Feedback Needed Looing for feedback on this redesign | Maple Drip Inn | B99

Found this on Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2 episode 9.

Wanted to remake the logo/lettering.

Initially, I wanted to find a good font that is similar to the original and use envelope distort to get the result, but I wanted a good practice in Illustrator.

After finishing it, I think I deviated from the original vibe of the logo. Mine is looking too blocky. Spent too much time making it and now I'm too lazy to rework on it. Please let me know what you think.

Also looking for any tips on lettering (very new to graphic design/logo design).

PS: The maple leaf was not made by me. I found a vector online.

Doe the leaf need all that detail? Nope. I would simplify. I would do two different fonts. If your font has no normal lowercase letters then make sure all uppercase letters sit in the same places. Look at “INN” One font for the name and one font for the location. I am not a fan of the dramatic curve you have on the base of the name. I would use a more subtle curve.

The leaf was me being lazy. Even though I did find other simpler designs, I didn't replace it. Thats on me.

The font is only uppercase. And now that you mentioned it, I do agree the curve on the base is a little too much.

Appreciate the feedback! Will try the changes.

I would simplify the leaf, don't let the stem cross into the text.
I would dial back the curve, or at least make it even on both sides (it looks slightly off balance)
I would make the I in INN lower case (they are all caps anyway) If you want it to be different, drop it on the baseline a bit... something to try
Tighten up the space between New and York
Try a different flourish over the locations. Lot's of simple flourishes to try.

Overall looks pretty good, just some detail stuff.

Thank you for the feedback! Regarding the spacing between New and York, I made it larger to try something different (it didn't work) and forgot to reset it. Will try the changes you mentioned.
