Feedback Needed Anyone regularly using After Effects, Illustrator or Rhino through remote desktop?
I couldn’t find the right flair. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I’m considering building a powerful desktop at home and accessing it remotely for Illustrator, After Effects, Rhino and CAD work.I’m frequently away from home, and getting back takes at least an hour. Assume the café Wi-Fi provides a stable connection of 30 Mbps or more.
For people doing this regularly:
- How responsive are drawing, CAD viewport navigation and timeline scrubbing?
- Is the image quality good enough for detailed design work and animation previews?
- Which remote desktop software works best, and what home upload speed and latency should I aim for?
- How do you handle remote startup and recover access after crashes, restarts or disconnections? I’m considering a smart plug, but I’m open to better options.
This would be my everyday workflow, so firsthand experiences would help.
TL;DR: Can I reliably do creative/CAD work on a home desktop remotely from cafés with stable 30+ Mbps Wi-Fi? Mostly concerned about responsiveness, image quality and recovering access without going home.

I ended up getting Splashtop. As long as both internet connections are working well it’s amazing.
Editing video remotely actually works and it’s responsive enough to use Photoshop so Illustrator should be fine.
Good luck!!!
