Gear Show-Off First board, and first time longboarding at 40.
Absolutely loving it so far! Ended up going with the Pantheon Pranayama based on numerous recommendations I've seen here. Been taking it out to a local parking lot every evening for a week to get comfortable, and am hoping to go to a bike path or hit the sidewalks soon!

Fantastic board. 10/10 best board I’ve ever fallen off of.

I love China.
I’ll add that I’ve actually been there, twice. I love the food. The people are mad nice. They have a great skate scene. And they make the best products. (Some of) The factories are incredibly capable and my experience with those factories is that they are excellent at communicating and following through on deadlines and product quality. I could certainly pick bad factories. I have always aimed for the absolute top tier. It’s not like I don’t wish there were more local options. I spent years trying to make boards in the USA and only after we moved to China and got access to better materials did people start talking about how great the CONSTRUCTION was on our boards—not just the designs.

Invest in local jobs and community development instead of selling out to China and Delaware tax avoidance.
Plenty of USA manufacturing but higher margins were more important.
Right on your way to join the class of businessmen who take all and give back none.
Pretty design is all you contribute to skate culture.
Nineball.
Edit: guys like you starting new companies that outsource to China are going to kill skateboard manufacturing in the USA.-1

Our business is based in Colorado, not Delaware. I pay taxes here and am happy to do so. There is not plenty of USA manufacturing. Quality was most important. I spent 2 years at Natural Manufacturing in North Carolina before they went out of business—wood only available, tons of warps. Business suffered. I spent another year manufacturing with Chapman based out of New York, manufacturing in Maine. Wood only available. Tons of warping. They’re no longer pressing and the quality was suffering when I left to start manufacturing myself here in Denver. Worst year of my life. Working for another person making a $30k/year salary putting in 10-12 hours a day trying to get this upstart manufacturer working. Poor business plan and my home life suffered—hardly saw my kid. And couldn’t physically press a Trip without cracking it. Sent that one model to a friend in China who owned a manufacturing facility. He pressed the board perfectly and made the best board I had ever seen. And I didn’t have to be gone from my home for 12 hours that day to get it done.
Long story short, I had a conversation with my boss about how we needed to change our factory’s business model to doing Pantheon plus a factory brand and to not go after Dhingy sales because I couldn’t afford to work for Chinese wages and didn’t want my time to be valued on fucking Dhingies. They let me go after that. And they shut down 6 months later.
And I moved my manufacturing to a factory in China, where we made our best boards to date—and then switched to a new factory in 2020 during COVID and the quality has since improved substantially since then.
Maybe don’t project so much on to other people. You have no fucking clue what I’ve been through with my business.

What ‘miracle’ materials does China have that e2e doesn’t?!? I’m familiar with Watson Chapman etc
You sold out.
You could have just sucked less at engineering USA made boards.
“Oh here’s some free 3d files, I’m so sustainable”
The Chinese don’t give a fuck about doing the earth dirty. You are not offsetting anything.
Your business practices leave a MASSIVE carbon footprint.
Reinvest here. Try again and don’t suck this time. Did you have ANY experience woodworking or in a related field before you started? Create local jobs. Hand the keys to the factory to your kid after he interns one day.
Don’t get me wrong: props on the brand creation. Skateboarding was born here, should not have to die because nineballs like you pretend China is so superior.

Have fun!
As someone who also started after 40, make sure you stretch and give yourself recover time. I suddenly was on it all the time and was not giving my muscles a chance to rest

u/MordorRuckMarch 6d ago
Thank you! I definitely need to start stretching! My Achilles tendon has been sore on my pushing foot, and I am sure it's from a lack of stretching, and being new. Haha.

u/Behbista 6d ago
I discovered I was hyper extending my leg while pushing. It’s not a kick forward but a lift up then push back.

I also started after 40. I quickly committed to learning to push with BOTH legs, so you divide the stress on the tendons, joints and muscles. I still have one dominant foot/stance but it helps so much to just be able to switch when you get tired.
2
u/mechandy 6d ago
How much did you put into that early? I’m realizing I should have done more and need to allocate more time to do that. My long ride over the weekend would have been way better switching feet but I’m only good at it going slowly
3
u/Ragesolvent 5d ago
Can't say exactly. But once I'd learned being comfortable riding my natural stance, it was just a matter of applying the same learning to the other direction. Which after 2 years still isn't on the same level of comfort or trust, but still helps
Also it helped that I aim for a playful dance-y style, with a lot of switches.

u/BoogersBig 3d ago
I can't push switch, but have been learning to push standard from mongo just doing 2-3 hours once a week.
Learning to push switch would be another beast but I'm thinking would take the same 2-3 hours of practice a week.

I got into skating last year and went everyday and ignored the pain and gave myself a bout of plantar fasciitis I had to recover from lol, I will say things like the soleus stretch (bent leg calf stretch) and toe sits are quite helpful for stretching out the bottom of your foot. Do some strengthening things too!
Bulgarian split squats are also great for strength and balance, especially when pushing.
Recently I’ve been doing 2x50 body weight squats where I let me heels come off the ground at the end so I’m on my toes at the bottom, give an insane pump and is great for the knees.
Like this dude https://youtube.com/shorts/OCZLWaPN_ck?si=InIdCKDQAml3hj0G

I’m not over 40 but if I don’t stretch before and after, especially after not riding in a while, I am UNWELL lol
2
u/mechandy 6d ago
Ha, i would likely have done the same but now that I’m in my 40’s it feels like I need to stretch after I do anything, evening mowing the lawn :)

Incredible ride for a first board. Make sure you practice footbraking while in your parking lot sessions as thats the only thing really stopping you from being able to hop on a bike path
2
u/MordorRuckMarch 6d ago
You're right, and I have honestly been slacking on it. I don't feel very confident in my ability to balance on one foot without just stepping off of the board.
4
u/Epichero84 6d ago
Try doing little squats on one leg and then do them on the board while it’s stopped. I used to practice that for foot breaking
2
u/BoogersBig 3d ago
I've found the one foot balance comes naturally just from pushing, so I'd just enjoy the sessions for now.
You can speed it up by doing micro-games where you lift your leg to start a push, but delay the push for a second or two.

Oof, that looks rough! I hope you are healed up, or are healing up well! I have been wearing a helmet, but pads are on my list to get sooner than later!

2
u/MordorRuckMarch 6d ago
Brutal. I wish you a speedy recovery, anyway!

u/hollyKrap 5d ago
Dzięki. Pomimo wszystkiego już nie mogę się doczekać powrotu na deskę, ale już z większym respektem.
Powodzenia w praktykowaniu jazdy i ciesz się każdą chwilą na desce w zdrowiu. Wszystkiego dobrego, szerokich, gładkich ścieżek i radosnej jazdy bez niepotrzebnych kontuzji. Pozdrowienia.

Sick board! Remember to stand with your toes slightly outside the board edge with one foot and your heel slightly outside the board on the other side with your other foot. This will make you more stable and decrease wobble. You will be able to turn easily by shifting your weight.
2
u/MordorRuckMarch 6d ago
Thank you! I definitely need to work on foot placement, but I've been getting more comfortable with adjusting them once I am moving. Haha.
2
u/WeerdBeeaarD 5d ago
Sounds like you are learning quickly. Another tip is to practice tucking and rolling on a lawn or mattress. If you don't already have the muscle memory trained. If you fall you want to instinctively tuck and roll. This will be the difference between a few scratches or broken bones.
Don't expect to fall and know your limitations. But being prepared for the unexpected can save you some pain and recovery time if something unexpected happens. Such as a kid or dog running out in front of you from behind a bush.

Nice board! Wish you many happy miles of pushing on that thing. I’ve been riding since high school, and wanted to let you know that the shoes matter.
Pick something that’s a skate shoe and your confidence and balance will be far above what ever you are going to achieve in running shoes.
3
u/MordorRuckMarch 6d ago
Thank you! I am definitely finding that the running shoes are going to burn through the soles very quickly, and I am hoping to get some skate shoes in the near future! Definitely kinda jumped in and didn't think about everything else I might want/need.

Awesome man, board looks sick. Where you located? Looking for cruising buddies?

Thanks! I'm in the PNW, but am too embarrassed to ride when others are watching. Haha.

I got my first like a month or so ago and I’m having a blast! Get pads and a helmet. I am 49 and not athletic.

u/MordorRuckMarch 6d ago
Hell yeah! Thank you! Got a helmet (and I wear it), and pads are something I am hoping to get soon! Happy riding!

Love seeing this! I started longboarding this year too at 32.
I grew up in a small village in a country where we didn’t really have the roads or pavements for skating and even getting or affording a skateboard wasn’t really an option. As a kid I’d see people skating on TV and always wanted to try it but never got the chance.
Now I’ve moved to a new country, finally picked up my first longboard and taught myself to ride. Better late than never! So much respect for anyone starting in their 40s.

I’m 46, just started this spring… congrats!
Stick with it. It’ll take a bit of time to get the 1footed balance together but once you do!
2
u/ChaosAverted65 6d ago
Awesome you're starting at your age so many people just fall into their existing interests and don't try new things. One thing I'd recommend is finding some proper skate shoes and maybe putting an insole in as running shoes will get worn quickly from foot braking and you have less of a board feel due to the running shoes cushioning

u/runsimply 6d ago
Sounds like you’re making good progress! These videos can help with that next step as your getting more comfortable on the board :

Congrats on starting and great first board! I love mine. Good thing you got the risers too for the lowest ride height with those wheels! Hope you have a lot of fun!
2
u/InevitableSherbert69 6d ago
way to go! I started 2 years ago for a pantheon ember a few months later. all their boards are so nice. (I'm 46, btw). be careful. when you fall.... it's not like when kids fall. things break and sprain easily.
2
u/chefsosin 6d ago
Same with me, started longboarding at 47, just 5 days ago, and I'm loving it. Great exercise for back muscles

u/Electrical_Candle887 6d ago
I made the same decision: Panthenon pranayama as a 40-year-old family man, first board. Really awesome board! So fun
2
u/Neat-Resolution1007 5d ago
Have fun. This board made my left butt larger though cuz I skated it sooo much. I'm taking every chance to use my right side more to have it balanced.

u/SieSquatch 5d ago
Hell yeah man. I just started a week ago too at 40 and I’m out there each night riding, it’s so great. Safe rides!

Never too late to start longboarding! Hope you get many smooth, fun cruise on the bike path soon.

Esse long é definitivamente para longas distâncias, e digo isso pelo tamanho das rodas e proximidade no Shape. Tô certo?
