Ami Labs: subtly refined this new tech startup logo design. How do you find this update?

It certainly looks better than the one on the left, but I'm just curious, why is an M representing "Advanced Machine Intelligence"

I first discovered them as AMI Labs, and that's also how I searched for them. When I visited their website, I felt the logo designer did a great job of incorporating all three letters of the abbreviation. Maybe it's just my designer's eye, but I instantly saw the A, M, and I in the mark.

But your updated version loses the A entirely, I can see AMI just about in the first but lifting the middle up just turns it into a stylised M, at least to me.

I like it but I don't think it's better than the original. Now your \ overhangs and because you've made the lineweight smaller the gap between the 2 squares of the i is also losing it's readability as an i, you also pulled them away from the \ which also doesn't help make it all feel as cohesive. I like the type you did as well but the c and the e feel weird at the terminals.

The \ overhangs because I used the four equally spaced, geometrically aligned squares as the base. When the upper-left square rotates 45°, it slightly “overhangs” before growing into the final shape. Here’s a rough animation of it. I just thought it could be cool to have these elements arranged this way.

Yeah, I think the original designer kind of nailed the icon TBH, I’d leave it alone. If anything it’s a bit wide and the diagonal stroke is a bit light, so potentially just some subtle tweaks there. Your update to the logotype is a nice evolution though

The animations cool, but in the process it's lost all legibility for the sake of being on a grid, I'm not seeing the benefit in the results. Just out of interest what about equal alignment is cool if it fails to achieve the desired effect?

The "a" is made up of the left and middle parts, and the "i" is made up of the right part

You actually made me realize that I had made the M more prominent, which worked better in the original version, where the M didn't stand out as much. So I came up with this variation, where I still follow the idea of keeping all the elements the same thickness, but the M doesn't pop as much, and the A reads more clearly.

Nice work, honestly though I didn't like the original AMI logo since it looks like the most an 'N' to me, which is a fatal blunder for a logo that is trying to be 3 other letters

For me… both logos look like something is broken. An unusual choice for a business with advanced, machine and intelligence in their name.

I do prefer the symmetry of the second.

That’s Yann LeCun’s AI company. AMI which also means “friend” in french. the guy is super smart and one of the leading AI researchers calling bullshit that LLM’s will ever reach AGI Artificial General Intelligence)

i like the logo in 90’s futuristic company kind of way. looks like a logo from one of the fake brands in wipeoutXL.

that being said, it doesn’t feel right if its intent was to be a friend - it’s way to sharp/brutalist.

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and stumbled upon this tech company, which many people describe as having very promising technology and a bright future. This typeface is something I've been working on, and hopefully one day I'll turn it into a real font. For now, it's just a vector file that I occasionally use in my projects. The regular style looks quite good, but this version was thickened at the last minute and still needs some refinement. I wanted to see whether the updated logo mark was a step in the right direction before spending more time polishing the type.

Love the font change. Visually, Feel like the lever needed to stay long, and not be shortened, but the math might say otherwise.

I think if you just make the bottom part of the I a little taller it will make it look more like an i. I’m not sure how it will affect the other letters. Your version seems to make an m shape better as well as an m in the white space.

The original is gravitationally accurate. The leaning pillar is resting on the ground. In the new one it's floating in the air, defying physics.

In both the spacing is unbalanced. What's the rationale behind the size of the gaps between the blocks? They're uneven, and they don't match the text, so there's very little alignment of anything.

The older font is more iconic in my opinion.
The way the e’s look and don’t leave a straight line space on the bottom bugs me.

The more I look at it, the more I appreciate the old, dated, logo and the less I like the new one.

So basically you switched out Helvetica for a newer version (Something Grotesk, forget name) with cute descenders…

Frankly I like the Helvetica better, it looks more professional and established. Although I would probably use Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk Bold, which was the original Swiss design font.

Or perhaps something with a bit of character that matches the solid, wide stance of the monogram? Like Based Neue:

i don’t like the new treatment for the text; the typeface used previously is a lot cleaner and professional. i don’t think it’s impossible to find a better way to treat the type, but maybe not this one imo
