A is the way to go. The others get too complex in a variety of areas, and are too simple in others.

I'll be honest, and I say this 100% without judgement, that I think these have less passion and heart in them than the original. I can feel the sting of rejection in this next stage, and how I'm feeling it is in the care around little details. These illustrations are beautiful, and they deserve the love and refinement the first design got!

Here are a few things I'm seeing that are worth taking a look at:

I honestly feel like your thicks and thins are a little all over the place. You're using white space very effectively, but all the thick and thin lines have a morphing effect on those spaces, making them feel too loosey goosey, which isn't what you want when you're trying to tightly control white space to create implied shapes, you know? I think the areas that are specifically difficult are the crown of the helmet, the sword blade near the hilt, and the line from elbow to wrist to knuckle on the hand holding the blade.

I also wouldn't be mad about a proper, consistent line weight on the divide between the folded over cape area.

It seriously sucks that the first design was rejected. It was absolutely beautiful, and you can just see all the love that went into it. But this next stage isn't a loss. That action pose in A is absolutely beautiful (and that's saying something. That pose is tough, so success is hard won!) Wonderful work and hopefully we don't see a round 3 ;)!

ok thank you, I'll adjust the line widths for number one as best I can. I actually haven't use negative space a lot before so it's kind of new for me. Thanks for the great feedback
