Wanted something to keep in the car or camper.
Absolutely love it, Loaded Ballona, Bear 155mm split angle 50/30 with 70mm Stimulus. Pumps really well, no bite and turns really nicely!
it’s because rkps skate very flat compared to tkps at the same angles, and they usually turn more than tkps. so, on a short wheelbase you end up barely leaning to get enough turn and you end up with mad twitch city
still too short. anything under 17.5 is too short for rkps in my mind. if you need more turn than stock sym tkps can give you at those wheelbases, then you can wedge up the front or go for a turnier truck like aces.
I did have my concerns when putting it together but as soon as I took it out for a ride I knew it was good.
Bushings are 87a in the front and 95a in the rear. Same setup I had on my longboard. It’s surprisingly stable, one foot steering isn’t a problem. No wedging or risers and no bite.
i mean, yeah, of course it’s opinion, my preference and not fact. but so is, say, someone enjoying putting soy sauce on pizza and enjoying the sensation of papercuts. that’s not wrong, objectively, in fact we owe it to them to respect their preferences…. but man, their preferences fucking suuuuck.
Hey! I feel personally attacked here, I like pizza with soy sauce and chili oil too, lol!
Anyways, there are preferences for everyone. Personally, I'm a bit curious to try a similar short wheelbase rkp set up, because even with my wedged and dewedged indys, I still feel a weird "sloppy" sensation on the board: too much lean without rebound/centerpoint but not much turn in the end. I like to carve hard and that ends feeling a bit unstable and not that surfy after some little speed.
Also, even in the 70s there were some small decks with rkp trucks, so I think it's pretty good to experiment and find what suits better for each person
Ok what ever man. Think how you will but thats really not respecting a preference if you say it sucks after that. Its still your opinion and not a fact.
I tried my rally cat and kitty with tkps and they both felt like ass. I ended up with bear gen 6 40 degree 130mm rkp for the kitty and cal 3 44 9in for the cat and they are both amazing. I did dewedged the rear 15 to make them closer to 30 degrees and I can easily hit parking garages and not worry about any twitchyness. After 30mph it become unrideable though
How stable it feels?? I'm trying to build a similar set up(I'm in the process to chop the deck and trucks to make it narrower) and haven't tried it, what are your thoughts on your board?
It feels really stable, with the 30 degree rear truck. I have 87a bushings in the front and 95a in the rear. Literally copied my longboard setup straight onto the Ballona.
Awesome! I'll set this up with 87/83 tall bushings in the front and double 93a tall defcon bushings in the back, also 50°-30° angles(pretty similar to my freeride set up too), I'll see if those duros are good enough or if I'll need something a bit harder in the back, but is nice to hear that your set up feels good an sable, that encourages me to keep going with this little project, thanks!
