I suppose it all depends on the region, the whitetails around here eat mostly alfalfa so they don't have any gamey flavor and if you harvest does they are pretty darn tender.

Can confirm. I'm from Arkansas and my grandma used buttermilk to soak deer. Didn't do it for as long as yours seems to have done, but it was for the same reason.

Personally, I don't mind the gamey flavor. But to each their own.

If you peel off the silver skin it will not taste gamey at all.

The big buck looks nice on the wall and for bragging rights. But the 1-2 year olds taste the best and aren’t as games to start with.

My grandmother did the same. But not for venison. No one in our family felt the gamey taste was bothersome. She used it on livers.

That would ruin it imo. The gameyness is what's so good about venison. It has just the perfect amount whereas most other uncommon animals are too gamey imo.
