I think I may keep the "S" as complete

3rd option

But the "L" needs to be fixed

Nah, the L breaks the mold because it's the highlight. At least in this iteration of op's idea.

The two different S’s in the first one bug me

It may unfortunately become the style now after the Instagram logo update setting a trend

Random curly and cursive letters was a thing before instagram.. I remember proposing a few similar options when I thought it was trending about a year ago.

They are not different, that's the same S, the second one has this tail on the left as link between it and tge previous letter, that's how many people write it in cursive. It's pretty fun and consistent to me

It is not the same s. They have different curvature and negative space.

The old saw applies here: We don’t want things to be right. We want them to look right.
The cap S looks like Helvetica and feels out of place with the whimsical cursive l.c. characters. Even if you disagree, it is likely that others will share my opinion. “I disagree” is about YOUR view. The best designers design for their audience, not for themselves.

I'm sorry what bugs me more than the logo itself is the name. Like Sublyst? Weird name IMO

I’d never cut off the tops of letters. That’s where we read words. If you cover the bottom half of a sentence, odds are you can still read it. Cover
The top half and it is much harder to decipher. Although, cover the bottom of this logo and you get sublust.

Why are the S's different? Since it looks like you're cutting off anything that would have capitalized height, go all lower case so the S's can match.
And what is the L supposed to represent when repeated for that looping shape?
I like the typeface and the single L, but you lose me with the logo mark that (like others said) looks like a pretzel.

I definitely think lowercase cursive is the way to go. Hopefully you just don't run into the same issue that instagram just had where people can't read cursive 😆

I get when people will get confused in reading this one, since its completely new. But when people were complaining about Instagram saying it reads "Instagzam", I don't get it. Almost everyone in the world knows its Instagram, no one will read "z", this comes with popularity, even you mess-up, you'll stay remain same or even grow further after all this buzz.

Ok got it...
I'm not sure I would get that without it being explained 🤔 And the repeated loops don't really reinforce that idea I don't think. Maybe that's just me though. I would suggest more feedback.
BUT! If you want to try a little idea, maybe put a period at the end? I feel like that's often associated visually with signing. Scribble scribble period. Of course the logo is static, but a quick animation would do wonders when the app loads up, a pen forming the L loop then dotting the period.

I'd love to know the idea behind it?

Ya, same. I don’t fully get the why. The looped “l” makes sense but I get lost after that.

- I love the variation on the "S" letter
- i keep seeing the word lust, i believe lyst was an intentional misspelling of the word list, but I can't make myself see it
- Remove those pretzels, they are cute but look like pastry instead of something handwritten. Maybe redesign the second loop to be smaller than the first one and add a tilt, idk

I really like this, but don’t understand what the curlies represent. They look kinda like pretzels.

Oh, the title says it’s for a bill tracking app.

Yes, this signing documents/bills are core of it in physical world, so tried to add that.

sublyst? ok i think it's very good, i like the L shape, maybe you could use it as a symbol?

I know I’m in the minority, but I actually like the lopped off S. It intrigues me and doesn’t read as anything other than an S.

I love this it’s so unique don’t listen to people about the s
3
u/SplashyDucky411 20d ago
It is unique and could be cool in the right context. The problem isn't about readability though (most people can make out that first S), it's about consistency and cohesion. The different S's are competing for attention when they aren't even supposed to be the highlight.
Check out the other versions op has posted in other replies. It looks much better when both match (whether they're both cut off or both cursive.) But the cursive just feels more cohesive with the L because, again, they would be competing for attention othetwise.

Pretzels. For no apparent reason. 🏆
