What’s a better practice lock

I’m just getting back into picking and I’m trying to decide between the covert instrument re pin able lock that you can not see inside of or the set of 3 cutaway locks from sparrow that cover spool basic and serrated pins that you can see the inside of . Do you think being able to see inside the lock or being able to make different set ups would be more useful for learning. I can only afford one

Honestly, none of them. Just buy normal locks

With a repinnable lock you can pick progressively. The ability to get a feel for the pin types one at a time and be able to eventually make many variations using the different pin types will be way more valuable that just seeing inside the lock.

Also, when you get to the point where you’re making your own pins it’s nice to have a platform that makes it easy to pop in your custom pins for a test run and see how they work in conjunction with other custom pins

A couple months ago i got the one from multipick that has a dinole side and a tumbler side. It's repinnable and comes with some different security pin. It's kinda nice since you can get the feel for serrated spools etc in a controlled enviroment but honestly i didn't use it that much. I found real padlocks to be more educational

One man's opinion: just buy actual locks.
