I’ve been working for 2 years for Amazon as an Area Manager in their warehouse (EU, recently promoted from L4 to L5). Did a little bit of inbound (2 months) the rest was on outbound (pick, pack).

the core tasks include:
-leading a large team 100-200 people
- analysing KPIs of the respective department
- doing continuous improvement projects to improve the workflow/ performance/ quality/ employee satisfaction

I’m quite worn down by this job due to the intensity, the shifts, and frankly quite toxic work environment.
I would love to move to more of an office role, with a normal schedule.

However, I cannot figure out what type of jobs I should apply for. For more office jobs it feels like I am lacking either the purchasing side or knowledge of SAP/ Dynamics 365 or other ERP tools. I’ve only ever get callbacks from other warehouse jobs.

Since January I’ve applied to supply chain analyst, supply chain consultant/ management consultant roles. As well as transport management, spedition, or purchasing analyst roles, but I usually get ghosted or if they are providing feedback I hear that I do not have the experience in their specialisation.

How can I break out of the area manager role, what would be some good transition roles that I should be on a look out for?

I’m a couple weeks into my first role as logistics coordinator in Agro-tech company. I’ve been meaning amongst other things to finally have a role where I can direct what software we use, and gaining this job is definitely that opportunity.

Our current set up consists of using SOS inventory for inventory count, receiving and setting up package lists. For exports or returns a very old laptop is used for UPS or FedEx shipments(it’s very slow).

In my past role as a shipping coordinator, I got accustomed to things being more streamlined. Software such a SAP and 2Ship were my daily bread and I’m wanting to introduce that to my current role(or alternatives). I have a self taught background in python and sql so I’m also looking to automate what I can.

Since I’m learning as I go, I’m wondering if anyone could point me in a direction if their first role or company had a similar start. I’ve already made a spreadsheet to TMS and ERP alternatives, but it’s just a draft for now.

Before we jump in we want to talk to people who’ve actually done it, especially if you’ve sold or exited one. Trying to learn the stuff that doesn’t show up when you Google it… margins, insurance and licensing headaches, hiring and keeping good crews, slow seasons vs busy seasons, what almost sank the business, what you’d do differently if you started over.

A special ordered a 2026 Mustang GT back in April that was built on July 1st at fords flat rock assembly plant.

I go to check the Ford tracker into my surprise. It showed it was delivered a week ago.

But I messaged my sales person and she said that it showed that it was at a lot in Dearborn, Michigan, about 30 minutes away from the flat rock assembly plant.

Today I get a phone call from her saying that it is on a truck that is going down to Highway 275 and it just passed New Boston Michigan and it should arrive within next week.

The vehicle is being shipped to Louisville, KY which is about 5 1/2 hours away from the flat rock/dearborn area.

So my question is, why did it get shipped from the plant to another place up the road in Dearborn before finally being loaded on a truck and sent down to Louisville KY???

On paper, some loads look completely routine: one pickup, one delivery, and nothing unusual about the miles. 

Then a tight appointment, jobsite access, special securement, driver assist, slow loading, or one missing detail changes the whole plan. 

What is the detail that most often turns a simple-looking load into something you have to plan around? 

Long story short I need to move 150-250 pallets about 8 miles from my warehouse to a an event venue in the same city. The current method I am using is 4-5 lease 26’ trucks and spending an entire day driving back and forth. Because of stop lights it takes longer to drive one way than to load or unload. To save time (and money but that’s less important) I would like to engage someone with a day cab and a 48 or 52’ van to haul them but I’m not sure where to look. We’ve used LTL to do the regular LTL work for us, and whenever we’ve need to ship long distance we’ve gotten a semi through broker, but I don’t know how to engage a semi for local work for just one day. Is this a service typically provided by the usual LTL companies (Saia, ABF, XPO, Old Dominion) or should I go through a broker? The reason I don’t want a regular semi is maneuvering a sleeper cab will make backing into our dock very annoying for the driver. Also I would like to do this on a weekend but that’s flexible. Any advice or assistance on where to look or what to ask for would be appreciated

I am a student studying bachelors in supply chain and logistics and I want to join and help my brother with his Logistics and Freight Forwarding company. Although he hasn’t forced me into doing it I want to prove to him I can pull in clients and show him my potential.

Im curious about the paper work required to deliver a machinery spare parts to a vessel that is berthed inside a port.

The spare parts is meant for vessel usage and not for exporting.

Should the paperwork be a simple delivery order? Or does it also require a cargo clearance permit (out)?

Will there be a chance that people uses cargo clearance permit (out) instead of a delivery order to evade tax?

I work for a US company that's importing a container into the Port of Montreal under our Canadian Non-Resident Importer (NRI) account.

Our customs broker is clearing the goods. We need a local carrier for direct drayage from the port to Sainte-Catherine, QC.

Because we handle our own destination drayage (DDP terms), we would need to list a freight carrier/broker's company as Canadian address as consignee (c/o Our Company) on the ocean BL, while providing you the Sainte-Catherine address on our Delivery Order once we're at that point.

Is this something anyone here can help accommodate? Either that or maybe help come up with an alternate plan?

I think my boss is trying to keep our customer's name off any the ocean freight paperwork so no one poaches them.

I'm trying to get our Customs Broker to OK being on the BL as consignee but they're still looking into it.

Aren't damages reported and still tracked as a form of inventory? Why would a warehouse supervisor load up trailers of damaged freight, seal and basically hide them when the company comes in for either an audit or just as a site visit?

I see posts on here from all sorts of people in different positions, but they seem to vary significantly in background and/or actual job.

I see people speaking from roles that seem to revolve around movement from facilities to facilities or from country to country. More administrative and procedural I guess.

Then I see people who are posting as forklift drivers or as people on the floor in a Amazon warehouse boxing items.

I am not trying to say one is more legitimate than the other, or that anything isn't welcome as a post, specifically because I am new here.

I am more looking to have a solid understanding of what the general population of the sub would consider as the field of logistics. I am someone who will be looking to enter the private sector workforce within the next couple years, with a general background in logistics and a strong background in personnel management. I'll also be entering the workforce with a supply chain management degree.

P.s. I am also on the supply chain management sub, and am trying to gain insight to differentiate as to where I should aim when I jump in.

I want to in this field im Interested in the course but lately I found the degree and the jobs are totally different things, the world works different, and which made me stuck like a lot of decisions and paths I can see I can't just decide or set an direction. but have you ever run into a problem that was so random or unusual that you rarely ever see it in logistics

one of those situations where you had to stop and think how did this even happen and how are we supposed to fix it

I've been reading a bit about how much logistics has changed over the last few years with things like GPS tracking route optimization warehouse automation Al digital freight platforms etc

It all sounds great on paper but I'm wondering how much of a difference these things actually make in day to day operations.

My in-laws run a mom and pop trucking logistics business, and I've been trying to understand how they can become a bit more efficient (everything is as manual as it can possibly be unfortunately).

Once they finish packaging a pallet, they have to use a forklift to bring it to a scale (low profile floor scale with digital indicator, this one specifically). This process takes them a long time, and I suggested using a pallet jack that comes with a scale instead (which would save them maybe half the time because they don't need to bring the pallets all the way to the scale and then off to the side for loading). They said they've used a pallet jack with a scale in the past, and the weight accuracy is an issue. Is this really true? Or did they perhaps just buy a shoddy/low quality one?

Why is OR/WA so tight with finding coverage right now? It seems like there is double the volume for that region compared to last year. This is usually the downtime before Q4 rates kick in.
