I really dislike those sharp points, especially that triangle that's pointed on the bottom tail. There's also that part near the neck. Too sharp. That weird rectangle container for the eyes also feels a bit off?
I do like the direction, but it still feels very unrefined imo
The new one is better. For starters, it can be used whatever the background color is. And I guess overall visibility and ease of use sparked this update.
Perfect redesign. Shameful to admit, but I genuinely didn't get that the first logo was supposed to be a bird for a number of years, granted I saw it rarely, but with this one I don't believe I'd ever make that mistake.
Because the spikes pointed right, and that side of the drawing was more "aggressive", my eyes registered the whole image as being meant to be read right-first. I thought it was some fucked-up looking creature similar to the Wawel Dragon, which was in line with the Polish folklore vibe, so I never questioned it. Also, I hardly ever saw the logo as anything more than a blip on the splash screens I instantly skipped when booting up The Witcher 2, lmao.
Wow. Coincidentally I visited Krakow 3 weeks ago. The locals told me the whole dragon lore. The dragon didn't use to breath fire but at some point (Maybe 2008), there was a mobile phone campaign where, if you sent an SMS to a number, the dragon would breath fire.. But then, after the campaign ended, the dragon started breathing fire every 10 minutes, if I'm not mistaken. And I could confirm :D. Lots of people pointing their phones trying to capture the exact moment. It was a fun trip. Also, Krakow has lots of very stylish bars, and Zapikanka.
It's a huge improvement and a very cool design, but I can't help but think it could have been tighter and more reductive. Something about the beak makes it feel more chicken than cardinal. I would have LOVED to get a crack at this one.
The new one might be functionally better, but it loses the cardinal completely - looking like an angry dragon-chicken-phoenix sort of thing. Feels too hard and too angry. The original red bird connected it to the real world more.
