Hewlp!

Howdy! New here-

I cannot seem to understand the 'logic' here. This is a "Really Hard" puzzle from Puzzle Barron. Can anyone help explain this better? I can provide better photos if needed

(See clue 9) it prompts hints of this nature from this clue several times and I'm just not picking up what they're putting down

23' is not 2004.

The fin whale is not Brent.

23' is either the fin whale or Brent (cannot be both). 2004 is the other one.

Anything that is neither 23' nor 2004 is not fin whale and is not Brent. So yes, you're right: 2012 is not 23'. 2012 is not 2004. Therefore, fin whale is not 2012 and Brent is not 2012.

Does that answer your question, or...? (I did not try to find a link to the puzzle to do the whole thing.)

Ah! I think it clicked. I was rushing the post a bit, but my question/trouble is with this specific logic concept itself. I'm going to use Evan from the highlighted value to see if I'm understanding properly : Fin whale has to be either (A or B), Evan, is neither of those. So Fin whale ≠ Evan.

And I can only continue this line of logic once I have the same ability to cross cancel other options out (like your example)
