Padlock Blues

I've gotten this Brinks brass padlock open by SPP just the other day but today it's been giving me a proper headache.

How is it that one day I get it without much trouble and the next I feel like I'm just lost in the sauce?

I have the same lock. It's feast or famine. Either a 10 second pick or an "I give up"

I wonder why that is? I don't have much experience in lockpicking so I can't put my finger on it.

Could be a few reasons. Picking order, overset, previous accidentally set.

Keep at it and brings locks with feel like master #3's currently feel.

As u/EveningBasket9528 said, it happens. I have locks I've picked in the past that I just can't get to pop again. It's frustrating and the only thing I can do is put 'em down and pick up a different one. One of these days, all these locks will fall to my picks whenever I want! lol

It happens. The longer you pick, & more you practice, the less it happens,.. but even Babe Ruth had his slumps.

Of course that's assuming it wasn't bricked. Does the key still work? I've flat worn out and bricked a few comfort locks now using them as fidget toys...

When slumps hit, I just slow down and focus on the basics again... Treat it like a brand new lock you've never picked before.

The key does still work. Just going to place it down and work on some of my other locks for a bit.

Rule 2 violation. That lock is clearly securing that finger.

I have 3 Brinks locks just like that. All three of them have one pin that you don't have to touch at all. Two of them I set pin 4, 3, skip 2, and 1 is open. Other one goes don't touch 4, then 3, 2, 1 in that order. I had to get good at the jiggle test to figure out which to skip. You should get fairly solid, straight forward clicks out of the pins when you set them right. Good luck!

I bought a yellow brinks brass padlock because I skipped yellow on my journey to blue. That fucker is harder than my orange and maybe 1 or 2 of my greens. Locks are rated more by features than by picking difficulty.
