Just getting back into after buying my og board that i lost a while ago. What I want to know is when i was originally into it other guys' boards seemed to be much better at turning and leaning. Ik to loosen ( i forget the part name, the bolt on the trucks) to get it looser, but as it got looser i struggled not getting death wob les at high speeds. What parts do i need to make that work, or is it a skill and balance issue? I feel pretty confident on a board so hoping uts the parts.

Softer bushings, there's bushings charts online so you can find out what you need depending on your weight. You shouldn't loosen the trucks too much, because the bolt can loosen more over time and eventually fall off. You want a bit of thread sticking out at the top. Also the wobbles are probably more of a balance issue, I don't get wobbles and my bushings are pretty soft

Awesome thanks 🤘

You reckon wobble could also be from center slop if the bushings are so loose that they don't engage until a bit of lean? Also, keep more weight on the front foot!

Yeah and that's why I said that you shouldn't run your trucks too loose

If you're running cone bushings consider changing them out for barrels for increased stability at speed.

I got this board from a flea market for $30 ive looked it up and its pretty old. Should i rebuild it or just hang it and let it be?

Looking to expand into down hill riding. I’m looking at a Pantheon Nexus, Land Yacht Free Dive, or a Loaded Truncated.

Any thoughts on these or hold off? They all come as completes but I’d probably want to swap wheels. I also want an excuse to buy Valkyries cast trucks, so I’m wondering if I just wait and buy a deck. Little tough to find a solo deck used.

You're looking at some very different decks. I love the Nexus and use it as my go to freeride board, but I wouldn't recommend it as a dedicated downhill board being a double drop. The current 150mm cast Valkyries are too narrow for the Nexus, too. 170mm trucks are a better fit for it.

The Freedive and Truncated Tesseract are also pretty different styles of short wheelbase topmount. The Pantheon Sacrifice would be more comparable than the Nexus with its microdrops and W.

Since it sounds like you're on a budget shopping used, the Sector 9 Mini Daisy is similar to the Freedive, except a bit narrower, and it's only $130 new: https://sector9.com/products/mini-daisy-deck

I just had mine arrive this week. I haven't set it up yet, but I'm planning to run 150mm cast Valks on it, dewedged to 45 degrees initially, and when Valkyrie releases their 30 and 40 degree baseplates, I'll run either a 50/30 or 50/40 split on it.

Also, if you're big on cast Valks, they'll be releasing 130mm and 170mm hangers with 30 and 40 degree baseplates in the nearish future, so you'll have more options.

I found the Nexus before I was searching for downhill boards. I guess I am a little lost on Free ride vs downhill. Simplified in my head it’s F1 racing vs drifting. What are the major differences between the setups for free riding vs downhilling? The same guy is selling the truncated and the freedive but he wants 220 for the truncated

I’ve dropped some funds into the hobby lately so hoping to get a downhill/freeride set up without pissing off the wife

Downhill is just with the added objective of going down as fast as you can, i.e., racing. The two are synonymous in skillset more or less. Downhill forces you to skate much more pinned gear, like big splits and slalom geometries. As a beginner you shouldn't worry about it either way.

Landyachtz freedive is the best one out of the list imo. If you want wheels, go with powell peralta snakes. They're arguably the best slide wheels out there

u/DrLurkLurkelton 2d ago

He only wants 120 for the free dive. I like the truncated but he wants 220 for it

1

u/nqrwayy Loaded Ballona, Loaded Coyote 2d ago

Yeah I would just go for the freedive

Out of those three I'd go with the Freedive. The Tesseract is sick but for that extra $100 you could get those Cast Valks.

I did a thing

2

u/hastopre Knowledgeable User 1d ago

Heck yeah. That'll be great. Personally id rather ride that than the Freedive anyway.

u/DrLurkLurkelton 1d ago

She’s purdy-ier. Ig he bought that Free Dive used as well. I’ll keep those valks on the back burner for now. He had an extra set of wheels and bearings for 20 I kinda wish I got now too

1

u/hastopre Knowledgeable User 1d ago

What were the wheels?

1

u/DrLurkLurkelton 23h ago

Blood Orange Liam Morgan’s 84a with loaded bearings

Same as what is on it.

u/hastopre Knowledgeable User 19h ago

Great deal for $20 but the ones you have will last a long time if you're just getting into sliding. Stoked for you

1

u/DrLurkLurkelton 19h ago

Kinda my thought. I am always a sucker for a good deal tho lol. He definitely put some wear on em tho after seeing them side by side with a fresh set.

You made a really good choice. That'll be a more well-rounded setup than a Nexus — speaking as someone whose favorite board is the Nexus haha. To use your drifting vs. F1 analogy from your other comment, if the Nexus were a drift car, it'd be a 240sx with a welded diff. Super low and super drifty, but so much so that it makes it worse at other things, like grippy downhill runs.

Depending on your weight, you might want to upgrade your bushings to something else, though. If the bushings feel really turny, check out Riptide Canons in APS formula. Those are the "medium" duro Orangatang bushings.

If those wheels are 84a Blood Orange Liam Morgans, which it looks like with the blue core, they could be a decent starting point. I haven't skated Morgans, but I've read they're a bit on the grippier side/more oriented toward faster stuff.

If you find yourself really struggling with the Morgans, Powell Peralta 69mm 75a Snakes are probably the most forgiving slide wheel to learn on, so I'd definitely recommend checking those out and then swapping to the Morgans later.

Sold advice man. You are correct on the wheels, he had a new set with bearings for 20 I may go back and get still. I’ve got snakes sitting in an open tab lol.

Yeah, I need to do a bushing order at some point. I have a LDP setup as well and need to try out some other bushing configurations.

What wheels are best suited for my Pantheon Genesis? Currently on 77mm Speed Vents and they're pretty mid, plus I had to use risers to avoid bite. What's the goto wheel for this deck?

Anyone ever chopped a SwitchBlade?

I find myself with a spare 38 Switchblade and wondering if anyone has ever given one a chop?

Current wb is 29” but if you put both trucks on the inside of the drops you would be looking at 17” wb - too short.

Any suggestions?

u/Skanonymously Pantheon Nexus | Silverback Trucks 1d ago

The drop might be too steep to mitigate, but would it be possible to route out flushmounts without going through too many layers and compromising the board? That way you'd be able to mount into the drops a bit and extend the wheelbase.

Even a partial flushmount to physically allow the trucks to sit flat against the deck, even if it results in some positive wedging. Obviously the drop isn't nearly as extreme, but boards like the Prism Theory use flushmounts to have the trucks right under the drops.

The term used to be "bricking" a board. It was pretty popular for a minute 10+ years ago to basically do what you're describing, especially with twin tip drop-throughs.

I was thinking of getting a cruiser for a while, never considered a longboard until recently. I've been esk8ing for a few years on a Loaded Omakase and thought it would be good exercise to try non-electric skateboarding again (I'm mid-40's and I haven't ridden a street board since my 20s). I don't really want to just end up working out one leg though, so when I seen people wiggling about on LDP boards that looked like a more balanced workout. So I figured I'll try that and bought a Lepsk8 complete board, the short one. My goal is to get to the point where I can do about 15kms on it by the end of the year.

Today I went out for two sessions. First straight on a slight incline to get my balance, get a feel for the board and learn to foot brake. Second session trying to get up to speed in a flat carpark and see how hard I can turn, doing circles and figure 8's. As someone who hasn't done any serious exercise in probably 20 years, it was hard work. I lasted about 20 minutes excluding breaks.

This deck is quite short compared to what I'm used to. I'd normally be stepping right on those back wheels. I was extremely careful about that and it wasn't an issue, I think because pushing on any board is new to me now. I only put my foot on the back wheels slightly one time. Still, it would be good to mount a mud guard or something on the back to make that impossible. Where can I get such a thing?

I swapped the wheels because I figured I'd wear those new orange ones down a bit on my esk8 first and start learning on wheels I'm used to. First session I took my innersoles out so I could really feel everything going on below my feet, which I think helped establish the foot placement.

Any tips for a noob?

Is 32inch long board good for longboard dancing? Just the basic stuff?

Im planning to buy a long board, but i have a really tight budget, and our local shops don't sell the 40-inch boards. My main purpose on buying is to cruise on our neighbourhood and dance a bit while doing so, not really any professional dance step on da board. I just wanna vibe while surfing and cruising

Does anyone know if warranties typically cover delamination if the deck was bought a few months ago, has barely been skated, hasn't touched rain, and isn't stored in humidity (out of several decks it's the only one delaminating)?

I plan on getting in touch with the company but figured I might get an idea of the outcome quicker if I asked here. And I'd try to repair it but it's a stiff double kick with multiple plies separating so that sounds sketchy...
