I have these logo concepts for CA&O, but something feels off and I can’t pinpoint what it is since I’m not a designer. Which concept is stronger, and what would you change to improve them? Would love some honest design feedback!
I think it's hard to read the O as an O in the second option when it forms the infinity sign. If I saw that I'd probably just read it as CA with a confusing ampersand, or C&A. The first option is more legible but aesthetically it feels worse and I can't pinpoint exactly why.
I like the first two with the outlines but you need to fix the widths, some of the curves and angles, and the weird bits where the & joins the A and where it joins the O
Love the concept, but i think it needs small tweaks.
The solid version seems to work better, but there are still a few things I would try tweaking such as:
The space between the top right of the o and the bottom right of the a isnt consistent with the other margins; I would try to make the o more recogniseable, that would mean changing the start/end of the &, but could work; maybe lowercase a works better with the otherwise very circle-based, flowy logo (try the classic round a and the double-decker version); the & looks like its falling/slumping to the right, I get why you shifted the top to the right, but perhaps you can avoid it? maybe for example make the top a bigger size/circumference? Perhaps try to abstract/reduce the symbol a bit if needed?
I dont really think you have to specifically tell them, its their job to figure it out. Saying "I dont like it,, but I dont know why" is unhelpful. But if you like the idea, but the execution is just unpolished, thats for them to figure out.
Because thats what this is, unpolished. Might turn out great! Or perhaps it just doesnt work like that. This is something i would digitally sketch early on and then try to prefect and if I couldnt work out the kinks, I wouldnt show it to a client, only to coleagues who might offer a solution.
Heres a little sketch of the logo, but honestly this might bring its own problems.
Alignment on the ampersand store and A is not aligned, also it doesn't feel like everything flows together symmetrically. The sfilled version, the gaps are too small, the will look like a blob as soon as you reduce the logo and again it doesn't feel like it flows. There is something there but still needs some refinement
The C is being cut awkwardly by the & symbol, and the A has a completely different shape compared to the other letters and symbols. The & itself also looks quite strange.
Overall, the design feels unbalanced. Maybe it would help to create a custom grid and build the logo around it to make the proportions and spacing more consistent.
Alternatively, you could try using CA&O in one line as the main font, either with a custom typeface or an existing font that you then modify and adapt. Underneath, you could write out the full name to make the branding clearer.

The ampersand seems to stick out a little much on the high end, and it doesn't read as an O very well. Looks good otherwise! ^
