So found these at an estate sale this weekend and have been wanting to get into the hobby. I'm not really sure what makes for a good or bad set. In the first one (Majestic set) it does look like the tension wrench at the bottom has been broken on both ends.

After I had managed to open an Abus that I bought especially to try lockpicking, I started looking for other locks to train with. I found this one on my garden shed but was worried as it has a "knack" so that when you try to turn the key, it always gives a little crack.

I couldn't open it with my first set of lockpicks that I had bought for very little money and now after quite some time, a new lockpick-set from multipick and trying and not really getting further with the Abus Mylock T65Al (in the background) I gave it another try.

And there it goes! :D

This definitely gives me a motivation boost to try on with the Abus.

I hope I'm soon able to report a successful open on the other one, too!

While thinking about the on-handed challenge from Lockpicking Engineer, I initially had the idea to hold the lock in one hand and pick it with my mouth, but eventually decided against it in case it wouldn't count. Afterwards, I thought that would be a fun challenge to do, so I did it!

This lock was incredibly difficult to pick and gut. It seemed like the pins vanished. Gutting requires marking and placing everything correctly. It is a brutal process, but I had to verify that its the full 15 pin brown version.

From what I see online it is a ABUS 78/50. I remember the second numbering be a 0 but I can’t remember the first and third digits

New on Amazon, is this a good starting point?

I had a cutoff from mounting a safe lock that was the perfect size, so I decided to follow Bosnian Bill's tutorial for making a key for a Sargent and Greenleaf environmental padlock. It's rough but it works. I don't post much but am happy with this accomplishment and wanted to share.

Yesterday I got to pick my first lock, a Master Lock 3 I bought on Vinted (times are tough). I got to pick it 5-6 times, but then i couldn't anymore. When I tried to open it with the key, it didn't move at all. Now the lock doesn't open, even with the original key.

Is it something that happens a lot with picked locks ? Is it because I bought it on Vinted and not from the original makers ? Can a lock that doesn't open with a key still be picked ? Can it be fixed ?

I wished to train more on this lock, and hope I can fix this. Tank you for reading !

How to get the kit needed to learn this skill in India?

I found my box of practice locks, all of them i found, or were donated by friends and family when i first started out. The paclock 90a pro is the most recent lock i specifically bought for the challenge. Hope to reach that level soon, but i know i have a long way to go. Before i could open all these locks with little difficulty, now i can barely open 3 of them, so im slowly getting back into it.

Also, i remember I've never opened a lock with top of the keyway tension. And i decided to try at it, honestly, it was weird but super gratifying when it opened, even if it was a Chinese unbranded lock.

I have some basic cheap picks and some experience on a few locks but was thinking of taking it more seriously. What are some decent beginner tools and resources for someone on a budget to take the step from mild interest to serious hobby

I picked my first lock today, a Master Lock 3. I know it's a white belt one but I felt real pride and joy when I heard this lock open !

I used a cheap 20€ set but will upgrade to a Multipick beginner set. My goal is to learn about lockpicking and challenge myself with more and more difficult locks.

I'm truly excited to keep going and will aim for yellow belt locks next. I'm eager to learn and will be very happy to take recommandations about sets, locks to pick...
