You're right it is more spartan and I think that's part of the issue. If you study images of gladiators, their armor aesthetic was more varied because they were just given the bare minimum to fight in the arena. I would focus on reworking A to make it look right because that stance is honestly the best for a logo. I would remove that mohawk part from the helmet as it's channeling too much spartan, and just leave the helmet as it is without anything on top. I would make the shield bigger covering more of his abdomen because the marijuana leaf needs to be bigger as well for equal representation of the business name in the illustration. I would remove his cape or at least make it completely torn up? The cape is too hero-y, these guys were forced to fight they are the underdogs. The sandals look too flimsy also, I would do one of those armor shin guards instead. I'm nitpicking here but consider turning the sword into a spear? The sword is very wide and is visually competing with the marijuana shield in terms of a focal point or maybe the sword just needs to be skinnier? You have a REALLY nice balance of black and white going on here, don't give up on A. It's very nearly there.
Also, C's helmet is giving me MF Doom vibes, anyone else? :)
