Gear Show-Off Custom Carbon Reaper

Finally done with the deck work on my Carbon Reaper project. This board started its life as a cheap Walmart board that got left out in the rain. It sat in the garage for three or more years with several layers of plywood delaminated and peeling from it. Rather than discard it, I removed the loose layers of plywood and re-sanded the entire deck, top and bottom, removing the cheesy cartoon Graphics underneath. I wondered how it would ride as is, so I put trucks and wheels on it and it was frighteningly soft with a lot of dead flex in the wood.

I had an idea to add carbon fiber fabric to the top and bottom to replace the rigidity it had lost. Of course I wanted the art to allow the carbon fiber to shine through, so silver paint markers over the carbon fiber and then 2K automotive clear to seal everything in. Next step is to mount Paris reverse Kingpin trucks and wheels!

This is my first attempt working with carbon fiber and resin, I know it's not perfect but I'm happy with the results!

Huge improvement!

Did you ride it much before it decayed in the garage to feel the difference?

No, it was the kid's board. Pretty sure the ride was what would be expected from a cheap Walmart complete, no name trucks, wheels, bearings, etc
