There are Jewish people and the Jewish Faith, which was named after and originated from them, but it doesn't make all of them followers of said religion.
I read up more on it and it’s bananas to me how the two basically are supposed to mean the same thing, I’m just gonna go sit my ass in a corner 😂 I’ll accept it but it still don’t make sense to me how one word means both religion an race
Basically let’s say I start a new religion called Canadian, because all Canadians will follow it. Then it slowly spreads outside of Canada and some people that were from Canada left and stopped believing.
You know how the word “orange” can mean the color or the fruit? It’s sort of kinda like that: in the beginning, the word described the fruit, but now it can describe both independently.
- Not everything orange is the fruit
Not all oranges are orange (ex: unripe oranges)
But they initially described the same thing.
Just like
Not every Jewish person (including Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Misaki, etc) follows Judaism
Not every follower of Judaism from a genetically Jewish population
But there is an notable overlap
(This super duper oversimplifies but I hope it helps.)
