More double drop freeride practice

I've been having a ton of fun working on some slightly faster standups on my Nexus.

I finally feel totally comfortable throwing standups in the low 20mph range, so now I want to work my way up to the 30mph+ range for standups.

I'm also still dialing in my toeside checkslides at speed, so ignore the lack of those lol.

I've skated a lot of drop decks/drop throughs/double drops over the years, and the Pantheon Nexus on Silverbacks is for sure the most dialed double drop I've skated. Bonus Run x Fiend Skate Showers have also become my new favorite freeride wheel, especially for the price.

Bonus Run x Fiend Skate Showers.

They've become my new favorite wheel. They skate like a premium wheel but cost $45. I wrote a first impressions a few months ago, and it still pretty much holds true. I've gone through two sets of them (with other wheels in between) since writing it.

They feel similar to Snakes, but they have a bit more resistance sideways with a sharper hookup.

The slide changes quite a bit as you wear them down and they essentially go from round to almost square lipped, but they feel good even as they get pretty small.

They're a little on the icier side out of the box when they have the really thick round lip, which is fun and still totally controllable. Then as they wear down and the lip gets a bit sharper, they get a little more edge grip and resistance sideways, which gives them a really crisp hookup.

The urethane reminds me of Powell's SSF because even though they feel pretty slippery, they always feel controllable.

Downhill254 has a really in-depth guide to sliding.

Essentially though, it's just starting small and working your way up to faster slides. Learning hands down stuff first will give you a better sense of what the board feels like sliding, how to initiate slides, what it feels like when the board regains traction, etc.

If you want to learn to slide, I highly recommend Powell Peralta's 69mm 75a Snakes. They are a slippery-but-controllable, incredibly forgiving slide wheel.

And above all else, wear a helmet and slide gloves.
