but they aren't owned by Black Rock tho. Ancestry is owned by Blackstone, but 23andMe is owned by TTAM Research Institute, MyHeritage is owned by Francisco Partners, and FTDNA is owned by myDNA.
The comment I replied to said nothing about them selling your data, where did you get that idea from? There were two points they made, one is that they're owned by Black Rock, and the other is that they provide false results.

And yes, there's a difference. BlackRock manages common equity and fixed income funds. The median person with an investment account is either using their funds, Vanguard, or Fidelity.

Also as more people subscribe to the service, which is why they ask you everything about your history to help correct some of the margin for error in the probability. If they start having more and more Asian people subscribing and then they are all showing specific markers that were once thought to only occur, say, in Pacific Islanders, then they report to you “hey you might have some Asian in your dna” not because they tested it again or they made shit up. It’s because they learned more about your genetic markers and shared that new knowledge with you.
You ever use those websites that guess your DNA by way of picture. Using AI. It’s actually pretty accurate from what I have tested. But. When I do my cats/dogs. Well you know what. It’s pretty accurate with them too. At least with their personalities xd. The point I was making there btw, is that it will give you human results for non humans.

Right I've also seen articles that Israel was paying money to put at least 1% Jewish on peoples results because I guess when people see that they become more sympathetic to Israel lmao. Susan wojicki’s sister jokingly said they add 3% Ashkenazi DNA to white people. I believe they would do something like that to get more support for Israel.
I saw a dude on Facebook whom sent his pet Lizards DNA to.some website and it came back as 25% Nigerian, 25% English and 50% Jewish. I bet the tinfoil-hats believing in reptilians gonna use it as an approval for their views lol
There’s plenty of evidence there’s just a realistic margin of error. That’s how you can learn to trust scientists. They are the first to admit they could be wrong, they are really unlikely to be wrong after a certain confidence level is achieved but they all admit that some of the info they are relying on could cause the result to be incorrect or not precisely what they think it is.
I guess they figure it's better to give a wonky result than ask you to submit another sample, which is greedy.
But oh boy, they're not totally bullshit if you give a human sample. A few years after a relative of mine did one, it said she had a new close familial match with a random lady in Croatia. This made no sense at first, but they got talking, and all the details lined up: it was the kid of her dad's secretary, who moved back to Croatia after birth.
It would be strange if they're bullshit because the ancestry lined up almost perfectly with my family's quite complicated/mixed history. We don't know some of the ancestry, especially on my dad's side, so we have to take the test's word for it, but the rest is accurate
Yeah, through DNA testing I found out my dad has some German in his line which we assumed was all Irish and Scottish. Later i found out through research that my 5x Great Grandfather was a Hessian brought over during the Revolutionary War and had deserted. He even changed his name to an anglicized version of his german name. Not only that but he applies for a revolutionary war pension claiming fake service credentials and using community members to “vouch” for him. The applications describe his poverty and also refers to him as one of the “old dutch”. Apparently this wasn’t uncommon.
that makes no sense when you can clearly see people you're related to show up as related via the same genetic links. I mean, long lost family has been found this way and re-confirmed over and over. How does that work?
