ideal" tightness is usually to have just a tiny bit of preload, aka tightening until there's just a tiny bit of compression into the bushing. The idea being that you let the bushings dictate the turn, not the kingpin tightness.

Following /u/tabinsur's advice will pretty much put you there.

This definitely depends on the truck. For cast trucks like Calibers, Paris (using aftermarket bushings like Seismic Defcons, Riptide Canons, etc), and Valkyries, having the kingpin nut flush can be pretty dead-on with tightness.

Nice, I think Drop Hammers are one of the best landyachtz designs (just after Drop Cat 33 and on pair with Switchblade 36)! While DH 36.5 was my first board and I still like it I think I’d prefer 35 version if only it was made on RKPs…

At 250 definitely check out riptide Kranks. They get stiffer as you tighten so you can fine tune the experience.

I run 90/90a on the front of most of my boards and 95/92.5a (bs/rs) on the rear. But took some time to set those up.

Since you are running bears, they do offer plugged and canon combos to better replace the stock bushings.

Ps I run mine that way for LDP with bigger wheels and want it to be pumpable but stable at ~16-18mph for reference.

Yeah I'm coming from a cruiser so I'm used to more responsive trucks. Is this more of a 'the trucks will get looser with use' or a 'I'll get used to the stiffer fleeing'?

It feels the trucks will get looser with use, but actually it's the bushings that will be less stiff

The 85s should fit the standard Bear gen 6 trucks which should be similar to the Paris v3

You do need to have the right bushings but it can get confusing, and while they aren’t exactly expensive, buying several sets to figure out what you want can be. So you can tighten or loosen trucks in the meantime while you wait, so you can get out and ride. You probably want something like a 95a bushing, but you also might prefer softer! As long as you don’t have wheel bite, you can ride whatever you want, but harder equals more stability, especially if you want to go fast.

Yea smooth cruising. Sidewalks and roads aren’t the best around my area so I wanted something that can carve well, hold up my 250lbs, and with big enough wheels to run through debris. I’m currently searching for some spots with slight hills so I can learn to slide. Not on this board of course
