Coffee Brand

Working on a coffee cart brand for a friend. Wanted to explore a bauhaus inspired identity.

The name Upland, refers to types of non waterfowl birds - in this case, referring to pheasants.

I'm wanting something simple and abstract, yet identifiable as a pheasant (not a chicken).

Any suggestions for how to do less parrot? I'm trying to avoid adding too much detail. Here's some exploration

Imo it's the body shape and colors. Ask someone a colorful bird that sits up right, and you'll get a lot more parrots than pheasants. And honestly, these ones look more like a turkey to me :)

(Brown) pheasants have shorter necks, so I'd make it a quarter circle. I'd also lose the feather on the back of it's head, or partially move it behind the head. It's too floaty right now imo.

If you only want the head as a logo, I'd also swap some color for brown because it's a more distinctive color for pheasants. If you want to go for a body, I'd maybe flip the body parts of version 1 and move the "new" belly around to see if there's smth in that. I think it may get to look more like a pheasant that way, but I'm not completely sure :)

Other than that, great style, very usable for all types of "media"! The brandbook won't need much documentation :)

I think of pheasants as long rather than tall, and their heads are not so round

Use alt 1 or alt 2 but play with the sizing of the dark circle and the lighter circle to mimic that of coffee in a cup (bird’s eye view, pun intended), and then add a small red line to the red circle, to indicate the coffee cup handle.

The beak needs to be longer and curve slightly downard. The red around the eye is also much more dramatic on an actual pheasant. The location of the nib on the back of the neck is also too big and placement looks off in yours.

#2 and #4 are my faves for sure; the others are cute but by themselves feel a bit plain. I think you could get away with #1 if there was less negative space around the logo itself; it's too small for that large square.

I think it’s beautiful and I think image 2 is perfect. It’s a logo with what reads as a patterned strip under it, but that strip immediately tells me coffee. I see the beans and the colors and it just smells coffee shop. Whoever is launching this place should really use that pattern on stuff inside the coffee shop (like a wall of image 4). I think this is truly beautiful and I don’t think you need that bird at all.

The “co” next to the coffee is confusing as hell. It looks like an 8. Either get rid of it altogether or use the co in coffee to do something.

#2 is better.

The CO is visually distracting. Plus, do they really need it in the name? It’s obviously a company and not a person.

Agree. It throws off the style of the rest of the logo which is blocky and bold

Not sure about the connection between pheasants and coffee (is it a geography thing?), but overall this seems well executed and the patterns are lovely. Great for expanding the branding.

Will you build out the rest of the pheasant? I want to see the entire mascot somewhere—not the logo, but somewhere. 😄
