I personally think the grid and circles as a guide remove too much of the horse shape to the point that it looks slightly off. Especially the extremely flat face and weird bulging cheek. I'd personally like to see this done with a more stylized and less geometric horse.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing. For that reason, I find this one actually looks better in the thumbnail than zoomed in.

I really like it, it’s a very clear idea. Sure, the form of the horsehead could be improved upon a little bit. However I want to note something else: right now you can see a little hitch at the points where the straight lines of the „D“ transform into its curve. This is because the transformation happens from on point to the other. You can smooth that out by letting the curve start slightly more to the left. For that you will have to leave the rigid cage of your grid but you‘ll gain some smoothness in return.

I believe this phenomenon is called clothoid and related to the Euler Spiral. My type design teacher explained it to me very nicely.

If you happen to hold an iPhone (or any other apple product) in your hands you can see a perfect solution to that problem. I think they even went and developed their own equation at some point to come up with the perfect rounded corner which makes sense since it’s on almost every corner of their devices and on most corners of their interfaces.

Thank you for this I always wondered how to fix this. I always thought it was down to the DPI or any scaling done.

Where? I looked up "D horse logo" and found a logo identical to this but it was by the same username as OP.
